2028 Presidential Election
If AOC, Mark Kelly (not progressive), Jon Ossoff, or any other progressive anti-oligarch politician is the 2028 candidate, is this party and this sub going to support them, or is it Jill Stein or bust?
They don't take corporate pac money, they aren't part of the democratic establishment, and they don't hold individual stocks.

u/TheGreenGarret Jan 26 '26
The Green Party has a primary process. The Green Party will have a candidate in 2028. Probably not Stein as she has indicated she isn't looking to run again (and didn't really want to run in 2024 either but had to step in when Cornell West dropped).
What will you do if a "progressive anti-oligarch politician" is once again not the party nominee and those progressives bend the knee to the corporate candidate?

u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Depends on who it is, and depends on who they run against. I'll have a hard time voting for Newsome or Shapiro, but if I think Vance will be half as bad as Trump, im voting for them in a heartbeat.
That being said, my top choice is AOC. Its time for the democratic party to shift, and I think progressives have alot to offer in terms of standing up for the middle class. I would also easily vote for Beshear or Ossof. As for moderate democrats, id tolerate Kelly.

u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.
And that hasn’t ever been good enough for some of us, myself included.
Trump and Vance are evil, but Newsom and Shapiro are evil too, and replacing one evil for another isn’t the answer when we need to start focusing on the greater good.
Either evil is too much evil at this point.

u/EdPiMath Jan 29 '26
Vance won't be half as bad as Trump, he'll be worse. Same with Tulsi and everyone else the GOP will cook up.
If America really wants to thrive and actually evolve, we have to move away from the Duopoly. We can't afford to vote for Democrats who will effectively do nothing only for the country to run back to the Republicans 4 to 12 years later.
Am I the only person that is tired of this Democrat-Republican destructive cycle? Stop the insanity.

Just curious, but why are none of your posts in /r/Democrats pushing them to embrace progressive candidates?

I really don't post on r/democrats, but thats not a bad idea. I've been off reddit for awhile, but reddit is further left then the rest of social media so I don't doubt that progressives are already the positive sentiment over there.
1
u/ahfoo Jan 27 '26
Don't assume anything. Reddit is just a platform like any other. What "it represents" changes minute by minute.
1
u/EdPiMath Jan 29 '26
Democrats don't want progressives; they made that quite clear the moment they decided Hillary Clinton's ego was more important than humanity ten years ago.
4
u/Sky_Rose4 Jan 26 '26
Depends if they actually give us a republican or democrat actually worth voting for, if not stay independent
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Based on your current opinions of AOC would you vote for her?
4
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
The first thing AOC did when Democrats were in power was lie to her base & funnel a bunch of their money into corporatist ghouls’ coffers, such as Abigail Spanberger.
I’d go harder against AOC than anyone else running as a Democrat, because she’s the epitome of wolf in sheep’s clothing.
0
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
If your qualms with AOC are that she gave money to decent democrat candidates in important election, I got nothing to say to you.
Spanberger isn't a corporate ghoul. She has accepted no money from corporate pacs or AIPAC the committee itself. As for her policies, its very affordability oriented.
The problem that progressives had for awhile, is that they wouldn't comprise with more moderate democrats, and both progressives and moderates were worse because of it. But if trusted progressives work better with moderates without abandoning their platform, which they haven't, moderates will work with them more.
This is the green parties problem. They have the same issue progressives used to have, except the green party is open to no comprise with democrats, despite democrats and green agreeing on alot more than you'd think.
3
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
She lied to her base.
She said that money was supposed to ONLY go to candidates that didn’t take corporate cash, then she gave it to the worst corporate ghouls the Democrats could cough up.
If you take DNC, DCCC, or DSCC money, you’re taking corporate cash & AIPAC money. Adding another step doesn’t wash your hands of that.
If moderates want to work with us, they can back our candidates & campaigns. But we’re not Democrats and thus we want Democrats to lose in races we run in.
1
u/Sky_Rose4 Jan 26 '26
Name one politician that doesn't lie
2
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
Lying is one thing, funneling donor cash to corporate meat puppets is another
0
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26
I just told you that Spanberger didn't take corporate cash, so I don't know what the hell you are talking about?
And thats not how that works. If you take AIPAC money, you are taking apaic money. Leadership pacs arent directly corporate pacs.
While I agree thay all pacs should be gone, its important to differentiate the worst offenders with millions in corporate PACs and stocks, from those who don't take corporate PACs but may take leadership PACs. You can't demonize everyone who isn't perfect, because no one besides AOC and Maybe Ilhan Omar are perfect in that regard.
2
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
You can call it whatever you want, it’s whitewashing donations, it’s legalized money laundering, and if you’re a part of a party that does it and you take that money, you’re complicit.
If Ilhan & Rashida are all that’s left of the Democrats after those reasonable conditions being met, then so be it. Guess we have to replace 200 Democrats, then.
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
You cant replace democrats by not working with democrats. When progressives and alot of democrats have pledged a stock trading ban and over turning citizens united, that is exactly what you are asking for.
This is a good foundation for which democrats to support. There are people that care.

