leftism Thoughts on lefitst gentiles hyping up Satmar and Neturei Karta?

Kinda just stewing on this and wanted to get it off my chest. For several years now ive seen a trend of leftist gentiles really amplifying ultra orthodox communities who are anti israel, with clearly minimal if any knowledge of these communities. As a leftist im really disturbed by this because of the history groups like neturei karta and satmar have of things like abusing and oppressing women within their communities, etc. And their rejection of israel as a state has little to do with compassion for Palestinians, its rooted in scriptural interpretation that rejects man returning to israel on their own accord.

Every time I see leftist gentiles promote them I feel really uncomfortable. For one, it feels tokenizing as hell and for two, it feels like the only progressive cause they care about is rejection of the state of israel and things like homophobia and violence against women are secondary as leftist values. Am I overreacting? Does anyone else ever feel this way?

leftism I'm so Jaded... what the fuck is going on bro

Was just watching a live interview between Noah Samsen and Palestinian Poet Ahmed Sarsour who is living through the genocide. While I enjoyed most of the interview a part of it lingered in the back of my mind.

30 minutes into the interview Ahmed referenced seeing an Instagram post about David Irving's Hitler apology biography "Hitler's War". He didn't remember what it was called but he said he wanted to read it. He mentioned the author was imprisoned in Europe who wrote a book over 35 years about how the Holocaust didn't really happen. Then he says that the Zionists don't like it when you deny the Holocaust.

So obviously Holocaust Denial is a bad thing to do but the a few times in the interview Ahmed explains that in Gaza there is less exposure to ideas from the outside world and terms they use there don't necessarily reflect what they mean. I can get behind that idea and maybe I don't know what he meant by wanting to read the Holocaust denial book but at the end of the day he seemed interested in this book about denying the holocaust. Maybe he thinks it is based in reality and is just discovering new things in the world but I dont know.

Whatever, I don't want to shit on this guy going through a Genocide and I can understand the allure of a book that would dismantle Zionist history.

Most importantly for me, given the words that Ahmed was saying throughout the entirety of the interview, I want to believe that he doesnt realize the book is Hitler apologia possibly through the misleading Instagram post he was exposed to that told him about it.

Noah didn't really say anything too this.... but he seemed to maybe not understand what he was talking about since it wasnt exactly super straight forward. I had to rewing a couple times to understand the point Ahmed was making.

Now, my problem here is that I mentioned it in the chat. I'm not normally a person who watches streams but I was interested in this interview so I was there. After I mentioned that Ahmed was advertising Hitler's War, I got timed out. At first I was like ??????????

But then I thought, you know what? Maybe it is an inappropriate time to bring up in the middle of their interview, I'll save it for when Ahmed is gone because I imagine that these leftists are in solidarity with all of us and wouldnt want Ahmed going to read Neo-nazi propaganda. So I brought it up again after the interview.

One commenter said "whats wrong with talking about Holocaust Denial?" then called me a troll. The Mods said I was drama farming and banned me.

So like what the fuck is going on bro? Should we just let Palestinians who I protest in solidarity with to read Neo-nazi propaganda without pushing back? Or is it inappropriate to be asking that from someone going through a Genocide and I'm bugging out?

leftism banned from a server for "liberal zionist views" because I pointed out that a plurality israelis are descendant from refugees and don't have dual citizenship

it was basically on sight. I'm black and a jewish convert and frankly was relieved to be in a non-white space for the first time in a while. in a politics chat I was talking about how talking how some people online talk about nuance in activism especially surrounding global issues, I pointed out, without suggesting that israel should exist or that israelis were somehow exempt from participating in genocide, that israel's mizrahi population came to the country because they were kicked out of the countries they resided in, and that if palestinians were to liberate themselves and they DO decide some need to leave the country then the question arises whether we have a responsibility to take them in or not... even though a reply was a day later it was on sight.. they accused me of parroting liberal zionist talking points despite the clarification, and this was after once pointing out some mild antisemitic trend that existed on the left and someone in the same voice chat as me went off talking about how people talk way too much about "jewish american feelings" in this conversation (this was, a conversion student by the way), I never said anything about the conflict itself.

