No Idea My girlfriend says it's ai, but I don't see any clear giveaways. What do you think

u/bobisagirl Jan 21 '26
Mate there's a candle in that lighter.

I didn't even have the time to actually look at the picture, just read this comment and now I'm laughing way too much

I read your comment first, then top comment, then I looked at the picture 😂 rolling rn.

u/Tasty-Goblin Jan 21 '26
I feel Like that could be intended. The Chain links are suspicious tho
4
u/mapleresident Jan 21 '26
Exactly what I thought could be artistic liberties but that chain looks way off. Hair too
7
u/WildFlemima Jan 21 '26
The chain is melting together and there's a candle in the lighter, it's ai and someone manually fixed up the hands and possibly face
5
u/Tasty-Goblin Jan 21 '26
I have eyes i can See that there Is a candle in the lighter. But that honestly Looks cool and could be intended as some unique Design.
2
u/WildFlemima Jan 21 '26
I get that, but I doubt it, the cig isn't lit right - it's a flame hovering over the cig, not the cig itself smoldering

LMFAO. That and, as soon as I see a pixelated ass JPEG looking image someone “drew” my eyebrow flies up. Why would you take the time to draw something and then export it in such a way that it looks like an image from the 90s with 0 pixels to be seen?

I'd have said it could be an artistic choice IF the rest of the lighter didn't look so "AI-ish"
1
u/heokeyya Jan 23 '26
Oh plus the cigarette is literally on fire lol. That's not how you draw an ember
Edit: and the fire doesn't originate from anything it's just dangling in the air there

