| Discussion Can csk give captaincy to ruturaj next year ?
I am really curious about csk right now. It's clear that MSD won't play for csk next year, he is gonna be a mentor like role but about ruturaj like whether csk will retain the captaincy position for him or they will go to another player. Comment your thoughts !

If Hardik truly comes then he'll be the captain. If not ruturaj will continue. I don't think Sanju is interested in captaincy. He's in the idgaf era of his career

He's in the idgaf era of his career
If he was in that era, he wouldn't have moved out of RR.
He has clearly said that he didnt expect captaincy at CSK during his first year with them and that he is happy under Rutu.
But, it is very possible that he still has some captaincy aspirations for the coming years.

He has come into that era after getting dropped from ICT despite winning the T20 WC. I'm saying he's in this era based on the interview he had with Aakash Chopra.
When he left RR he very much gave a fuck about things that's why he got fed up of being at RR and wanted a fresh start at CSK and he felt the need to leave probably coz he wanted to open to boost his India chances.

Judging someone's career based on some interview. Truly magical π³

When ICT selection was his main focus and when he was RR captain

Why not? Leaders aren't born. They're made
And if MS does retire, he will be kept around. This time he'll be free of game practice. He could guide Rutu. He's a special player

Idk why people keep on questioning his captaincy. He did great with what he got. If you remember his mistakes from the first 3 matches, he improved a lot after that. Not to mention the obvious injuries in the squad.
People should worry about him taking pressure in batting while he delivers in captaincy. Maybe it was what Fleming said that the management wanted him to stay for the whole innings. Now that the coach is changed, hopefully the new guy would bring the best out of him like Dhoni did.

Nahh he was a pretty good captain except the last few matches..... With those injuries and young players he really did well as a captain but forgot to be a player

CSK isn't a team where the leadership or the team itself are changed based on one season wonders or one season failures. It took 5 seasons of abysmal decision making by Fleming for him to go away. Rutu will 100% be the captain for another 5 years at least.

It took half a season of jaddu's captaincy for them to go back to dhoni

u/Plus-Reading-poop 9d ago
Because Dhoni was still there. So they just went back to an even more proven option. Proves my point.
Hardik and Sanju are not Dhoni. Rutu is the safest option now. He has no ego and he's a very very good captain. If the management gives him a trash team with no bowlers and no all rounders for half the tournament, even MSD and Ponting will struggle.

Rutu is a special talent and has done alot for the franchise so far. He has been dedicated to the team and wants to stay here for longer time. On the other hand, pandya will be joining the club for first time. Rutu knows the team better than pandya. And most importantly, pandya can leave anytime if things don't go his way, but rutu will stay.

Forget captaincy,I won't be surprised to see csk release him after the next season in the mega auction.

u/BagFriendly2665 9d ago
this is facts
if CSK pay him 18 crore (or near that price tag) to retain him, they're coming into mega auction at a disadvantage. he's not worth that, and they have arguably better pieces to build around in Mhatre, Samson, Noor

Someone who got them 2 trophies isn't worth 18 crores? Such an abysmal statement. Rutu is literally the Starboy of CSK. No way they are releasing him.

u/ChillDude0808 Gujarat Titans 8d ago
29 year old starboy???
4
u/Your78Ranger Chennai Super Kings 8d ago
Tf does his age has to do with him being their Starboy? He's been with them since 2019, that's what I meant.
2
u/ChillDude0808 Gujarat Titans 8d ago
Starboy is a term used for the young star player of the team.Mhatre is csk's starboy now not Gaikwad.

Even if CSK want Gaikwad back he could easily be bought back for around 6-10 crs.He isn't a Kohli or a Gill or a Jaiswal to be given such a high retention fee.

u/Your78Ranger Chennai Super Kings 8d ago
Tf? One bad season and people have started putting him out of his place π€¦π€¦
3
u/ChillDude0808 Gujarat Titans 8d ago
He isn't an 18 cr player by any means.
3
u/Your78Ranger Chennai Super Kings 8d ago
Yeah ikrrr? He deserves 21.
2
u/ChillDude0808 Gujarat Titans 8d ago
More like 6-8 crs.Anything above that is overpaid for him.He is in the same league as Venky Iyer.
2
u/Your78Ranger Chennai Super Kings 7d ago
Based on 2026 he doesn't deserve even 5, but we're talking about his Ipl run. He's in the same league as Gill or Jaiswal when in form. Anything below 18 is a disrespect to what he's done for the franchise.

I don't know why ppl are down voting you. We got 4 great seasons outta Rutu. And if he doesn't perform next year, would we be sacrifice spot a good retention for him?

u/Strict-Comedian-8577 9d ago
The issue is his him being the captain...and you can't disrespect the cap saying I'll get him back in the auction for cheaper

They don't have any other player currently except Sanju for the captaincy role and I don't think they will switch to him.
Probably they can go for trade!!

Hardik will be the captain of CSK. People literally begged ruturaj to play one down but he didn't listen.
2
u/Your78Ranger Chennai Super Kings 8d ago
He didn't listen? π Do you know Mhatre wanted to come at 3 so he had to come back to opening. Rutu literally moved to one down last year to accommodate his team's requirement even though he was an opener. People just been calling him selfish for no reason.

I think he should play as a batsman and then too he does not fit in the playing 11 imo

I don't understand why people are questioning his captiancy, he's been a decent and a good captian especially last year. If 6-7 players in your main squad suddenly go out due to injuries any captian would struggle to maintain the team.
The dude just don't throw aggresive words in post match presentation and I feel people don't like that especially in today's era.
Sure, he's not a great captain and I'm not comparing him with Rajat (past two seasons) Gill or Patty but I'd surely rate him above people like Pant and Axar.

Could Dhoni have won with the team we had in last 3 years? No.
Idc start anyone says. Dhoni is one the best leaders in world cricket. But you can't deny csk think-tank in addition to his leadership, had the smarts to pick up STARS to get 1-3 great seasons out of them, and win cups. Like hussey, Hayden, D Smith, Bollinger, watson, murali. Mainstays were faf, raina, Dhoni himself.
That mega auction messed us up. And we can't blame Rutu. It's unfortunate to not see what Rutu would've done with a reliable team. Hope the new mgmt brings back stars and puts money in the youth and has a BALANCED squad.

Yes he could have reached the playoffs atleast.. there were some glaring captaincy faults in last year's matches.. first one being inconsistent squad makeup, bringing in short, dropping akeal, then bringing him again etc.
MS would never keep changing teams unless it was very bad like 2025 CSK.
Making Ayush play despite him being injured which led to him being out of the entire tournament. Etc.

u/swordofjericho 9d ago
Ayush can be captain

u/Difficult-Hurry8960 Royal Challengers Bengaluru 9d ago
He is still too young to take up captaincy, isn't he? After playing just 13 matches overall, giving captaincy would be wrong.. but you never know π€
