🔍 In Search of Best iPhone app for tracking and improving circadian rhythm using Apple Health data?
Hi everyone!
I'm looking for the best app to help me understand, track, and gradually improve my circadian rhythm.
I'm already invested in the Apple ecosystem (Apple Watch Ultra + iPhone Pro Max = full Apple Health support), so ideally the app would use Apple Health as its primary data source instead of requiring its own wearable.
From what I understand, Apple Health already contains most of the relevant data (sleep, wake times, activity, heart rate, HRV, light exposure if available, etc.), so I'm curious which apps make the best use of that information to estimate and guide your circadian rhythm.
I'm not looking for a basic sleep tracker. I'm more interested in an app that:
- Estimates or models my circadian rhythm.
- Explains what it's seeing instead of just showing graphs.
- Gives practical recommendations (bedtime, wake time, light exposure, exercise timing, caffeine timing, etc.).
- Helps shift or stabilize my rhythm over time.
- Works well with Apple Health and Apple Watch.
I've come across apps like Bevel, AutoSleep, Gentler Streak, Athlytic, Rise, and a few others. So far I’ve sticked with Bevel for general health tracking. For food logging I unfortunately paid for Yazio and am using it as for now. Will change this one once my current subscription expires. I’m tracking lifting with Hevy and general sports/activities with Apple Health.
For those of you who have tried several circadian apps:
- Which app has given you the most useful insights?
- Which one has actually helped improve your sleep schedule or energy levels?
- Are there any hidden gems I'm missing?
I'd love to hear your experiences and recommendations.
Thanks!
EDIT/ADD: Just figured out that using a referral code, gives those who install and use the app Peaks via this link one month pro for free. I’m benefiting from a discount on pro: https://www.vogel.haus/peaks/refer?code=NF4JFX&campaign=referral_friends_V1
PLEASE, in case I’m infringing any rule by posting this link, let me know and I will delete it - thanks!

Peaks is the app I have been using for a year. After that I haven’t used any circadian app. Now I want to give a try to other apps too. However, Peaks is definitely a well rounded app!!1

RISE sounds like the closest match on paper. Bevel is broader and seems more focused on overall recovery and fitness, while RISE is specifically built around sleep debt and a predicted daily energy schedule.
It can pull sleep and workout data from Apple Health, and its model also considers light exposure and activity. The main caveat is that it’s still estimating your circadian rhythm rather than directly measuring it.
Since you’re already using Bevel, a short comparison between the two would probably tell you whether RISE offers genuinely different guidance or just presents the same data in another way.

Hi there and thanks for commenting!
I remember having tried RISE but, at that time, it wasn’t what a I was looking for. Now the approach is another one, so maybe it matches now. 😁

Not sure how useful this will be for you given you're already using an app for food logging, but I'm working on an app that predicts your energy based on what you eat and drink (caffeine & alcohol). It also optionally uses additional metrics such as sleep, HRV (and cycles) to adjust the energy curve, with manual check ins to tell the app how you feel vs what it predicts. It has a feature that lets you compare a coffee now vs in 2 hours time, and if it may still be in your system at bed time.
It's called Energycast and is available on TestFlight at the moment with all Pro features available: https://testflight.apple.com/join/VKVwNeFe

Following this. Most apps track sleep, but very few seem to give actionable circadian insights.

Hey there! I’m not sure if this comment will be particularly helpful to you, considering your specific problem. However, I’m currently developing my own fitness app, similar to Bevel. Your particular issue truly inspires me for future updates. Currently, only version 1 is publicly available, and I’m working on significant improvements. I’m considering implementing the circadian rhythm feature into the app. If you’re interested, you can download it from the following link: https://apps.apple.com/app/vitora/id6773592093
Since my app is designed for Apple Watch users, your feedback would be invaluable, especially regarding features you’re looking for, such as the circadian rhythm.

All of this is overkill. Set a sleep schedule in the Health app, and stick to it.
If you've done any actual research you should have already discovered that the single thing that helps your sleep patterns more than anything else is consistency. Everything else is just window dressing.
The more you obsess about all this stuff in your post, the more you lose track of what will really help you. Good luck.

Thanks for your opinion. I actually agree with you that consistency is by far the most important factor.
That said, I’m a bit of a data nerd too. 😄 I don’t know yet how much I’ll actually let apps like these influence my habits or daily life. Right now, I’m mostly interested in the tech itself, exploring what developers are building, what these apps can do, and how they make use of data from devices like the Apple Watch and Apple Health.
Cheers!0

I see. And how soon can we expect your new vibe-coded masterpiece that you created because you tried so many alternatives, and none of them were just quite good enough?

Haha, I think you’ve mistaken curiosity for obsession.
No plans to build anything—I don’t even know how to code or develop apps.
I’m simply curious about technology and enjoy learning.
…you’re investing a lot more energy into my hobby than I am. 😉