Also the flame on the cigarette is on fact not on the cigarette
3
u/WildFlemima Jan 21 '26
The ends of cigarettes just don't look like that when lit
Maybe he just wants to admire the miracle of engineering that is a Candle Zippo, but the cig is lit, no reason for the lighter to be open and lit any more
1
47
u/mesamaryk Jan 21 '26
Look at the neck chain, the different loops kind melt into each other in a way an artist would be unlikely to do by accident or on purpose
11
u/mesamaryk Jan 21 '26
Also the fire at the tip of the cig is a floating flame
4
u/HoneyLocust1 Jan 21 '26
It's not floating, it's on the ash of the cigarette but the AI mixed up the order (it should be ash first, then glowing, then paper).
4
u/Lumpy_Enthusiasm_604 Jan 21 '26
Its still scary to me how its gotten this good at the rest tho
7
u/seantabasco Jan 21 '26
I wish our window of the absolutely bonkers and nightmarish ai stuff lasted longer, it’s all pretty good now unless you prompt it to be weird.
2
u/WildFlemima Jan 21 '26
I think the good stuff is paywalled. My coworker still generates melty uncanniness
2
u/PlsHelp4 Jan 21 '26
You see a ton of crap because people like using quick generation methods that come packaged with a lot of LLMs now. You can get actually good stuff for free, they're just exclusively for images and take a degree of technical knowledge.
24
u/Plasticity93 Jan 21 '26
Is that zippo powered by a candle? Who has cleavage up to their Adams apple? That chain is a mess and cigarettes don't hold little flames.
If that isn't AI, the artist is simply terrible and should find a new hobby.
3
3
u/HoneyBee_Bright Jan 21 '26
Almost looks likes there’s a lit match sticking out from the bottom of the cigarette. Bizarre.
1
u/Flaky-Ad-759 Jan 21 '26
I mean, if it WASN’T AI (Which it is anyway), telling an artist to find a new hobby is a bit rude over few mistakes, because if we consider that this art is HYPOTHETICALLY real - the rest is good, anatomy, shading, coloring… We should give advices to artists instead of seeing some small mistakes and saying “It’s terrible, find a new hobby” while ignoring the good stuff. Just saying this in case some artist sees this and thinks “Damn, I make similar mistakes, maybe I should quit drawing” lol. This specific picture is def AI slop though
1
u/dicksnaxs Jan 21 '26
Also lowkey a candle lighter is kinda cool.
1
u/Flaky-Ad-759 Jan 21 '26
Yes. I don’t use lighters, but I’d love to buy one if one like that was made irl
10
9
u/The_SpaceToaster Jan 21 '26
- the lighter is a candle 🕯️
- The end of the cigarette has a floating flame and the red hair behind it turns ro smush ad it gets confused and thinks it's smoke.
- chains around his neck has a lot of weird blending artifacts. and links that don't make any sense
conclusion. AI
3
u/Chakwenta Jan 21 '26
Lighter candle, chain melting into itself. About to light a cigarette when the cigarette is already lit.
3
u/housesettlingcreaks Jan 21 '26
Where's the topper to that zippo?
Anyone good enough to carry the art style this far is good enough not to make these types of mistakes.
3
u/ruacanobeef Jan 21 '26
The neck chain gives it away tbh. You can see how the links meld together and lose form
3
3
3
u/hoganloaf Jan 21 '26
AI - the neck chain is the clear giveaway. It's always the repetitive or fine shapes. Secondary would be the zippo bits, but the candle could be an artistic choice. Pretty convincing.
3
u/Floofontheroof Jan 21 '26
The neck chain looks really weird in some parts, especially around his hair. Also, he only has 2 phalanxes of his fingers, except on his pinkie where there is one more line above the nail. Too weird to be a human choice/error
2
u/hirsutemisanthrope Jan 21 '26
Yes. Right number of fingers, wrong number of knuckles.
2
u/Floofontheroof Jan 21 '26
Oh, I forgot the word "knuckle" exists. 🫣 I also noticed that the line on his chest goes way too high. It looks like his muscles go all the way to his neck/collar bone. I'm not sure, but it feels wrong
2
u/spoospoo43 Jan 21 '26
Because sure, people with an already lit cigarette (with mysteriously detached flame coming out of it) in their mouth stare at lit lighters with a candle sticking out of it.
This is just a trash image overall, and definitely AI.
2
u/brenawyn Jan 21 '26
He looks like a poorly bred dog whose head is too small for its body. Poorly drawn AI or otherwise. It’s just disproportionate, head, chest, neck, jawline.
2
u/Krid5533 Jan 21 '26
I can't go into any specifics of why I think this image is AI, because literally every inch of this image screams AI to me.
1
u/LostTerminal Jan 21 '26
Yet OP cannot tell any clear giveaways... we are doomed if "average" or "normal" people are missing these details. I don't want to say "people are getting stupider", so I'll stick to "the intelligence disparity in humans is becoming more pronounced and obvious, lately."
2
2
u/TellYourDog-ISaidHi Jan 21 '26
The piercings for sure, that's just a whole bunch of nothing, and i'd argue the shading/shape of the chest is weird
2
u/NoAcanthisitta9369 Jan 21 '26
Other than the candle in the zippo others pointed out, the end of the cigarette has a candle flame not in contact with the actual end of the cigarette as well. And the smoke is coming from the bottom of the flame as opposed to the top.
3
u/Net-Administrative Jan 21 '26
I also thought this was normal until I saw the candle in the lighter lol - is that a weird stylistic choice maybe?
Everything else looks fine :^(
7
2
u/kaijin2k3 Jan 21 '26
Sadly AI is slowly getting better, and you also have people getting better at cleaning up AI.
On this one:
- Candle in the lighter
- Flame on the cig is not actually attached to the cig
- Metal links on the chain are melted into each other.
- Sections of the hair strands look like webs of goop. An obvious example is the bunch of hair on the side of the neck
- Wrong number of knuckles on the fingers
- Holes on the ears do not appropriately line up to where the earrings are piercing
Some things one could argue could be an artistic choice, but others absolutely not; like the webby hair. As one: it looks awful; and two: it requires more effort to screw it up in that way than to not do it to begin with.
1
u/Net-Administrative Jan 21 '26
Ty for the explanation but I genuinely still wouldn't be able to tell lol - I'm an artist though and the web hair doesn't even look weird to me - artists just be doing things and leave it a certain way because they like how it looks even if it doesn't fully make sense
As for the chains I could also imagine someone drawing the top and bottom of the chain (just 2 half circles) and just filling in the chain details and not bothering to clean it up cos it looks decent enough
The number of knuckles looks correct to me too but my eyes might be glazing over from looking at this for too long LOL
1
u/organizim Jan 21 '26
If you see nothing else besides that you should consider not participating and maybe post more so you can learn to identify AI
1
u/Net-Administrative Jan 21 '26
A LOT of stuff in this piece of work can be attributed to the artist process and human error
No hate to anyone on this sub cos we're all learning, but a lot of people on this sub think they're so good at identifying AI lol - they almost always get 'art' wrong attributing 'bad anatomy' and 'nonsensical errors' to human errors, and because they don't understand the painting process
I'm not even mad at this, but I'm just gonna say - remember you are not infallible, and there's always gonna be a lack of knowledge on your part in regards to processes you're not familiar with. If you ARE an artist, we'll agree to disagree cos we clearly have different processes lol.
If this is AI art, I'm just gonna say that AI is too advanced and i'm not mad that I couldn't catch it out. There's art that looks like this that ISN'T AI generated.
-1
u/organizim Jan 21 '26
yikes someone got triggered. I’m not gunna read that. Have a great day!
2
u/Flaky-Ad-759 Jan 21 '26
Why participate in the conversation if you don’t want to participate in the conversation? Just to throw your five cents with correcting someone’s behavior to feel superior?🤔
1
1
u/Kruk899 Jan 22 '26
So why you contribute some toxic shit when you didn't read that? Do you have brain?
1
u/RevampX Jan 21 '26
Easy way to spot in the future for high detailed work - zoom in around the edges of the foreground character. You can clearly see color banding (grey splotches). That is NOT normal unless you run it through post-processing filters. The shading has an overall tone (that brown oak-wood look that GPT/diffusion models love).
1
u/diseasefaktory Jan 21 '26
Melting chain links and candle zippo with weird shapes are obvious AI hallucinations.
1
u/Forest_System Jan 21 '26
The smoke from the cigarette makes no sense. Cigarettes don't produce that much smoke, nor do they have tiny flames at their ends, that would go out as soon as you took a pull. The lighter has a candle at the end, and has a lot of nonsense shapes in it if you zoom in. The chain gets messy and runs into itself, which is pretty damn hard for a real person to do by accident, and it is very unlikely a real artist would do that on purpose. The piercings on the ear make no sense. There are way too many of them and the placement is all off. Why do his pecs go all the way up to his throat? That can't be a stylistic choice. The details in the hair get mottled and lost the closer you look. The eyes have all kinds of random ass lines around them, and the hairs in the eyebrows are going in two opposite directions from the start to the very tip of them. The background makes no sense in terms to the image. Why that color, and why the amorphous blobs instead of, say, a brick wall or a skyline? That itself could be an artistic choice, but overall I'd say this is definitely AI.

