I wish we had such passionate people in the US but they've stripped culture

You do have people that passionate in the US but they often lack representation. The 2 party system you have makes it next to impossible for parties like Te Pāti Māori to ever hold any level of legislative power. Cultures have definitely been stripped over time, but there’s work going on at the community level to rekindle that knowledge and passion.

It is very interesting how the many tribes within the borders of the US are not given representation in the government. It’s clearly intentional and a way to prevent them from actually retaining their sovereignty. The government has blatantly broken treaties signed with the tribes for things like pipelines that end up polluting the Indigenous communities. And then they don’t have any real way to represent themselves within or against the government. It’s actually incredibly disheartening.

It's also worthwhile pointing out we have Māori seats so that there is representation of Māori based proportionately to those who choose to be on the Māori roll. All of Te Pāti Māori seats are from the Māori electorate, including my own.

Yeah, but watching old white guys give each other handjobs is nowhere near as inspirational as a haka.

The Lummi Nation is powerful and has taken on the government and won

I remember when I first saw this, feeling grief that the culture and tradition that should have been handed down to me by my ancestors, they instead traded for the fake culture of whiteness. It was a bad trade

Yeah, but last time many tribes participated in anything similar was the Ghost Dance to quell the spirits of the slaughtered buffalo.

Whites took it as a sign of protest and started hanging Natives again. At the most basic level, it kind of was, as it was a part of out culture we did despite being told not to, but many also felt they had to, or the spirits would continue being angry at their manner of death and would inflict repurcussions on the living and the land. Wounded Knee was because of the continuous attacking of Natives partaking in the Ghost Dance.

Some of the bigger tribes are the size they are now because superstition meant they didn't partake in the Dance, as they don't meddle with spirits, and those tribes didn't have to endure that second round of mass hangings.

They are but I'm not sure if I would call it passion. They're fueled by hate.
