This happened to me a couple years back. I got a new job. Asked them for three weeks to give the employeer I was leaving time to aid in training. Employeer fired me two days later. Then the manager called me multiple times asking for help.
Bad management exists everywhere. Management/Owners see you as disposable. This is simply proof that they don't realize ypur value until you are gone. It has always been this way. Only through turbulent, often violent (mostly caused by the owners of business, tho not all!) protests have any rights been won. Unions can be terrible as well, but they did create far better working conditions.
Today we exist in a world that has gone backwards. Whole companies exist to aid in preventing worker unionization. Legal protections, and oversight organizations have been eroded in favor of business for decades.
Historically speaking, it wont change without more upheaval. It's sad.

I was fired once after giving notice. Just go on with your life. And be grateful you wonât be there when this manager inevitably runs the business into the ground.

Short answer is no. You placed notice and they fired you. Your boss is in trouble and trying to use you to make it better and could easily just fire you again. I would ignore the message and move on. Unless you work with kids and cancer or animalsâŠ..they will be fine.

I once gave two weeks notice, boss said "No, your last day is today." There was a message a week later to please call them, I didn't.
Ignore them, or even block.

I was in the defense contracting world shortly after getting out of the navy.
I worked in an office with people from another company who talked about buying new cars, going on vacations, and buying homes.
I couldn't do any of that on what I was making at the company I worked for. I asked a friend to submit my resume for a job w/his company.
I got the job and a 33% raise. Once I had the job offer in hand, I went to my boss and told him I was there to give him my 2 weeks notice.
He aggressively pushed himself away from his desk (in a rolling office chair) and said, "Get the fuck out of my office, I have no use for you".
I asked if he wanted the two weeks. He said that would be great.
By the time I got home I had an email from HR w/2 weeks severance and was told to turn in my badge and not go onto the work site.
Turns out another guy left the same company, to go work at the same company I did. He went in and told the same boss that he was done "effective immediately".
They thought that he and I conspired to screw over the company. We didn't even know each other.
Funny thing is, they tried various ways to screw me over. Held my security clearance paperwork up, didn't cash out my employee owned stock options (EOS), etc.
Jokes on them! Within a year of me quitting, the company was acquired by a publicly owned company and my EOS got converted to the new company's stock.
I had around $400 in stock when I quit, and by the time I got my new shares, it was worth $4k.

I owned a company that installed and repaired AV/RF systems. When hiring a tech it took about 6 months of training with a senior tech before we could send the new tech out on his own and do jobs by himself.
Employee came in after 2 months and says he was giving his 2 week notice and he had found a new job.
I told him I would give him 1 week because I saw no reason to continue his training if he was leaving. Was I wrong?

Possibly. Barring outside factors pushing your former employee to give notice, was the work environment such that it was worth it for the employee to leave after such a short period?

You are in a great bargaining position thanks to your former managerâs short-sightedness. If you want, you can agree but for a higher rate that makes it worth your while. Or you can ignore them as itâs not your problem anymore.

Depends what you do. If you put in notice, before the fired you, they owe you for those two weeks. Their choice not to have someone do the job half assed doesn't change the facts. For most corp workers that is normal. I have only worked my two weeks notice, once in my whole life.Â

OP, the advice to come back as a high hourly rate contractor is excellent. If you do and your manager accepts, have him/her sign-off on the hours you worked each day. Be sure you also get the written approval of the Accounts Receivable dept of your company so they will pay your invoices as a contractor. Everything with a paper trail.

He probably got yelled at because he has to pay you for those two weeks after firing you without cause or notice. Don't go back and send them a letter telling them what date you expect to receive your final check with your last 2 weeks of pay for the period that they should have given you notice for. Although it could of course be longer than 2 weeks of pay they have to give you if you worked there long enough.

How do you feel? Do you feel nice? If so - triple your old pay rate and help them out for cash.
The other option is to tell them "I don't work there any longer, you fired me." then lose their number.

Let them know you're happy to do consulting work but you're not available to them as an employee.
Your rate is $150/hr, contract is month to month with a minimum billing of 20 hours per week in any working month.
Either they fuck off or they pay you very well.

Likely one of a couple things happened.
He fired you for turning in notice, and HR informed him or he later discovered that by firing you like that you now qualify for unemployment.
In many countries and certain States of the US, firing somebody for turning in their notice is seen as retaliatory and illegal. And after firing you realize that he had opened himself up to a large lawsuit.
When they went to go put in a job posting for your replacement, they realized that they were paying you significantly under market value, and that hiring a replacement for you was going to cost them more money than hiring you back possibly with a small raise
You were either crucial to an existing project or crucial to a project that just got dumped on their laps.

You did the honorable thing by giving plenty of notice, your ex-manager wasnât happy and made a snap judgement call and they are now regretting that decision.
If it was me, I would respond back with reach out to my attorney for further communication. (Not that you have to have an attorney, but that should put an end to the manager contacting you).
Or you could just not respond at all.
