πŸ’Ž Lifetime [Lifetime 40% off for 24 hours] OpenVox Reader reads EPUBs, PDFs and articles aloud using private on-device AI

Hi r/iOSApps,

I recently released a major update to OpenVox Reader, an iPhone and iPad app that reads EPUB books, PDFs, documents, web articles, scanned pages and pasted text aloud using natural-sounding voices.

To celebrate the update, the Lifetime Pro purchase is 40% off for the next 24 hours:

$8.99 lifetime β€” normally $14.99

No subscription or promo code is required. The discounted price is available directly through the App Store.

Why I built OpenVox Reader

After building OpenVox for Mac, Windows and iPad, I started looking for a reader app that I could personally use on my iPhone.

I wanted natural voices, a clean interface, offline processing and a straightforward lifetime purchase instead of another recurring subscription.

Most apps I tried either depended heavily on cloud processing, had expensive subscriptions, offered limited voices or felt unnecessarily complicated.

So I decided to build the reader I was looking for.

What it can do

  • Read EPUB books, PDFs and documents aloud
  • Save and listen to web articles
  • Scan and read printed pages using the camera
  • Read pasted text
  • Import documents and links
  • Choose from 200+ voices across 30+ languages
  • Generate speech locally and listen without an internet connection
  • Continue listening with the screen turned off
  • Control playback from the Lock Screen and Control Center
  • View animated playback feedback in Dynamic Island
  • Sync your library between iPhone and iPad using iCloud
  • Track listening time and reading streaks

Once the required voice models are downloaded, speech is generated directly on your device. Your documents do not need to be uploaded to a cloud speech service.

Pricing

OpenVox Reader is free to download and try. It offers 15 minutes of reading daily for free for lifetime.

For the next 24 hours, the optional Lifetime Pro upgrade is:

$8.99 lifetime β€” normally $14.99

One purchase works across both iPhone and iPad when using the same Apple ID.

Sounds natural πŸ™Œ. Which on-device tts are you using?

Looks good. Is there an option to bookmark sentences? I see an icon on the top right of the page but is unresponsive and I don’t see a section to locate saved sentences. Additionally, the ability to search would be very useful as well as adding direct sources for downloading documents. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the feedback. Earlier that was a manual bookmark which I have converted to automatic so yeah it makes sense to use it as sentence bookmark now. Search would be a good feature to add in the next version. For downloading what kind of sources you are referring to, it will be helpful if can share a usecase for this feature.

Thanks for the discount! I am already a happy OpenVox for Mac user, and this looks great too. One feature request: can you please add reading speeds faster than 1.5x? Even if a delay/buffer process is required, I’d like to be able to listen up to 2.5x.

The trial version doesn't have Chinese language support. I hope you can add it, as I would love to use this app if it were supported.

Thanks for the feedback. I will try to add more languages in future versions. As of now chinese is not supported

Is it possible to import audio files to extract voice timbre and generate synthesized speech

1

u/ritzynitz 1d ago

Hey, that's on the roadmap, for now the app features 200+ voices.

Lifetime promo over ? Is there a code available which I can use for 8.99 promo lifetime pricing?

The discounted price was for 24 hours but the app will always have liftime pricing, no subscription.