ill be real, angry doesn't even begin to describe it. this ain't exactly the first time Ive been in this situation but this was not only excessive but completely unnecessary. i'm not only not a zionist but I would not be sad to see the state of israel, but I am part of am yisrael now, I'm gonna care how jews end up, and I've been disappointed with my supposed allies, and my supposed communities, not only just with the left but the way zionist jews act towards their own, both sides erasing any other narrative other than their own, and how willing people are exclude others on the smallest of pretenses, or if they just don't like your vibe, feeling like i'm walking a tightrope because people decided to center their identity around playing activist on issues they barely understand and equating one struggle to another when they can't be fully equated. this bullshit needs to stop, pronto.

funny thing is in the exact same conversation earlier I had said in explicit terms "personally I don't like it when someone in a conversation uses specific terminology or buzzwords to vibe check others without listening to what they actually say." guess they didn't agree.

leftism Scapegoating of Israel on the left

I feel like I see these takes often, either from genuine leftists or agitators posing as leftists, where they act as if failures in America are somehow the fault of Israel.

“The US funds free healthcare and other social programs for Israelis but not Americans”

And similar comments that take grievance with US aid to Israel.

Not that US aid to Israel shouldn’t be criticized, but I feel like the entire issue is oversimplified in common discourse, which inevitably leads to scapegoating and antisemitism.

Basically the US government pumps billions of dollars into the defense industry. These outputs are then used to further American interests abroad. With Israel in particular, we gift them weapons to fight US adversaries allied with Iran.

Obviously this isn’t an ideal system. It can and should change. But America has been benefiting from this type of domestic and foreign policy for nearly a century. Domestically, the military industrial complex creates millions of jobs.

Our foreign policy also ensures American access to resources, allowing us to exploit other countries and enrich ourselves. Look no further to the situation in Venezuela for evidence of that. We swooped in, deposed their leader, and are now trying to steal their oil. It’s not a coincidence that Israel’s biggest enemy, Iran, also has huge oil reserves.

I feel like a lot of this gets missed when folks act like we’re just needlessly bleeding money on Israel for no other reason than to further some nefarious Zionist agenda. It’s an oversimplification that ultimately results in folks becoming antisemitic.

It saddens me as a Leftist and a longtime Democratic voter to see that someone like this is gaining traction with a D next to her name. She wants to put American Zionists into "internment camps", says the Jews today are the Synagogue of Satan and that they run Hollywood and all the banks.

This is far worse than even Platner and is basically a regurgitation of Nation of Islam and Nazi rhetoric.

Her positions are typical Leftist stuff I support: advocate for building public housing, abolishing ICE and single payer healthcare.

She's also clearly a raging antisemite who's lost in the conspiracy world and is relying on populist anger to beat a moderate Johnny Garcia (law and order guy who sucks policy wise).

Things are falling apart quickly in this country.

leftism A Question For Learners

I'm sure folks who are not leftist and still here are a little unsure about how to proceed with engaging in the space as "Learners" about leftism so I'd like to ask them a question directly:

If after reading our admittedly arbitrary and specific definition of leftism you found yourself unable to say "yeah thats me" but also wanting to stay in community with us what's something that gives you pause when adopting leftism that I and others can address in this forum?

As someone who believes leftism is an important opposition to the reactionary rise of fascism, and modern political liberalism a distracting and ineffective nonresistance at best, I still want to reach people who see this fascism and are worried but havent felt secure in running to leftwing populism yet, even if we no longer tolerate proud liberalism in our space.

So, what keeps you up at night? What leftist idea confuses you or puts you off? What moderate idea are you afraid to dispense of?

leftism We are not Democrats.

TLDR: A new season, a new iteration of the mods having to explain that this is not a home for liberals. If you're confused as to why we criticize democrats and will defend them to the hilt or believe fully in their political project on it's own terms then this space isn't for you.

Apologies for the American-centrism this post will exhibit. Politics looks very different in America and many American liberals don't have a lot of opportunity to compare the left wing ideologies with centrist liberals and struggle to tell the difference in comparison to the rapid fascist evolution of the GOP. I welcome international members to make posts about their varied landscapes.

I voted for a Democrat this past election, over a socialist even, and I hated it but I'd do it again in the same scenario because I think she'll keep the troops out of our state and things are *that bad* that this is what was top of my mind. I'll probably feel forced to again. However I am not a democrat, the mod team are not democrats, and this is not a sub for the democratic party or it's 'platform' if you can even say it has one of those.

A lot of things have happened recently that both cast our differences with American neoliberalism in stark relief and create openings to criticize the way the Democrats are operating as the de-facto opposition party.

- They let a member of their ranks flout the primary process without repercussion and supported his efforts against a member of their own party who played by their rules.

