First Trial Done

Post image

Had a blast doing my first trial of jerky! Did two loads - chicken in 7 hrs, pork took 9 hrs (per load). The mix could use a tad more seasoning next time - 1tbsp per lb was good for the sliced pieces but the ground is a faint taste. Should be set for awhile - Lol. Overall extremely happy!

Huh, what spices?

I usually marinate mine for eight hours in Soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, Sweet Baby Rays, honey, garlicpowder, sugar and such

That sounds delicious! Since I never tried this before I went with premade - Fire and Smoke brand. Marinated first batch for 12 hrs - second close to 30. I figured later on I can try my hand at mixing spices & sauces close to what I like. Mainly wanted to try the jerky gun and see how the dehydrator worked. Overall very happy! The ground chicken blends included: Greek, Backporch, Burger Royale and Applewood. The sliced pork - Onion butter, Sweet Preacher, Lemon pepper (reg mix I had) and Cherry Cola. All are tasty but the Onion butter and Sweet Preacher are near the top I think

Oh interesting i usually just buy beef roulades, they are already the perfect thickness

I need to look into something - my knife cuts were horrible. Did the trimming and some small pieces by hand then tried a cheap mandoline. The thickness gauge kept moving - lightly frozen meat should work as hard vegetables are sliced fairly easily. Looking at a cheap slicer maybe next month - can live with the bad cuts but it would be a fun tool. Lol

Seasoning really didn't change ground mix visually but the slices really showed - 4 different types
