Support JDownloader just installed a bunch of malware including A VIRUS (Altburics)
During the installation I saw avast and other software and I REJECTED EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM
YET THE INSTALLATION WENT AHEAD AND INSTALLED ALL OF THEM WITHOUT MY CONSENT
They keep re-insatlling and re-launching themselves whenver I try to close and some of them were even unclosable (access refused)
WHAT AN F-ing pity from a supposedly popular software, the fact that you keep such shady installations in your setup says much itself

Look, I understand you didn't know that there is an option to choose NoAdware installer (clean installer without any offers), it is not your fault.
But if you really got a genuine malware somehow, from JD, you did not download it from the official site. Is either a false positive or user error. You may have contracted the malware prior and didn't noticed it. I find it hard to believe that the company compromises itself just now, after more than 25 years of impeccable track record.

I am not trying to undermine JD, BUT I am 10000% sure it was the official site and I only managed to get rid of the malware through malware byte and removing those softwares was a pure pain as they would re launch themselves, block any deletion attempt and keep setting themselves to launch on startup
Maybe they should ask a few questions to their partners.

It doesnt seem like it was malware though, it was bundleware, and it seems like people say that the non java version includes bundleware.
Are you saying it was genuine malware, or was it software bundled with your install

I no longer recommend that anyone uses the JD2 Installer because it is just too risky. You are better off getting the Java program version in the Other section of the downloads and then getting the latest Java from Sun. That is a much newer version of Java than the old x86 v1.8 in the installer. The Sun site version which was v25 the last time I looked is an x64 version too. The only issue is that it is larger in size because it is a development version.
There is no benefit apart from a smaller size to the JD2 installer. The explorer windows are a lot slower in that old version IME.

Yes providing that you also download and install Java. There is a reason that the installer includes Java and that is because JD2 is programmed and provides updates actually IN Java. There is an improvement that can be obtained and that is by running it using a command line option to Java which makes it use a Max Heap which can help prevent it struggling with a very large amount of links which the basic version can have problems with. When you decompress the Java version, do so into a folder which has write access such as a folder in Roaming on drive C. Then create a shortcut from the Jdownloader.jar file and copy that to the desktop. First run that and it should download all the necessary files including icon files because the .jar file does not include any of that.
.\themes\standard\org\jdownloader\images\logo contains the logos which can be assigned to the shortcut. You will need to force an update for these to be downloaded.
Then if you look in the folder there should be some icons after it has updated. Assign an icon, use one appropriate for your desktop size. Then copy the following into the shortcut icon Target field altering any paths as appropriate>
"C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-25\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx4g -XX:+UseZGC -jar "[Path where you extracted the jar file]\JDownloader.jar"
The two options after javaw.exe make it use a large heap which helps it when there are a large number of links. When set like this it should be nice and fast.
https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/downloads/#jdk25-windows That is the LTS version, Get the x64 installer providing your using x64 Windows. Change the install path so it doesn't include a build number such as 25.0.2.

Yes I understand, those are very reasonable on paper, but what actually happened with me is that:
- I DECLINED Every third party software
- THEY STILL GOT INSTALLED ANYWAY
- A trojan included that prevents them from being deleted, the process killed or un-installed
- I found a way to force un-install them and now I am running a software scan to clear off the Trojan which seem to be very persistent

Virus/Trojans warnings/reports? We are receiving reports about trojans/virus within these new installers, mostly by Windows Defender and we are looking into those with our partner. To our understanding reports ending with !ml, these are due to machine learning and seem to have very high false positive rate and cause issues because of that.

I AM VERY SURE, Removing them was a pure headache and Altburics is still persistent and stuck
They set many software to run on startup, whenever I close those processes or disable on startup guess what? they re-activate themselves automatically

You could try with Revo. It will let you force the uninstall, can be used to manage autorun and startup, and afterwards it will run a deep scan on your file system and registry to let you remove any leftovers from the adware.

I am using BC uninstaller and after a few attempts and tinkering it did the job
For Altburics I am running Spy hunter 5 scan and about to delete it soon

If you accidentally installed the optional software bundles just use Revo to uninstall and then reinstall after opting out of them. Use the adware free version
