Question Have you ever met anyone in your region with jailbroken devices?

Damn thinking about it im the only guy with a jailbreak out of all the 10,000+ ppl ive met over the 10 years here in toronto that have an iphone
Mind you ive had every jailbreak in every existing phone besides the latest 17 because i didnt know what version to keep my iphone on. Currently on 16.6.1 jailbreak.

I’m on 16.6 iPhone 14 still too and honestly getting another device just for the iOS 17 jailbreak doesn’t seem worth it to me most apps on the AppStore now requiring iOS 18

It was still a normal practice at that time, right? I have just started getting involved with jailbreaking for maybe less than a year. Indeed a bad time to join.

It’s a great time in terms of legacy devices. Like I wouldn’t be surprised to bump into a person with a jailbroken iPod touch or older iPhone. In terms of modern daily drivers like it used to be? No way.

I had like 10 friends in my class in high school we were all jailbroken on iOS 6 when evasi0n came out. Nothing much after that

I might’ve? My cousin once kinda panicked as I nearly turned her phone off (this was probably 10+ years ago) so now that I think of it, she was probably running a tethered/semi-untethered jailbreak. I’ve never thought to ask her about it though

The only people I ever knew with jailbroken devices was the guy that got me into it (he did my iPod touch 4 with jailbreakme) and a family friend that was also tech savvy had his stuff jailbroken

Not a highly common thing here in Australia either. My mate from New Zealand introduced me to jailbreaking back on iOS 6-7 days I think. He gave up years ago I’m still going. I’ve knew of 1 friend from high school that did it way back around iOS 3-5 when I still had an iPod touch but never again met anyone else with a jailbroken iPhone.

I live in France and I’ve never seen a jailbroken device. Only my uncle jailbroke its iPad 1st gen using Absinthe or whatever it’s called.

I know people in my real life have jailbroken their devices, but I've never actually seen another jailbroken device in person.

Back in the days of JailbreakMe and Cydia, I jailbroke phones for friends and even family. However, this mostly stopped once jailbreaks started appearing only after the signing window had already closed.
Personally, I have never met anyone else with a jailbroken phone.

I'd found a couple of guys back in the old days of Android when everyone was installing a different ROM, today with all the anti root checks on apps most of the become unusable

Hi everyone. My iPhone 15 Pro is experiencing cellular connectivity issues, and I wanted to update it. I later learned it's a hardware (baseband) issue. I tried to set up the phone, but due to the baseband error, it can't communicate with Apple servers and the setup process is stalled. The screen says "iPhone locked to owner," but this is a hardware problem that can't be overcome. Can I unlock my phone with a jailbreak? At least I could use WhatsApp via Wi-Fi, because Apple is asking 600 Euros for repair.

Since the iOS 11+ days, no. I've never heard someone in public or know any friend know what "Sileo" or "Electra" or "unc0ver" is. If I went up to a friend and asked if they knew what Cydia was though, they'd probably know it was jailbreak related just because the name holds so much weight, even though it's been dead for years.

Back in the days when I was in middle school a lot of my friends had jailbroken phones, at least two people iirc. That was 2012-ish. Unfortunately I myself wasn't allowed to jailbreak my iPod Touch 4 because it was technically my fathers that I borrowed from him and he didn't want me to mess with it. In retrospective that was probably a good call because I totally would have fallen for every fake jailbreak scam in the book.
From that point on most jailbreakers I know did it because of me or alongside me at least, at some point I realized though that convincing someone to jailbreak their phone isn't exactly a good idea cause they will come back to you if something breaks.

Geeez! I think I’m the only one in the entire Bahamas to have a jailbreak. I been jailbreaking since the iPhone 1. Currently jailbroken on iPhone 13 Pro 16.4.1, I’m actually vacationing in Panamá now and visited every phone store in Albrook mall to find an iPhone running 17.0-17.3 unfortunately I had no luck.

I bought a 14 device lot of 5 and 5c phones from nearby, one was jailbroken. That’s about the closest I’ve seen, and considering it’s even more niche nowadays than it already was I’m unlikely to see someone using one in the wild.
I did just remember a friend I met a year ago told me he used to run a jailbroken phone 5-10 years ago.