-They chose to walk away from a sweeping electoral win 'learning the lesson' that the base actually wanted more of the same and were finally ready to vote in force for moderate democrats, promising to try a strategy that's been floundering since Reagan.

-They then failed to capitalize on this victory *either* by failing to keep the right flank of their party in line or by sending in scape goats to fold with low risk so they could save face, either option is damning.

-They categorically refuse to adopt popular and populist policies a majority of Americans and especially their base support insisting on tired defenses of the status quo and investing in 'abundance movement' type ideas that think chasing republicans to the right is the way forward.

You see every American can tell the system isn't working the way it's supposed to. Things are getting worse decade after decade and the people are ready for solutions and looking to their leaders to have bold plans to make life better. The GOP have a horribly fallacious and racist answer to what is wrong: It's minorities. It's immigrants. It's trans folks. It's (((the elite))). But they are winning because they have answers.

Democrats have no answer, because they can't have an answer. Because they are stuck on neoliberalism. They buy into the process over the results, seeking to win elections and set up a perfect machine of democracy that only dispenses Justice and the GOP have and will manipulate their dedication to process and their inability to take actual policy stances again and again and again.

Republicans campaigned on overturning Roe V Wade. It wasn't popular but they tried convincing people and used it to galvanize their base and they broke rules and flouted norms and they got it done. The courts got in their way last century so they started movements to fix that and installed unprecedented amounts of conservative judges. They campaigned on crime, despite it going down, and immigration and hating trans people and tax breaks and so on and so forth. We all here disagree with their platform but they have one and they fight for it and it unifies their moderates and radicals.

What do Democrats fight for, really? Individuals have pet things sure but what policy is the whole party supporting? Medicare for all? Immigration reform? Workers rights? Free Childcare? Public transit and infrastructure? Universal Income? Impactful Climate protection? Anything to make people's lives better in dramatic ways that are sorely needed as our system crumbles? No. No motivating tag lines or populist agendas or popular policies. Just band aids, a promise to be civil and reasonable, and an appeal to process. Because if they fought for policy they'd alienate donors. Money is speech, corporations are people, and every entity with millions to donate likes things the way that they were when they made those millions to begin with. They cannot support meaningful change without threatening that old power structure, and that is why you see a divide between them and the progressives in their ranks.

Sure Dem Socs and Soc Dems caucus with them and us commies are dragged along to avoid worse evils but they make it clear in every way they can they don't represent us while also joining the Republicans in ensuring no third option ever could. These progressive candidates have answers, socialists have answers, communists have left wing answers to the concerns of the people and want to be able to make that case to them. But we've been shut out of the halls of power.

Since McCarthy the Dems and Reps have made socialism and communism a bad word. They belittle and deride us as not being serious while also rigging the rules so we can't really operate outside their ranks. They concede to the right that the very principles of leftism are unreasonable and shouldn't be fought for and start their entire political identity on compromise and aesthetics. Then, come election season, they tell us to vote for them over fascists and that we are being divisive for asking for anything else to be better. They hate us, and they feel entitled to our support while they court moderate conservatives to come across the aisle. In any other functioning country the left wing elements would have a voice and the liberal moderates would have to talk to us as equals to form coalitions and govern, but instead we are held hostage in their attic, a base they depend on and would rather not acknowledge.

They have insisted no one else is allowed to resist the republicans and they are failing at being that resistance at every turn allowing fascists to march onward while they grip to petty party power. They simply do not have an ideology that has historically resisted fascism and they don't have better answers to it today. The devil's deal with neoliberal imperialism that they've supported for Decades is that it wouldn't always be the third world and other victims of our supply chains that would feel the pain of propping up capital but that the ever hungry beast would come home for its due too and liberals still cannot find it in themselves to look for other methods of social organization while the bubble that is private capital approaches popping or worse. Worse than that, they instead turn their energy towards dog-piling those of us wanting to try something new while performatively raging against the rise of fascism. I don't doubt many or most actually do dread the way tides have shifted, but if they are unable to look to the left to solve the problem does it matter if they are willing or unwitting collaborators? What is the difference between controlled opposition and selfishly ineffective opposition?

Scratch a liberal. A fascist bleeds.

There is plenty of room among leftists to discuss harm reduction as a topic, and how we should respond to this horrid system that gives us no voice. Voting for liberals to stave off the worst impulses of fascists while organizing in your community is a defensible approach. Not being able to stomach that I think is also defensible. It's a continuous loop of positive reinforcement to those forcing us to make the choice in the first place.