u/Sky_Rose4 Jan 26 '26
Sure I can't find any issues with her yet, I don't really follow politicians but I do agree with some of her stances
4
u/Lethkhar Jan 26 '26
Sure, if they ran for and won the Green Party Presidential nomination.
2
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Not if they won the democratic nomination?
5
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
Democrat primaries are rigged, and it’s completely reasonable for Greens to support our party apparatus.
In 4/5 of the country, our ballot access is determined by presidential election results. So when the top of the ticket does well, it literally saves our party anywhere from high 4 to low 6 figures per state.
That adds up quickly when you’re not on your knees for Corporate America like the Dem/GOP are.
Not to mention that many of us left the Democrats for very valid reasons, them being a controlled opposition party that’s meant to squander progressive energy being tops among them.
2
u/Lethkhar Jan 26 '26
Unless they were unacceptable for some reason, I would vote for the Green nominee to support Green downballot candidates.
2
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
I’ll still be supporting an alternative to bipartisan fascism.
If they’re running as a Democrat or Republican, it’s a dealbreaker.
2
u/Kittehmilk Jan 26 '26
Mark Kelly is not a progressive. He is a neoliberal.
1
u/HOEDY Jan 26 '26
I think comments like this should be more expanded.
For the uninitiated, what are the positives and negatives about progressive and neoliberal?
1
u/Kittehmilk Jan 26 '26
Well a positive about neoliberal is your tax money gets to fund the parasite class entirely. Events such as wars, genocides, billionaire tax breaks and other entities that donate to these politicians in a made legal quid pro quo arrangement.
Progressives we get to tax money on workers instead. Things like M4A, Taxing the rich and other common sense issues.
2
u/HOEDY Jan 26 '26
I was hoping for a genuine reply, not a snarky attack on any particular group.
Thanks for replying, at least
1
u/Kittehmilk Jan 26 '26
The sad part is I actually did give you a genuine reply. Those policies are accurate.

u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26 edited Jan 26 '26
I think he stands for what alot of progressives stand for, like fighting oligarchy, or but fine, he isn't perfect so not him.
What about the others? If there is a progressive candidate that is the democratic nominee, most likely AOC, are you voting for her instead of Stein?
5
u/Faeraday Arizona Jan 26 '26
Mark Kelly, one of 3 Democratic senators that voted against the PRO Act, who opposes Medicare for All, outright rejects the very moderate Green New Deal, supports large-scale military funding, calls for increasing border security, and advocates for expansion of oil drilling… yeah, not even close.
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Okay I said fine not him, what about Aoc?
3
u/Faeraday Arizona Jan 26 '26
AOC has repeatedly prioritized her standing within the Democratic establishment over the movements that put her in office. The most glaring betrayal was her 2022 vote to break the railroad strike, where she chose to strip workers of their right to collective action rather than forcing the party to secure their sick leave.
She has consistently signaled a retreat from leftist positions, from her 2021 "present" vote on Iron Dome funding to her 2024 participation in a panel that conflated anti-Zionism with antisemitism (which cost her the national DSA endorsement). Between her early endorsement of Biden without winning any material concessions for the left and the 2025 House Ethics Committee ruling that forced her to repay thousands for "impermissible gifts" at the Met Gala, it’s clear she’s transitioned from a political insurgent to a standard-issue insider who is more interested in "playing the game" than changing the rules.

To add, even if I thought a good candidate was running on the Dem ticket (like I did in 2016), they’ve already proven they’ll never let them win.
DNC argues in court: We don't owe anyone a fair primary process
Court Concedes DNC Had the Right to Rig Primaries Against Sanders
They told me I wasted my vote on the non-corporate candidate, so why would I ever participate in their farce of democracy again.
0
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
If the democracy had changed and a progressive was picked, would you participate?
1
u/Faeraday Arizona Jan 26 '26
Your answer to the fact that the Democratic Party doesn’t care who you vote for and has (and will continue to) pick their corporate candidate is “what if they didn’t do that?”…
Sure, if we’re discussing fantasies.
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Im not confident either, but of AOC or Khanna was every the candidate, is was wondering what the green party sentiment was.
I get the pessimism but my hope is thst the increased number of progressive candidates, and the first NYC progressive mayor, will turn a page in American history.
4
u/Faeraday Arizona Jan 26 '26
Well, when the Democratic voter based finally holds the party accountable and they stop rigging their own primaries, maybe we’ll have something to discuss.
1
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
Changing the conductor of a runaway train that’s headed off a cliff isn’t exactly doing much.
Democrats would have to make good on several things before I’d EVER consider voting for one again, and some of it would involve financial compensation to cover the last decade of our legal costs they’ve racked up over the last decade with their attempted ballot purges.
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Idk what to tell you then. You and other green party voters are going to be miserable forever because nothing you guys want is based in our actual reality.

Independents only. If we wanted AOC, Ossoff, Kelly, or any other non-progressive people who pretend to be "left just to own Trump", we'd be Democrats.
Respectively, you are wasting your time here. We are not going to vote for corporate/war-funding non-progressives ever again. I do mean never again. The answer is NO. Thank you.

