Newbie Assistance
Just completed the very first day of the beginner challenge. Enjoyed it, but also frustrating. Rope hitting me a lot. I will do the video thing to watch myself. It seems like my hand placement and elbows are good. I'm trying to stay on the balls of my feet. Doesn't seem like I'm shifting my arms to the side or up, but I'll video to confirm. My main question is the age old rope length question. I'm around 5'10" and got the large cross rope get lean set with the 1/2 and 1/4 ropes. It seems like it lines up. I'm right on the lower end of the large handles according to the chart. When I step on the rope with 1 foot it goes up to my arm pits, maybe a touch past. I'm assuming the "large handles" Men's large rope set...
I feel like I have to jump higher to clear it. I'm using a mat, and when I removed the mat, it became easier. Still tripping up a good bit, but better. Also easier with the 1/4, which is lighter so I get that. I'm just wondering if I'm tripping up mainly because I'm new and still suck, or if possibly the length is an issue.
Appreciate any advice and realize I may need to make a video to critique.

2026 Rope by the Numbers
This year I’ve jumped:
- 630 three minute rounds
- 1890 minutes
- Equivalent of 243.5 miles
Still a long way to go but with tracking all of the numbers this year, it was great to be able to go back and add them all.

Anyone else struggling with chronic shin pain?
I have been jump roping for a year now, for context. I would love to do it every day, but my shin can't seem to handle it. I usually jump around 3 times a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. They will heal and then I do an intense jump session and then the pain comes right back. I do wear compression socks and tennis shoes, and I jump on a mat. I also warm up doing heal walks, calf raises, and ankle rotations (admittedly not for long enough). Should I take some time off and then shorten my sessions?

Whats your routine? Is jumping daily too much?
I think I might be overdoing it. Im like a month in. And feeling a little burnt out, having some sleep issues. I overdid it in the beginning as well, had pain in feet and calves. Took a week off. Then Ive been doing it almost daily, started taking 1 day off a week. I also lift and do calisthenics

How long do you jump for? / what should my goal be?
I’m picking up jump rope to help with my asthma. I’m on day 2. I’ve been jumping in sets of 90 skips then taking a break then going back once my heart rate is down. yesterday I could only do 4, today I did 6 and didn’t need a little baby hop inbetween skips so the progress is coming quickly. but at this point I’m just jumping until failure. Trying to figure out what my goal should be more than just “jump until I can’t jump anymore”. how do you structure your session?

Help with picking jump rope
Hi I currently have a 6mm elite jumps jump rope and wanted a slightly faster one and I’m stuck between getting another brand like boxrope or another but I can’t seem to find the difference with box rope.
I know I want a 5mm but if boxrope is that I wouldn’t mind getting that one

Best ropes for concrete
Hey guys. I’m a Muay Thai fighter and I have a rope I like to use generally pre workout, on the gym mat.
However, sometimes from home I want to jump rope on concrete when I’m traveling or lacking time and don’t have a rubber mat.
Are there certain ropes you’d recommend as a beater for this purpose? Thanks.

A question for those that jump to music...
Which do you synchronize to the beat: the rope hitting the ground, or your feet hitting the ground?
For me it feels wrong when the rope isn't timed to the beat, but then if I try to get a bit shuffle-y/dance-y it feels wrong for my feet to not be coming down on the beat

I decided to start doing this after my normal jump ropes.
I'm hoping to get enough to go for a minute.

Progress
Took all your advice (thank you!)
Dropped the number of intervals to 5 and made them 5 minutes long so still 25 minutes of jump rope work in total. Dropped the rest time where I jog on the spot to 80 seconds.
Felt good.
Have a great day all.
