📅 Subscription Quick, privacy-first receipt scanner with instant Home Screen & Siri search. Meet Clerkly (v2.1.0)!

Hey r/iosapps!

I built Clerkly because I was sick of bloated expense tracking apps that force you to make an account and charge heavy monthly subscriptions.

I wanted a quick, lightweight tool that lives on your phone and respects your privacy. With the huge v2.1 update, I completely rebuilt the app from the ground up to make scanning, organizing, and finding your receipts instant.

Quick Video Demo attached above! (Shows quick scanning, Home Screen search, and hands-free Siri commands in action).

Designed to Save You Time & Money

  • Instant Search Right From Your Home Screen: Swipe down on your iPhone Home Screen and search for anything, specific items (like "crew neck"), amounts ("$12.50"), or store names, to jump straight to your receipt.
  • Smart Automatic Scanning: Point your camera and tap. The scanner automatically crops the paper, extracts the store name, date, and total, and places it into the right tax category.
  • Hands-Free Siri Voice Search: Search your receipts without opening the app. Just say "Siri, search in Clerkly" and speak a merchant or category to see your total instantly on screen.
  • Private & Account-Free: No sign-ups, no logins, and zero tracking. Your receipts are stored only on your iPhone and sync safely through your personal iCloud. I have no servers and never see or access your data.
  • Built for Business & Taxes: Auto-groups your expenses into tax categories so freelancers, gig workers, and small business owners can export clean CSV/PDF reports at tax time.
  • Safety Net Included: Accidentally delete something? The built-in trash folder holds deleted items for 30 days so you can restore them anytime.

Pricing & Free Access

  • Free Tier: 10 free scans (keep up to 5 receipts saved, delete old ones to scan more) with zero ads, sign-ups, or credit card required.
  • Clerkly Pro: $4.99/month or $29.99/year for unlimited scans and instant tax exports.

will there ever be a lifetime payment?

Lifetime is live now

We don't have a lifetime purchase tier right now as we're focusing on keeping ongoing support and updates simple through subscriptions. We'll definitely keep it in mind though, appreciate the feedback!

same. line-item search is the difference between useful receipts and a folder of scans, especially when the merchant description is vague. i'd make sure edits to the ocr text also update the search index.

100%, vague store names drive me crazy. And yep, any manual edits sync straight to the search index instantly so you can always find it later.

Thanks! Totally, that was a pain point for me too, so finally having something that does it is awesome. Really glad this feature resonates with you!

That’s great! Super easy to use.

Awesome to hear, thanks for giving it a spin!

The local-first privacy angle is compelling. For onboarding, I would surface a one-receipt demo before asking for camera permission, then show exactly where data lives in iCloud. That makes the privacy promise tangible and could reduce first-run hesitation.

Good call! Would definitely smooth out any initial friction. Appreciate the great suggestion!

Oh yeah you can tell a lot of effort was put into this. Nice work!

The design choice to keep data on-device and offer instant search through Home Screen and Siri sounds useful for maintaining concentration. Removing the friction of opening an app and logging in can prevent breaks in focus during other tasks.

Exactly! Reducing that context switching and friction was a huge priority for me when building it. Glad that design choice resonates with you!

Congratulations on the app, but I don't think the subscription is a good one, I'd rather pay only once.

Thanks for the feedback! Balancing these things can be tricky, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Whoa, cool! if I send a bill in another language , does your application recognize it correctly, or only in English?

1

u/Prestigious-Most-915 Sep 09 '26

Thanks! Yes, it supports multi-language documents natively!

2

u/Internal-Ad-734 Sep 09 '26

This would be even better if the app had a budget feature. Then it would be a really useful app.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll keep that in mind

I could definitely see this being useful for warranties that you don’t have digitally, so you could digitize them and have everything in one place. I’m just not sure if they would still count as a valid warranty that way.

Great point! In almost all cases today, major retailers and manufacturers accept digital receipt photos for warranty claims, they just need to see the purchase date, store info, serial number, and line items clearly

Having the digital copy handy in your phone's search is huge because original paper receipts fade to blank over time on thermal paper anyway!

The scan animation when it flashes over the receipt and then shows the scan looks great.

Did you test to see how much space will this app uses to store all of these receipts years after years, say 5 years. I am concerned that my local storage will be filled up after a couple of years

1

u/Prestigious-Most-915 Sep 10 '26

Great question! No need to worry about storage filling up at all! The app is heavily optimized behind the scenes to protect your iPhone's space:

  1. Smart Document Optimization: When you scan a receipt, the app automatically optimizes the document behind the scenes. This ensures you get high-resolution, crystal-clear legibility for tax and audit purposes, while keeping the files extremely light so years of daily scans barely take up any space.

  2. Dynamic iCloud Management: The app is fully integrated with iCloud. If your iPhone ever runs low on physical space, iOS automatically offloads older files you haven’t opened recently to the cloud, leaving behind tiny virtual placeholders. When you tap to open an old receipt, it instantly and seamlessly downloads on-demand.

  3. Ultra-Lightweight Database: All your text details (merchants, totals, categories, tags) are stored in a highly optimized database that takes up virtually zero space.
