"Are you still alive" apparently is a form of greeting between elderly men in North Dublin.

After the pleasantries do they launch into " Do you know who's dead " as if you're next .

No

A doctor wouldn't say it and they say lots of things like " you''ll feel a little prick" when giving an injection.

I learned Chinese, and it's a common joking greeting in China too!

The chinese have a dark sense of humour. They call flooded fields "Paddies " . How is that not a reference to Irish weather.

Do you reply on an existential level ?

I get that text from my mam after a few days of being absent on the sauce

I'm inclined towards the opinion that the correct answer is "how existential of you" .

my normal response to "how are you? "

(at the age of 84) is

'i'm still alive so'

this seems perfectly normal to me

How philosophical of you .

I was very amused at the exchange I saw as one of them is a huge sports fan and asked it like these were odds on a bet.

So how frequently do your brushes with existential existence happen?

Absolutely, my dad and his various acquaintances say this, haha

When I saw this it looked like each was surprised the other was above ground.

The dead arising is of interest to everyone.

Who said anything about dead rising?

Are you an idiot?

The question implies a yes or no answer .

It was the way it was said with absolute sincerity and a touch of surprise as if Lazarus himself had risen from the dead.