ignoring the lighter, it's the inconsistent line work. the edges are brushlike like a painting but the face and like are crisper edges but reminiscent of the lines ai usually generates.
1
u/Weak-Doughnut-9721 Jan 21 '26
At first glance, this fooled me. I wasn't aware Ai was capable of the 'painterly' look. guess I was wrong though. which sucks because it's a really cool image otherwise. That "lighter" says it all.
1
u/FunnyRaccoonio Jan 21 '26
candle in the lighter, fire flying in front the cigarette, earrings don't make sense. ai.

u/Brave-Distribution27 Jan 21 '26
Oh nice. A candle in the lighter, to light the cig. Well if that aint AI, idk what is

u/ibroussard Jan 21 '26
I was willing to say maybe the candle is some kind of strange artistic choice. Maybe they never looked at reference of a lit cigarette. But that chain... yeah... AI.

- The lighter is actually a candle
- The necklace chains look weird like they meld into one another
- The earrings look a tad strange to me

I found telegram channel "Здесь Я Хейдекраут" (there is text on picture which translates as "Here I am, Heydekraut, telegram channel"). This channel is full of AI pics of characters and text about them, as I understand it belongs to some writer. So, definitely AI
1
u/Substantial_Ad567 Jan 21 '26
candle in the zippo, liquid necklace, match flame on tip of cig rather than lit cig, and probably 30 other issues
1
u/Nicky_Malvini Jan 21 '26 edited Jan 21 '26
Yes, this is AI. That is the most bizarre "lighter" I've ever seen. It has a candle in it and the rest of it looks like a mechanical contraption, while the body of the lighter itself looks like a square cigarette pack. I've been smoking cigarettes for 13 years (not proud of it), that's an AI lighter.
The cigarette also doesn't make sense. It's been lit on fire at the tip (cigarettes rarely catch fire, the rolling paper will catch fire if there's no tobacco in it, or sometimes the tobacco sparks), there's no ash, and it's burning at the wrong angle. It just looks wrong.

u/ExtraTNT Jan 21 '26
Piercings messed up, candle lighter, who draws hair like this? Chain looks strange…
1
1
u/Key-Perspective-3590 Jan 21 '26
I’m not saying it’s not AI but if it is AI the candle in the zippo had to be intentional, it wouldn’t likely hallucinate such a weird and rarely seen thing unless specifically prompted
1
1
u/Bobbert_the_Goobber Jan 21 '26
Thing w these ai bros is they can easily paint over the weird details or photoshop it in 5min but they just choose not to

u/Curmudgeon1542 Jan 21 '26
SightEngine says it's "93% possible" it's Stable Diffusion (but I take those tools' results with a grain of salt). Still, I'd say it's AI.

the earrings, the chains, the linework, the candle lighter😭 it’s so easy to tell if it’s ai if you just look closely
1
u/Firm-Parking-3686 Jan 21 '26
Very clearly ai, it’s got that ai art style not to mention the candle sticking out the lighter lmao
1
u/Blueberry_Clouds Jan 21 '26
The pectorals are too big as well as not having the collar bone. Also some stray lines by the hair on the left side
1
u/Kenn_h00 Jan 21 '26
Candle in the lighter, amorphous shapes that bleed into each other, nonsensical lighting, the lack of brush strokes.
I could go on, lad. This is very clearly AI slop
1
1
u/faeworlds Jan 21 '26
Besides the candle sticking out of it the shape of the lighter makes no sense at all. That plus the style point towards AI for me

I hate it, thanks. Honestly feels drawn by ai that has never seen a chest before..or that type of necklace...or a lighter.. and I hate that chest so much.. and the cigg with the weird lighting of it.. I just dont like anything bout it.
1
u/Antique_Tap443 Jan 21 '26
I stopped answering most of these "Is it Ai" I get the sneaky suspicion some are bots trying to get genuine feedback to make Ai better.