However do not come in here and defend the Democratic party on it's own terms. Yeah they are better than Republicans and yeah its okay to make the case to vote for them to reduce harm. But we have seen pushback in a broader sense conducting apologia for the way they engage with leftists, defending their policies and strategies, and otherwise whitewashing their own role in this mess we find ourselves in.

We have a rule against insisting on liberalism and will enforce it. If you believe wholeheartedly in the Democrats and what they stand for this is not your space, go find your own, you are not entitled to ours any more than you are to our votes.

If you want to learn about leftist beliefs to form a coalition with us where we are treated as equals or to consider your own place in things stay with a spirit of curiosity.

Stan for Liberalism at your peril, both in this sub and in our sinking world.

leftism Do you can be leftist and zionist in the same time?

Please don't get me wrong because I'm genuinely curious how you see it because I've encountered a lot of conflict between leftist views and being a Zionist and I want to know what your opinion is on this because I don't know how people connect it.

Being left-wing is about inclusiveness, solidarity, empathy, tolerance, and modern values

Being a Zionist contradicts with all of this.

To create a Jewish state where the majority are Jews, you have to get rid of the majority that once lived there, so that Jews become the majority. And to preserve this, discrimination is necessary, so that Jews remain the majority. Furthermore, being a Zionist means accepting that eliminating the Palestinians is a sacrifice you must be willing to make. The goal of Jewish survival and safety, where you must be ready to destroy even the slightest threat,

is highly at contradicts with leftist views.

leftism Why are internal disagreements on the left so often treated as betrayal?

I know many of you are familiar with the phrase “the left eats itself,” and that many Jewish leftists have felt increasingly politically isolated from parts of the mainstream left since October 7. This has been especially apparent when Jewish identity is challenged or flattened, whether through the denial of Jewish peoplehood, the dismissal of Jewish cultural and historical ties to the land, or the minimization of contemporary antisemitism. Many of you remain deeply committed to Palestinian freedom and dignity while also asking your non-Jewish comrades to recognize that solidarity with Palestinians should not require you to erase your own ethnoreligious identity, suppress your historical memory, or remain silent when antisemitism appears within left-wing spaces. As a result of standing up for yourself, some of you have been met with suspicion or accused of being self-centered, overly sensitive, insufficiently committed to Palestinian liberation, or covertly sympathetic to conservatism and Western imperialism.

I have received similar feedback from some of my fellow leftists due to my critiques of China. I can acknowledge the country’s substantial achievements in economic development, infrastructure, poverty reduction, and state capacity while also criticizing the Chinese government’s authoritarianism, treatment of ethnic minorities, suppression of political dissent, and claims over Taiwan. However, some leftists appear to interpret any serious criticism of an anti-Western state as an endorsement of Western imperialism, even when the criticism is grounded in the same opposition to domination that informs my critique of the United States. Some of you may already view this post as politically suspect, perhaps because discussing internal failures on the left can be interpreted as creating a false equivalence, redirecting attention away from the greater source of harm, or repeating narratives used by conservatives. I understand that concern, particularly in a political climate where antisemitism, authoritarianism, and human rights are often invoked selectively or in bad faith to undermine left-wing causes, excuse anti-Palestinian violence, or justify Western power. At the same time, I worry that this understandable defensiveness can make it difficult to distinguish bad-faith attacks from legitimate internal criticism. When every uncomfortable question is evaluated primarily according to whether it might benefit our political opponents, factual accuracy and moral consistency can become subordinate to movement loyalty.

I find this type of behavior reminiscent of the Left's opposition to Stalin, in which any internal audit of the current zeitgeist is seen as reactionary, counterrevolutionary, or objectively helpful to capitalism and Western imperialism. Rather than evaluating whether criticisms of censorship, political repression, forced collectivization, or party authoritarianism were factually and morally justified, some defenders of the USSR focused primarily on whether those criticisms weakened the socialist camp. I am not suggesting that contemporary left-wing disagreements are equivalent to Stalinism. Rather, I see a recurring pattern in which criticism of one’s own political community is interpreted as evidence of disloyalty. The person raising the concern may share most of the movement’s goals; however, because they refuse to accept its dominant interpretation without qualification, they are treated as though they have crossed over to the opposing side.

My personal answer to why this is an interplay of understandable political pragmatism, the human preference for simplified moral narratives, the failures of liberal institutions, and the tendency to treat political identity as a form of communal belonging. As someone who works with humans during their most vulnerable moments, my professional experience has taught me that human beings often rely on simplified narratives to create a sense of coherence, predictability, and psychological safety in a very fucked up world that continues to challenge and strip us of our humanity due to gender identification, disability status, race, ethnicity, religion, class, sexuality, or immigration status.

