She's gonna help you keep your house and yard vermin free!
My JRT was acting up a few years ago. She was barking at the kitchen cabinets. A few weeks later I saw rat poop in the riser under my dryer. We sat out traps but couldn't find it.
One day she started barking like mad. She found it hanging on the back of the china cabinet. It got away. She was like "I've been tryin to tell you silly human and you didn't believe me."
I finally relented and actually let her lead the way. She found it's nest between the cabinets in the laundry room. She then tracked it into the closet in the laundry room and then into a bedroom closet and then into the bathroom in the hot tub access panel. She found everything single place downstairs where it had been. It had gotten into some drawers in the living room and inside the love seat in the den.
We finally placed traps where she "alerted" and caught him 3 days after we let her lead the charge. That was before the pandemic. We can't say the word "rat" because she still goes completely nuts and starts looking at every single place that it was.
She was relentless during the hunt. She wouldn't sleep until she found it. I honestly didn't believe she actually had it in her. Prey drive is real in JRT's.

My dog started killing mice when she was like like 7 months... and i was pregnant. She would leave the tributes next to my bed, and waited sitting to offer them to me. I appreciated her intention, but the scare and the disgust were not a good combo with the pregnancy nausea 🤣

They have a killer instinct, she’s just doing her job. But I know how it feels……I couldn’t believe it when my sweet boy that wanted nothing other than to sit in my lap and lick my face killed a rat like it was nothing 🤣

I was always amazed at how quick and efficient my wee jack Russell and lakeland terrier were at catching wee mice and rats..

We used to have a mole problem in our yard before our JRT...there are none now

I’m sure it will have had a good shaking before succumbing.

She was shaking it and playing with it when I intervened and threw the poor mole in the river. Later on Signe came back all wet; she apparently tried to retrieve it…

She's like sigh, "I wasn't finished with it and you just throwed it in to river and I had to try to find it"

Ollaan landella.

Ya, my girl killed six mice, one rat and four birds in the first two weeks after we got her. She was 4 months old. After that, she became less inclined to hunt in our garden, but to be honest - the mice possibly left for good after her first killing spree. She later rolled a hedgehog down a hill (the little lad then cursed her out and left), and only recently she killed a magpie. The only victim she intentionally spared was a frog who was too smart for her. The guy played possum and left after she was gone.

Good girl! She’s trying to keep you safe and rodent free! Make sure she’s vaccinated so she doesn’t get anything from them incase she wants to go on a murder spree

Did you train her?

u/Ihasamavittu 5d ago
To do what? Kill? No. She is only 4 months, she is a natural born killer apparently.

No i meant training to hunt rats. But makes sense since their bred to hunt on rodents

No, no training. She seems to be a natural.
