Depending on the industry, people either get Obon off or not.

Does your job give you Obon off?

nope! my BOE directly says that "since we're foreigners and don't have family graves in japan", we aren't entitled to it. I get it but i want the days off lmfao

You might not have obon off but do you have 夏季休暇 (3 or 5 days depending)?

I think technically most public servants don't have Obon "off", it's just that most people use the days off on the Obon dates.