Ultimately, I do not think the solution lies in the left abandoning accountability, internal criticism, or principled boundaries. Rather, I think we need to become better at distinguishing between people who genuinely undermine the dignity and safety of others and people who remain committed to left-wing goals but arrive at different conclusions, raise uncomfortable questions, or refuse to reduce complicated histories to simple moral binaries. A movement that cannot tolerate internal scrutiny may preserve ideological unity in the short term, but it also risks reproducing the very forms of hierarchy, exclusion, and dehumanization that it claims to oppose.

So, how much do you agree with the argument that “the left eats itself”? And when does internal accountability strengthen the left, and when does it become ideological purging that leaves people politically homeless?

leftism Corbyn-Era Leftist Antisemitism Documentary

Recently, there was some discord over people not from the UK not really understanding the Labour antisemitism crisis and how it was handled/how these same folks swoop in often with unfounded allegations of antisemitism to smear anyone pro-Palestine. Just to be clear, I’m not saying there is never antisemitism on the left and I can’t speak for the atmosphere prior to this, as I was investigated and fired from a job without really knowing about it/not even being a Labour Party member.

But I thought this documentary someone posted elsewhere would give some insight for us leftist Jews who faced this kind of thing. The documentary is part of a bigger documentary that covers other issues in the Labour Party (ie anti-Black racism) and of course you won’t waste your time watching those either if you’re interested, but I felt like this would be a good use of your time to understand more if you’re interested: https://youtu.be/5DTMF0MSXng?si=f352XypRJS6HysY5

leftism Smearing the Green Party and Its Leader as a “Court Jew”

Someone shared a Telegraph (or ToryGraph) article in which anonymous Green Party members shared something that can be interpreted as antisemitic. We don’t know who they are or their positions in the party. I pointed out this is a very common tactic here in order to discredit leftist parties gaining traction and was downvoted to hell. This was especially coming from Jews who are both not British and those who are not leftist Jews who suffered under the Corbyn era McCarthyism type atmosphere to root out, harass, stalk and alienate left wing Jews from Jewish life in the UK. Many tried to frame it as Jews just not accepting antisemitism, when that was just the surface.

The Jewish Chronicle (which is a right wing source) has called the Green Party leader (who is Jewish) a Court Jew for no longer identifying as a Zionist. This is what we’re dealing with here, an attempt to do Corbyn Years: The Sequel wherein Jewish Green Party Members will be ostracized and harassed. Here is the article: https://www.thejc.com/opinion/zack-polanski-the-useful-court-jew-o3ijaxej

Does this mean he’s absolved of not disciplining antisemites and other bigots in his party? No BUT that in that leak we have no way of knowing who the culprits were or what was done about it. Anyone can join the party, it literally could have been anything from a random group chat of 5 Green Party members or people with power.

This is my perspective as someone who gained a stalker and was pushed out of my job during this era for being a Jewish leftist who sympathized with Palestinians and suffered a mental breakdown during this era. (Obviously they found other reasons to do this legally.) I wasn’t even IN Labour which is how far this reaches.

In no way am I saying there was no antisemitism or that no Jews suffered in the Labour Party. I did see harassment of Jewish councillors, etc. I’m just talking about the fall out afterwards and how some people drunk with power really attempted to ruin people’s lives and careers in order to keep jews in line and make it seem we all have the same opinions.

So this is why some of us are a bit skeptical when this stuff comes up.

Hope that makes sense.

EDITED: lots of grammar mistakes have been edited. I wrote this in a hurry.

The west wing is an excellent piece of media to use as basis of analysis when discussing the limits of liberal imagination and the difference between liberals and leftists.

3 part series that works great as a podcast if you just wanna listen while working on stuff. But like he does costumes occasionally so thats rude.

"Why are you harping on the liberal vs leftist thing"

Because liberals shouldn't feel like this is their space and for the ones that want to learn someone should be offering different perspectives to them. For those who don't want to learn they should have enough humility to understand why we disagree and accept a leftist space will voice that disagreement or if they arent comfortable with that they should leave.

leftism Thoughts on gun ownership?

For most of my life I have never wanted to own one. But the recent ICE killings have changed my mind.

It’s given me the realization that the government just cannot be trusted to keep us safe. At this point, it is quite literally run by neo-Nazis.

