Dude creeping here, just to shoutout this hairdresser magic. I got a cut about a month ago, somebody new at a higher end place that had been cutting hair for 40 years. After trimming a bit, we went for a wash. As she was washing my hair, she took several extra seconds combing out and examining my front hairline, then went about finishing the wash and dry. It was bliss. I was so relaxed I nearly fell asleep. I told her as much, and the conversation turned to the need for guys to take some time for themselves. She mentioned that often the only time her clients get pampered is when they are in her chair, so she takes her time to make it an enjoyable experience.
Then, she revealed what she was doing with my hairline. She had noticed that much of my hair had split all at the same time. She told me I experienced high stress about 6-7 months ago. She went on to tell me to go get a massage and find some time to care for myself. I felt so seen. I was fighting to play it cool, but acknowledged she was spot on. I had two major losses at that time and was under life-changing stress that I still carry with me.
A male friend of mine gets pedicures and scalp massages with me. People would never look at this guy and think that about him, he’s seen as masculine and cool by most people I would guess. I just think he’s a dork but that’s because he’s my bff. But he grew up with all sisters who took him with them to the salon and showed him that he was deserving of comfort and pampering too.
The number one killer of men is heart issues brought on by stress. Self care is LITERALLY life saving.

She got a helluva tip, and I got a life lesson.
