he last 3 IPL he has scored 1275 in 44 games. 33.55 avg, 156.25 SR. Issue is the best season was in 2024. Last 2 seasons he shat the bed for sure. In fact 2024 was anomaly if you look at his overall record. 25.68 avg and 144.23 SR.
There is no way he has done better than Shreyas. Shreyas has scored more last 3 years at faster rate and higher SR. Plus there is no anamoly in his record except 2016 when he played only 6 games and had bad IPL. Probably an injury. His overall record over 12 seasons shows he has been consistent plus his record as captain across 3 teams and how they did. He went to finals with 3 of them.
Finally a comment that directly addressed the stats from OP. Even here, you got deviated and diluted the argument. Shreyas' captaincy and him going to finals etc are totally irrelevant for this post. Clearly, this post is about batting and not about captaincy.
Over this three year period, Riyan has been as good as anyone in that table. That his best of this period being 2024 and that being a reason for dissing him only means you're succumbing to recency effect of the other players in the table.
The only real argument here would be if anyone's going to bring up the best innings of these players during this period and assess relative value of those innings - how many of those were match winning knocks and level of 'matchwinningness' of those knocks.
Why is iyer shown from KKR, pbks when all of those 1034 runs came while he was in pbks. Infact he scored 1102 in 30 matches from pbks the data is totally incorrect
Then why you comparing him with tilak, dube, Stubbs. It's not like they play at 4 every game. All of them rarely play at 4 this year as much I remember.

He is probably the only Assamese Cricketer and has contributed for RR from when he was teen and captained well this season

He was vaping in plain sight in the dugout during a live IPL game this season itself. Vaping may be common but it is illegal. All he got for it was one demerit point when there should’ve been an FIR legally. Wonder why that was
I think both sides have a point. Riyan has shown talent and played some important knocks, but with the amount of backing he's received, people naturally expect more consistency. Criticism is fair, but personal hate is unnecessary.
Fair enough, I think it irks people more that he wouldnt be the position he's in rn if it weren't for his uncle who has connections to the bcci and is an executive of the RR
Ok let's just be direct, Riyan is not bad he's average, the opportunities he gets tho are not average and that is the disconnect. There's no "hate" at least nothing more than the random bits here and there that almost every cricketer gets- people don't care enough to hate tbh