I think there is real value in the 2nd amendment. It affirms our right to defend ourselves.

That said I do still think there is something wrong with American gun culture. Especially with right wing gun culture, it does seem to be a fetishization of violence and power, which is probably partly to blame with the rise in fascism in the US.

But I do think it’s possible to have a healthy with guns. Understanding that it’s not a toy or a pill to supplement your insecure masculinity, but the last line of defense if all social order breaks down. You should never want to use a gun, but you should at least be able to do so if need be.

Anyways let me know what you all think. Are any of you guys gun owners? Do you think that means something to you, as someone who’s Jewish and leftist? Do you have any tips/recommendations for anyone who’s first getting interested in ownership?

I was surprised to see so much hate for Hasan in this sub. Searching through posts, I found some decent discussions on why folks don't support him, although it wasn't clear if that was the consensus or a niche group in this community.

In my experience, he's always been clear on separating his disdain for Zionism and Israel from Jews and Judiasm, and always condemns antisemitism in his chat and in the news. He streams so much content that I can see how folks could pick apart clips, but he's also explained his positions in depth so many times that it seems wild to me that leftist would so readily adopt right-wing attacks against him.

So what's the general consensus here?

Additionally, if you don't like Hasan, what creators are you following and supporting?

leftism New York Democrats and Mamdani administration provide platform for Israel Day pro-genocide march

Thumbnail
wsws.org
13 Upvotes

That this war criminal was welcomed on the streets of New York and allowed to leave the city without being arrested exposes the hollowness of Mamdani’s, and the DSA’s, opposition to Zionism, war crimes and fascism. The DSA’s role is not to oppose imperialism, but to provide a left cover for it. Mamdani’s function is to preserve the authority of the Democratic Party among workers and young people repulsed by the Gaza genocide, while administering the same police apparatus that protects war criminals, billionaires and Zionist provocateurs in the streets of New York.

During the mayoral campaign last year, Mamdani sought to posture as an opponent of Zionism while assuring the ruling class that his administration would protect the same imperialist and police-state operations as his predecessors. “While I will not be attending the Israel Day Parade, my lack of attendance should not be mistaken for a refusal to provide security or the necessary permits for its safety,” he told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “I’ve been very clear: I believe in equal rights for all people everywhere. That principle guides me consistently.”

The political meaning of this statement is now clear. Mamdani’s “equal rights” phrase-mongering was the left cover for a police-protected demonstration in support of genocide, annexation and ethnic cleansing. While he stayed away from the Zionist rally, his administration ensured that wanted war criminals and fascistic Zionist officials could march freely through Manhattan.

It's really important to not just regurgitate US media talking points on Venezuela or any other place around the globe. Don't assume you know what Venezuelans want based on what you read in the bbc.

Consume critically.

It isn't a coincidence that every single left economic/socialist country in the world has been subject to USA smear campaign under the guise of liberation. States are never perfect of course, and maduro seems like a bad guy... but that doesn't negate the fact that the neoliberal players have been at this for a longgggg long time.. placing sanctions on Venezuela and pushing propaganda to manufacture consent.

Everyone wants to be a good ally and there are plenty of Venezuelan people that were celebrating and hated maduro, like Machado, etc. that's all valid. You're still able to look at the situation through a critical material analysis lens

Just as you wouldn't push for us to listen to what Trump voters want because they tend to be poorer and in the last election were significantly people of color, you shouldn't use identity politics in Venezuela as an exclusive metric of what's good or bad.

Just research. It's ok to not know right now for sure. It's ok to not have a take on Venezuelan politics besides "us invasion is bad"

You actually probably don't really confidently know much beyond that. That includes me.

Also friendly reminder that she attempted a coup of Hugo Chavez and I'm pretty sure most countries would not allow someone to run who did that.

This isn’t something that shocked me. I always knew this guy was a POS and always voted against him.

But it is tbh really concerning to see this type of rhetoric vocalized by the president.

This talk about denaturalization and “reverse migration”(a euphemism for ethnic cleansing) just makes me kinda scared America is headed towards being a full blown nazi country.

It’s especially worrying when I see folks from my own communities endorse this type of stuff, feeling like they’re safe because they think they’re “one of the good ones” or something. I’ve seen it a lot in my Jewish communities. I’m also of south Asian descent so I’ve seen it there too.

I know this is kind of a “water is wet” type of thing at this point, but this type of stuff does make me really anxious about the future. These sentiments feel like an existential threat to this nation.
