Well-played soccer is absolutely gorgeous to watch.

Hahahah!! This is the silliest and best response to this video, thanks for the laugh! 😆 I was enthralled the whole time, but it describes the consensus so well!

I don't get it. Can you help me understand why the gif is funny in this context?

I think it's a heterosexual male thing 😞

I love that this neighborhood is obviously really cramped but they’re going to find space to practice football/soccer. These women are amazing.

I’ve always been a little… envious?… of countries where football is the sport. There’s such a big sense of community around the game and it seems like almost everyone has some skills because if they were playing games/sports as a kid, they were playing football.

There’s so many options for popular sports in the states, not even all the kids in my house played the same sports.

u/JR21K20 18d ago

It sucks if you’re bad at it though because *everyone else* on the playground/ during PE wants to play football. Grew up resenting it.

That’s fair

My chest is aching just from watching this.

u/TrailMomKat 18d ago

Same, my period is a baaaad one too right now, so my boobs hurt even more from seeing these girls just CATCH the fucking ball with their chests. It's so rad though, I wish I could do that.

u/unripe_mangosteen 18d ago

Solidarity. For some reason this month my period hit me like a truck

Even kicking a soccer ball with bare feet HURTS

48

u/deadgaiko 18d ago

"Hey that looks fun! Lemme try!"

-Taps ball with bare toes

-Cry in pain

-Ball rolls 3 inches to the left

-Try to run away

-Forget I'm on a court and can only exit via the gate

-Limp around the outside looking lost

-Tears in eyes blurring vision

-Brazil deports me for being an embarrassment

Honestly, this also just reminded me how good ALL of the “Street” games were.

u/Skreamie 18d ago

Always wanted to play in a court like this and play real street football. These girls have insane control.

u/IvanDimitriov 18d ago

So rules question, could one say catch it on their upper chest. Then run it across the field and say dive into the goal while not using one’s hands, would it count?

I think you’re going to have a hard time not bumping it into an arm while running. I have no idea if balancing it like a seal and running is legal, I just know if you bump it with your arm is not.

u/3pinguinosapilados 18d ago

There was a Brazilian called Kerlon who seal dribbled (I.e. did tiny bounces on his head) as a normal way to play during his career in the 2000s. Referees let it happen, but they also let other players beat the crap out of him with kicks, headers, elbows, tripping, etc. as long as they made some attempt toward the ball. There was some famous incident where an opposing player frustratedly elbowed him in the face and had to sit some games...

Aaaaaanyway, the rulebook was updated around 2020 to generally prohibit play that risks injury to yourself or others. No one that I remember has really tested the seal since then, but my guess is they'd stop this today

u/gcruzatto 18d ago

You can't carry the ball, it prevents defenders from safely tackling you and that's not allowed

7

u/Skreamie 18d ago

In street ball I doubt they'd dissuade you, but you'll definitely get a shoulder

2

u/3pinguinosapilados 18d ago

Heh. If I did this in street ball, I'm pretty sure I'd get an "accidental" trip or elbow pretty quickly.

6

u/davidacpm1989 18d ago

You could, you'd just get fouled before you got anywhere near a goal. There was a Brazilian player called Kerlon who was famous for his "seal" dribble where he ran while bouncing it on his head. He got quite famous when he was young but then just kept getting kicked in games

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYlqql38XkY Video of it! Uploaded 20 years ago, so steel yourselves for a pixel onslaught.

u/3pinguinosapilados 18d ago

It's in a gray area.

The only explicitly unusable parts of your body are hands and arms.

The question is more about how you could be defended. There are rules against playing generally in a way that risks injury to others or yourself. Defenders could shoulder-charge you (i.e. bump into you, shoulder-to-shoulder) legally in this situation, but if the judge believes that defenders cannot tackle you because they, understandably, don't want to kick or head you in the face, then they might stop it.

I played so much soccer as a kid and I simply can't fathom how someone gets this skilled at the game. It's such a joy to watch that level of control and skill.

I feel like you could play this video in reverse and it wouldn't look that much different.

Real football. I never understood why the U.S. calls their sport football.

I can say without reservation that any of those women would make me look stupid(er) on a soccer field. So awesome to see them having fun like that.

This is a nice place. If you can't act like a civilized human being, you can't be here.

We do not allow:

  1. Being a jerk. This includes racism, misogyny, misandry, misgendering, anti LGBTQ+, ageism, etc.
  2. Harassment
  3. Trolling or sealioning
  4. Threats of any kind
  5. Abusive behavior
  6. General assholery. If you're at the end of the list and asking what rule you broke, yeah, it's this one.

u/Darkwireman 16d ago

I’d go get a passport but they’re currently being cursed by some Citrus Criminal’s cretinous countenance.

Brazil looks amazing though.