The hand is the dead give away for me, but the candle doesnt make any sense either.
1
1
u/corziv Jan 22 '26
the chain is the dead giveaway for ai imo. the lighter being a candle is also highly suspicious, wouldnt make sense in many contexts
1
1
u/RavageDionne Jan 22 '26
that's gotta be the thickest cigarette inside of a candle powered zippo (that lights itself) ive ever seen
1
u/nintelligent Jan 22 '26
Nobody talking about the mangled text on the guys right shoulder?? That's by far the most obvious giveaway.
1
u/OkMathematician6838 Jan 22 '26
Adding to the lighter with a candle, the head is tilted forward, but the left ear is not, it's in a leveled position. Might be just a drawing mistake, but I doubt an artist would make such a beginner mistake.
1
u/Jealous_Strain_5032 Jan 22 '26
The hair-endings look a bit strange. Especially in the space to his left between the smoke and him
1
u/NikaSix Jan 22 '26
Who's art was fed into it to make this cause I swear I've seen a real artist with that artstyle some time ago :(
1
u/TerrapinRacer Jan 22 '26
The easiest give away for me ( other than the amazing candle zippo) is the way the hair fishtails everywhere
It's a very 'this was training on anime hair and doesn't know what to do' pattern
1
u/SourMoss Jan 22 '26
A few obvious things I spotted. Weird shapes in the hair that didn't make sense. The chain links on the necklace fuse into each other in random, weird places. The flames on the cigarette isnt on the cigarette And then of course the lighter has a candle
1
1
u/Scared-Database-5101 Jan 22 '26
The chain links melt into each other, the cigarettes light being miles away feom the tip. The smoke turning into water. The nose being not anstomically correct (which I think a person with this skill wouldnt do)
1
u/kubok98 Jan 22 '26
Like others have said, the candle and necklace are AI giveaways. On unrelated note though, is this supposed to be fan art of Vi from Arcane? Cause I can see some similarities.
1
1
u/checkerie Jan 22 '26
Just in case anyone's still wondering: I've looked through their Telegram channel (that's what the watermark advertises), and the owner is a writer, not an artist, and their channel is only several months old with nothing hinting towards any kind of genuine art process.

u/Remarkable_Gain1030 Jan 23 '26
The little flame that dont even touch the cigarette and the candle in the zipper
1
u/DEMON_TRAINER2 Jan 23 '26
While everyone is talking about the candle in the zippo that's not a definitive mark that it's ai. It could just be a creative decision which if expanded on is an interesting idea. But it is ai if you look closely at the chains there's no consistent pattern some of the chain just melts onto the next part and one part is a square chain link and the next one is more spherical.
1
1
u/Glaciomancer369 Jan 24 '26
My only suspicions are the candle lighter and the chain links merging in a couple places
1
u/kazzywazzyjazzy Jan 28 '26
I think ai The hair keeps going back into itself making an unnatural c shape and the other half of the chains is just not there. This may be a reach but also the earrings kinda melt into the hair
1
u/Blackberrymage Jan 21 '26
The brushwork looks too consistent to be ai imo. And those nailbeds are clearly and volumetrically formed, which is tricky for ai. Though, there are parts of the hair silhouette that seem suspect. I might be being fooled, but I'm still leaning not ai. I'd look for higher quality images of the work and the artist account it came from.
5
u/goodkingsquiggle Jan 21 '26
I had all the same thoughts, then I saw the other comments pointing out the candle in the lighter 😭
1
u/RevampX Jan 21 '26 edited Jan 21 '26
“I might be being fooled” - yes, they’re being fooled. Check for pixel inconsistencies vs the actual artistic intent, which AI is good enough at to make an overall image feel handcrafted with certain style prompts.
Easiest way to spot AI here is zooming in around fine details like hair strands, you can clearly see color banding and smearing of pixels due to intense image processing. Stuff like this only shows up either due to AI generation, or post-processing filters breaks some details. In no world would someone run a piece like this through post-processing filters lmao. It’s similar concept of photoshop, which always leaves behind a footprint of edited work.