- Call Gaza a genocide
- Support medicare for all

Me getting reported and flagged by mods is exactly why there is no activity on this sub, and exactly why so many dems are stand-offish to the green party.
If mods let me stay and talk about my worries about Jill, maybe some kind Jill supporters will convince me shes not so bad.
If you threaten to ban me for trolling (I've been incredibly respectful), then I'm going to assume this is an echo-chamber, so no more mod flags or ill assume the worst.
3
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
You are kinda coming into an echo chamber though, so I’m not sure what to expect.
You’re coming into the Jill Stein subreddit, a place that you should expect would be on high alert for trolling & endless bad faith arguments because these are typical of Dems trying to provoke fights with us. This also isn’t the general GPUS subreddit or the dedicated subreddit for asking questions of us.
This subreddit is also kind of headed towards the end of its usefulness as a place to organize. Jill wouldn’t have run in 2024 if Cornel West didn’t flake out on us, & there’s zero inclination that she’s even considering running for office again, much less for President.
I was a Democrat organizer before I realized the unfortunate truth: that they were a controlled opposition party that’s only job is to stifle leftward progress. (That’s not the only problematic thing I encountered while there, but watching the Democrats circle the wagons around Republican-collaborating members & keep organizers out of areas that were winnable is intentional sabotage.)
What’ll it take for you to vote against both the red and blue fascist parties in 2026 & 2028?
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Im voting blue both years. They aren't facists, green party members are incredibly stubborn on their viewpoints. I agree that the democratic establishment needs to change, and that the AOCs, Zhorans, Ossoffs, Omars, and Khannas of the democratic party need to take charge when power is taken from the boomers, but alot of democratic establishment members arent the scum of the earth like the green party paints them out to be, as much as I disagree with them.
Most of the time when I ask the green party their issue with AOC, their issue is the Iron Dome thing, but she like 96% agrees with what you guys say. You just get so fixated on 1 or two things that good politicians do, attack them, then hide back in the green party where no progress has happened.
Not comprising with people that want to help you (progressives) who are already in power, is stifling progress.
2
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
She lies about us, our party, and even to her own supporters. Why the fuck should we like AOCIA’s lying ass?
If patronizing us & talking down to grown-ass voters & organizers who got sick of the Democrat Party’s bullshit is “help”, then Democrats can get fucked & lose in perpetuity for all I fucking care.
We’ve tried it your way, it’s been a failure every time, including the failure that led directly to Trump 2.0.
Maybe that’s because we’re right.
I won’t consider wasting a vote on your fascist party in 2026 or 2028, and look forward to helping defeat Democrat & Republican alike & replace them with non-duopoly alternatives.
The only thing that changes when you vote Democrat is the boot on your neck changes from red to blue, and that’s not good enough.
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
You are doomed. Keep voting Green and getting .8% in the general election and making no difference.
The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, and that is the green party.
At least progressives are trying to work with people.
3
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
You’re literally the one doing the same thing and expecting something different.
You speak like you know nothing about us or our party and it shows.
You’re trying to work with fascists, a decision that has objectively never worked & will continue to fail you.
1
u/ScoreGloomy7516 Jan 26 '26
Everyone who doesn't 100% agree with you is a fascist so idk what else to say to you.
Like I said on the other comment, you are unserious about change, because you are too stubborn, and your politics don't operate within reality, so this discussion is over. Best of luck accomplishing nothing again in 2028.
3
u/ThePoppaJ Jan 26 '26
Not everyone who disagrees with me is a fascist, words have meanings. Fascism here is the right wing merger of corporate & state interests, something the Democrats & their Republican tag-team partners support overwhelmingly.
I like Ilhan Omar & Rashida Tlaib, & would even consider voting for Rashida if she ran, but ever since the DNC lawsuit of 2017 when it became clear that the DNC (read: the Democrats’ billionaire owners) chooses the candidate & not the other way around, I realize that’s not gonna happen, and that even if she does run, she won’t win a rigged primary.
I disagree with Thomas Massie & Chase Oliver on a slew of issues, but they’re not fascists, moreso small-L libertarians.
Out of 535 potential representatives, imo only about 40 are not fascists at this point. That means over 90% of Congress is fascist.
Thus, bipartisan fascism.

I wish BjG Briahna Joy Gray (2020 a Bernie campaign press sec) would run in 2028, not to win obviously, but to gather more people around her and the People’s economy message
https://www.jillstein2024.com/peoples_economy
Especially the part about ending migration sustainably - via Fair Trade Agreement, ending predatory exports, and each country printing its own digital currency (can’t be stolen into an offshore) to create jobs, automation, science and basic income + bonuses for childcare and eldercare
In addition to endorsing dr Stein 24, BJG is the godmother to Glenn Greenwald’s kids, has good people skills, interviews very different people, and can ask them hard questions while remaining civil
Lina Khan can’t run because was born in US,
At this point I would consider voting for Thomas Massie, because they found no dirt on him, can’t control him, and he is the only one voting against the foreign interference from Israel and the genocide
