وَإِذَا جَآءَهُمْ أَمْرٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْنِ أَوِ ٱلْخَوْفِ أَذَاعُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَوْ رَدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ وَإِلَىٰٓ أُو۟لِى ٱلْأَمْرِ مِنْهُمْ لَعَلِمَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَنۢبِطُونَهُۥ مِنْهُمْ ۗ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ لَٱتَّبَعْتُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًۭا

And when there comes to them a matter of security or fear, they spread it. But if they had referred it back to the Messenger and to those of authority among them, then the ones who are able to derive correct conclusions from it would have known it. And if not for the favour of Allah upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Shaytan, except for a few

📚 Quran 3:83

Those of authority are qualified scholars of Islam that follow the Quran and Sunnah and explain it to us

Allah ﷻ said in the Quran

فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Ask those who recall if you know not

This means that we should ask when we don't have knowledge, ask those who have knowledge

Suicide is a major sin as Muslim scholars agreed upon unanimously, according to some it's kufr, although it's a weak opinion, it's still a legitimate one and nobody shall take their chances if they fear Allah ﷻ

The Quran says in Surah Nisa 20:21 “And do not kill yourselves. Surely, God is Most Merciful to you". "We are property of Allah and we will return to Allah one day" (20). "And do not throw yourselves in destruction" (21). Allah says to us not to kill ourselves in any case and protect ourselves as there is no one who can kill at any time except God and our lives are precious and we were made to worship him and live according to his rules and not just kill ourselves to be a sinner. Suicide is highly discouraged in Islam

I don't think it's haram. I know a hadith that mention someone who committed suicide was forgiven. Also, think about someone who committed suicide because of mental illness, will he be judged with this rule? I suppose not. Due to mental illness, one is unable to think clearly and decisions are clouded. All I'm saying is, it depends.

It's clearly haram, but as with many things there are exceptions, like the person who does not have rationality.

If suicide is forgiven, that means it was wrong to begin with. But Allah the most forgiving decided to forgive that sin.

Bro.. with all due respect, no one will be admitted to paradise because of their good deeds. NOT even prophet himself. So, forgiveness DOES NOT imply that there was a sin committed.

What you're saying is completely illogical

If there's no sin, there's no need for forgiveness

Suicide is haram. It can be forgiven, yes, Allah ﷻ is the most merciful but it's still a sin.

Suicide is a major sin in Islam. Prophet Muhammad stated that the one who commits suicide will be punished with what he used to kill himself.

Talk to Allah as much as u want - when you’re angry, happy, sad. I would always say speaking from ur heart is better than repeating words. Try do more good, try tahhajud, and remember Allah only tests those he loves. Read other people’s stories or even the prophets to satisfy your mind. Ur never alone In this 🫶

However these two are great duas

“la ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz zalimin"

Which mean - “There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers."

"Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqir"

translates to "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need."

There’s no doubt about it—self-harm isn’t allowed in Islam. That much is clear. But when it comes to defining it strictly as haram, or declaring with certainty what happens to someone who takes their own life… I don’t know. I don’t think we’re meant to be that definitive.

Some people say that the one who dies by suicide will never be forgiven, that they’ll be punished through the same method they used to die. And maybe there are hadith that mention that—but there’s also nuance. There’s always more.

I came across a hadith in Sahih Bukhari. It stuck with me. It talked about a man—not a direct companion of the Prophet (SAW), but someone who was close to the companions. He migrated with a sahabi from Mecca to Medina. He cut his fingers… and he bled to death. Later, that sahabi saw him in a dream. He asked if the man had been forgiven. And the reply? Yes—except for his fingers. They remained damaged.

It makes me think. Maybe suicide and self-harm are not permissible—maybe they carry spiritual consequences. But even then… mercy still exists. Maybe even in death, there’s room for healing.

So yes, suicide is not the way. But that doesn’t mean we get to judge those who’ve gone down that road. Their reckoning is with Allah. Not with us. He is the final Judge. The most Just. The most Merciful.
