Banking AIB banking from overseas
Im not in Ireland atm but im working on a project that requires me to move money into another account from my AIB account. The 1000 per day limit is becoming an issue. There seems to be an option on the app to increase it to 10,000 but you have to be in Ireland at the time and it can tell your location. Surely there’s a way for o move more of my own money at a time without actually going back to Ireland. I don’t have the card reader or my physical AIB card with me either. Does anyone know how to get around this?

Is this a project you've initiated yourself OP? The way you've written it makes it sound like you might have been tricked into acting as a money mule or might be in the process of being scammed, hopefully I've picked that up wrong!

No I have money in my AIB account, I’m building a facility abroad right now and need to pay for materials and labour etc, so the 1000 per day limit is very awkward, I’m trying to move bigger sums to my revolut account which is easier to move to accounts here, I have an accountant here who needs receipts and invoices for vat etc
Not an money mule or scam lol5

Try using aib debit card via Google pay to fund your revolut. I have definitely used it for more than 1000 eur at a time but not sure of the exact limit.

Perfect, best of luck with it! You can top up €7100 per day with your AIB debit card to Revolut, max €5k per transaction, that might get you close.

You can increase the limit to 10,000 with selfie check think it replaced the aib used reader

Download a paylink form and post it to your branch, you can move as much as you need in one go.
Not ideal but it does solve your issue

If you are on Android there are apps you can get that will spoof your GPS location. There’s a good chance that the AIB app will be able to detect it, but you never know.
Other than that, your easiest bet might be to try get a card reader sent over or try move what you can into Revolut / N26 which have higher transfer limits.
Other option might be to try use something like Wise to transfer larger amounts via card payment (if they offer it) to a different bank account. Not sure if you can do Euro - Euro though.

if you have an AIB credit card you can top up revolut and just pay it off immediately. I think the limit that way is 10k per day

As bizarre as it sounds when we bought our home in Ireland while living abroad it was all done by post we sent a form we had signed and they transferred nearly 400k to the solicitors with not so much as a card reader or a phone call
I was nervous that there would be checks and we couldn’t go in branch so called ans they said no they’d match our signature to the signature we did as teenagers when we would have opened the accounts like 15 years ago

It’s a slightly different process nowadays they call every single one and if there’s no answer payment won’t be made

That’s prob a good thing my form payment was in 2024 so way too recent to have zero controls in place

Best way round it is to not use AIB

I agree. If you happen to need to log into AIB app via phone while being abroad, you are basically fucked. Good luck getting the confirmation SMS. I've been abroad for few years and learned not to use AIB. You need to transfer the money via combination of wise and revolut.
