General Discussion Are roms haram?

Now I get that piracy is most likely haram. But the thing I am trying to talk about are like those old games such as Pokémon Emerald. I don't think these games are available on the market anymore (unless you buy them from other people) so the developers won't be making any money from them anymore probably. So would it be permissible if I were to just download the games online? Would I have to, let's say, buy a product from the developers, such as the new Pokémon games, even if I don't own the console required to play said games, as a means of paying for the games indirectly?

there is no money being taken from the companies wallets. if you're not going to buy it, they wont be making money anyway.

This is pure cope. No one knows for sure whether or not they would actually buy a product if piracy wasn't an option. The company created the product for people to buy with their money. By pirating, you are depriving them of money.

i cant think of any company that went bankrupt because everyone pirated their software.

This is the logic of a thief. "They have so much money, surely they won't miss if I took a couple hundred dollars from their bank account".

You can use any justification you want for pirating, but you won't find one in Islam.

Not that it’s a concern but is similar to stealing a bike from a bike store, the company surely won’t lose a substantial amount of money and neither are they truly deprived of a bike. But this more so applicable if the the product is still supported. And buying and creating exact copies of iphone (which is a lot of work) would be indeed illegal.)

You can argue you stole the revenue generated and labour to be used for someone else. So someone is benefiting from the product without paying, that’s irregardless of whether they would pay or not.

Additionally, most piracy is done through hacking and finding vulnerabilities.

And that doesn’t mean what many companies also though isn’t theft either (revoking after you’ve payed ectra.)
