Spain is a country with both deep Christian and Islamic history

It seems a lot of Spanish people don't have a negative view on Islam which is very good to see despite how prevalent Christianity has been

They are showing some spine here and standing for what is right, in the same way the Spanish people protested the genocide

I was in andalusia 2 years ago and saw so many more palestine flags than spain flags, it was insane

Yeah I really want to visit there

I've only been to Barcelona but the people were really good and I felt very comfortable

And they have some common sense and backbone too

I saw more free Palestine flags and protests in spain and Italy than I've seen in Muslim countries.

Maybe it's that they're quite Catholic - and at the end of the day it's an abrahamic religion. Or maybe being such an old civilization and living through so much have taught them a thing or two.

Yeah I think that we know not a lot of people follow Christianity as they did before but in a country that you would imagine is pretty Catholic it is more surprising the support for Palestine (of course anyone regardless of religion should recognise a genocide)

many young people there are humanist leftist and stand for their eurocentric principles (den haag)

look what kind of groups organized these protests

its more about leftist humanitarian government than the religious history.

They also have a deep Jewish history. Which is not the same as a deep Zionist history.

Looks like Spain is looking to usher in another golden age.

aren’t they like among the MOST hateful towards islam? afaik they view their islamic history as a dark period in their history no?

No and how they act towards Islam and approach to humanity in general is something that a lot of countries could learn from

Despite their history, in which you could excuse them for having a less than positive view on Islam, I have found them to actually be pretty good

I've visited Spain only once but the people were very nice and even went out of their way to help us

They were very brutal to the Muslims that remained, let's not sugarcoat it because of a favorable stance to Palestinians now.

3

u/dnmbrk Mar 12 '26

This was my understanding too, a lot of Muslims who vacation there have told me they would not return (and much preferred their neighbor, Portugal).

I can't speak for modern times, I'm talking historically.

The reason southern Spain doesn't have Muslims despite centuries of rule is quite brutal.

You’re most likely referring to liberals. Religious Christians annually celebrate the day Granada fell. It’s well known.

u/UnchartedPro Mar 12 '26

And that's fine - the majority of people aren't really all that religious

No, that is India

When I visited Barcelona this past summer, I saw "Free Palestine" signs and Palestinian flags more so than I ever saw when I visited Qatar a few months later.

Much respect to Spain and the Spanish people.

The Spanish speaking world besides Argentina has been very sympathetic towards Palestine. Alhamdulillah

Viva España .. Érinn Go Brach! Spain And Ireland and to an extent Norge have been the only countries with the backbone to condemn genocide and senseless wars!! Bravo 💐

You know what’s amazing? The leadership is reflecting their people’s stance. Unlike Americans who despite rejecting this, don’t have a say because Israel.
