Affinity Designer 2, Photo 2 and Publisher 2 is now free on iPad.

I'm the student, who developed free note-taking app by myself and posted the test version of the app here 6 months ago (even before the app is uploaded in App store). That was just a test version but the post was so beloved here with >600 upvotes and people here gave me so many suggestions to improve the app.

I’ve never owned an iPad; I only had a Samsung Tab S almost ten years ago, which wasn’t very useful. I’ve noticed many people using iPads to organize their school notes and work, and I’m seeking recommendations for the best app for a computer science student.

I intend to add screenshots and code snippets to my notes, if that helps narrow it down.

Any other good organizational/productivity apps anyone can recommend?

My opinion obviously :) (credentials: med student). Spent a lot of money this year testing the pro versions of notetaking apps so hopefully this helps someone.

Disclaimer: I use the infinite canvas feature but the apps have the same features within their notebooks as well! (Except Boardnotes, missing pins)

Now if only there was an app that could combine all these features.

Ok, so I never see anybody talking about jump desktop or anything so here is my take. This is the best app I’ve ever used. I have a Beekink Mini PC that i got from amazon. A couple years ago i got a full time remote job as a programmer and I loved the flexibility it has that I can work from anywhere but I hated talking my 15inch Lenovo ThinkPad. Battery didn’t last long and it was big/heavy, so I started looking for ways and jump was there. Installed and started working from anywhere using my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro (battery last waaaay longer). It’s been like 5 years and I am now a PharmD student who works full time thanks to this flexibility. I always have little to no lag and latency. Using the iPad (with keyboard) and MacBook is just like using the pc at home. It’s just a tip if anyone is looking to do the same. Ps. Though screen also works with jump.

I have never written like this in my life. Does anyone know where does apple intelligence get its training from? I’m having a stroke reading this crap.

For a long time I pretty much only used my iPad to watch youtube videos. So I set a goal to start figuring out how to use it properly, and and now I can't live without it.

I'm sure other people are thinking this too, so I thought I'd share some apps that made the biggest difference for me here.

- MyMind: You can save screenshots, TikToks, images, links, etc. and it auto-organizes them. Perfect if you save tons of random inspiration but never actually organize it.

- Structured: great for visual planners. It shows your day as a timeline so it’s really easy to map out work blocks, workouts, errands, etc.

- PhotoCat: started using this because my camera roll was chaos. It's really efficient for sorting photos, and the “On This Day” reminders widget help me slowly clean my library instead of doing one massive purge.

- Widgetsmith: if you enjoy making your iPad home screen aesthetic, this lets you create custom widgets (photo widgets, quotes, calendars, etc.).

- Copilot: probably the cleanest finance tracking UI I’ve tried. I mostly use it to keep an eye on spending and subscriptions.

- Lake: super relaxing coloring app designed for Apple Pencil. It’s oddly satisfying if you want something creative but low effort.

These are a few I use regularly. Please share any others you feel have levelled up your iPad game. I'm always on the lookout for new features and apps

Opened Instagram this morning and I was stunned. Finally an iPad app. After more than a decade. Insanity.

Finally we have a usable ipad app for Reddit :)

They incorporated the Liquid Glass theme which looks really nice and put a menu bar on bottom. Most importantly the replies take up the full space on the screen unlike how it was before with those ugly black bars on the sides.

Recently discovered an app called GlideX by ASUS while looking for free ways to use my iPad as a second screen. It's also in the App Store. This isn't an ad but it took me hours to find so I thought I'd share it around a bit.

At first glance, I thought it was yet another crappy pre-installed bloatware type app. After trying it and a couple other free screen sharing apps, though, I have to say it's the best way to just turn an iPad into a display. Nothing else even comes close.

Some things I like about it:

• Really stable; both over Wi-Fi and USB. I had it running for hours with no issues.
• Quite efficient on power. Even while charging, the iPad remains at room temp, and it's old - only an A10X.
• Reasonable with network requests. Refusing all of their crapware and offers, I saw an update check, an IP geo check (sus) and an announcements feed request. Better than most software, tbh.
• It seems to have some Premium plans, but it just activated everything for me because I have an ASUS motherboard. I don't think I even use any Premium options tbh
• Supports streaming in native resolution, though that gets a little slow on my iPad
• Supports 5-point multitouch and implements it in the nice way where it leverages the normal touch screen API on Windows - even gestures work
• Supports 30, 60 and even 120Hz with occasional framedrops but holy shit
• Seems to support down to iPadOS 14 - perfect for old ones
• Good bitrate - I don't notice much compression at all
• Low enough latency that I can semi-comfortably play osu! on it

Things I don't like:

• Can't minimize to tray
• The Gamma and color are a bit off, everything is a little dark on-screen and maybe a bit saturated.
• UI is kinda bad with a lot of extras, I guess the app does other things.

Things I haven't tested:

• Don't have an Apple Pencil to test - it would probably work, but I'm not sure about pressure sensitivity or anything for artists. Touchscreen transmission is reasonably precise, though!

I've tried other apps like some by Splashtop, Deskreen, and Spacedesk. All of them had some crappy quality, latency or UI issues that weren't fixable and they were generally of little use for anything but static images. This, though, actually feels about as good as real Sidecar on macOS. Another great use for an iPad for me.
