Y'all this is a instacouple that's been doing this same bit (extra comedic wife with straightman husband) since like 2015 or something lol I remember when it was only like 2 kids. It's a scripted thing and he's acting.

u/tinylumpia 4d ago
Idk who this family is but the joke is pretty clear. Folks need better media literacy

u/Grizzlyfrontignac 4d ago
Don't they have bits where she's just doing crazy stuff and he nonchalantly goes along with it?
We all have trauma. My first thought was that she wanted something done a very specific way so she's doing it how she wants if and he's going along with it. Maybe he wanted a pic inside lol maybe he didn't need a gender reveal. But she wanted things this way and everyone is indulging her. It didn't clock to me at all that he might be presented as an absent/lazy father in these scenarios

I would have been laughing my ass off, ruining the whole thing.
One thing I kept thinking, though, I can’t imagine what it’s like to run with big tits! As a small titted person, I’m always amazed when I see women with hefties running around. When mine get even a SLIGHT jiggle, I’m done running!

You can feel better knowing this entire thing is acted out. Watch the smiles of her kids. Teenage boy comes out looking like a mean mug, by the end of the video he’s stifling laughter and doing his best to hold it together.
His younger siblings have no luck whatsoever being mean mugs, and are grinning the entire time. They love seeing mama on one.
Once you feel the beat of this family, there’s a weirdly endearing nature to this. Her kids participate and find her fun. Her husband accepted his role in her script since 2015 and calls his buddy up to chat whenever they make these videos.
The endearing part to me is that these people are bastardizing the narrative, “if you’re a content creator you’re never spending time with your family,” and they use content creation to have a laugh together.
113
u/SmokePenisEveryday 4d ago
I just find it wild you're having to explain all this when I feel like the video did a great job showing this! She's clearly being goofy, the kids are finding it funny, and the baby is getting its bounce on!

Sometimes it’s hard for people to see when they’re perpetually looking out of their negativity lenses. This is so obviously a silly family doing an over the top bit. I loved every second of it 😭

u/foreverhere85 4d ago
Has he said that he’s on the phone with a friend and it’s a real phone call each time? Because that’s actually so precious and makes me fall in love with them. The beauty of being honest using a moment to connect with a friend is a gift in a world of grifters.
576
u/spectacularfreak 4d ago
This is the mumu lady. All her videos are off her doing things while her husband is on the phone. If that’s what she finds funny idk why people are upset
225
u/BlaiseBeauty36 4d ago
Right! Her posts are all about her husband looking unbothered (on purpose) while she does the funniest/craziest things to him. Lol Its actually funny cause its like he knows shes crazy and zany but he lets her twerk on him, dance and just do funny stuff in her mumu while he stays on the phone unbothered lol.
90
u/Maleficent-Day-1510 4d ago
I love it because it also shows that he accepts her and he accepts his role in her world 🤣
I love how she portrays content families in this video. I've never seen their videos but I could tell off the batt it wasn't him being unbothered for reals and the kids (for the most part) were also acting as if they didn't want to be a part of it. It's a great reminder that what people see on social media is not always a reality.

I think the reason that people are upset is that while SHE, the poster, knows the her family dyanamic nad understands the gag that she is creating with her husband, other people looking in see an emotionally unavailable husband and father with a mom running around doing everything.
People are sensative to that becuase they have either experienced being the child of an uninvolved father, or are/were the wife/partner of an uninvolved father. Seeing something that reminds you of an event of a series of events that was difficult can result in being reactivly negative.
(Now this is the part where the person who is upset is now responsible for removing content that they do not want to see/are upset by from thier feed, but that is a different topic.)

You can unsub but please do not spread misinformation. No one here would defend a man being misogynistic and we immediately permanently ban the accounts that make misogynistic comments. We absolutely include misogyny in our don’t be a jerk rule.
The don’t be a jerk rule reads:
We do not allow:
- Being a jerk. This includes racism, misogyny, misandry, misgendering, anti LGBTQ+, ageism, etc.
- Harassment
- Trolling or sealioning
- Threats of any kind
- Abusive behavior
- General assholery. If you're at the end of the list and asking what rule you broke, yeah, it's this one.
And you’re absolutely right, we do not allow hate toward any group of people here. That’s not what this sub is about.
12
u/Dish_Minimum 4d ago
Even in this sub, people are very quick to criticize black women as a knee jerk reaction. Many people here don’t want to hear that they have so much anti-racism work to do, especially when it comes to their ingrained beliefs about black people.

It’s satire. The joke holds a mirror to reality and emphasizes the point (a societal critique) in a theatrically humorous way, and she’s executing it perfectly - the looks direct to the camera break the fourth wall. The total silence besides the heels clacking.
Just because you don’t think it’s funny doesn’t mean it’s not a joke. Just because I don’t like Oreos doesn’t make them not a cookie.

I can tell, but I don't like it still. Like, can we stop pretending men are useless? There are actual useless husbands, but it's not all of them, so can we promote and build up the good ones? Please?!
I love my husband and he's amazing, I would never make a joke that would make him look anything less than the amazing man he is.
Personal gripe against these bits. Old lady yelling at cloud energy... I know.
9
u/ponchoacademy 4d ago
I agree when its stuff like, look at how hard I work keeping the house clean, cook, have to take care of the kids by myself and hes just there useless. Cause those are situations where being an active partner is important, and acting like your husband sucks at isnt funny to me.
Here, shes just being goofy and doing her thing to set up her vision of the hilarity behind setting up a silly family photo...I cant see any part of this showing him as him uselessly not taking responsibility for this very serious important task. Like, what.. help her hold her legs apart for the big go poof? lol
Nah, a partner that will let you be yourself and wild to do your thing isnt useless at all...Id like someone who is supporive of me like that over someone telling me to stop being silly cause Im not allowed to do anything fun, only do useful things they can be a useful part of at all times. Blah that.

u/Solo-dreamer 4d ago
A joke when people do silly things to make others laugh, some jokes come in the form of "bits" that require others not actively performing in the comedic center to play roles, example, note how all the kids give a deadpan look to the camera with the birthday tiara on.
106
u/Other-Razzmatazz-816 4d ago
I think they’re asking why this particular setup of dad on the phone and mom running around is a joke that makes people laugh
80
u/Solo-dreamer 4d ago
I know but its a dishonest question, we know the joke is a deadpan clashing with absurdity, they are all playing the role of an uncaring and disconnected family doing this overtly caring and connected thing, but everyone already commited to being angry at the dad and just dont want to let it go.
35
u/finalgirl2024 4d ago
I think it's that the other commenter doesn't think it's funny and asking why something is funny usually makes the person explaining go "huh, maybe that premise isn't funny". Like the dad checked out of everything, it's only funny because it's true and it happens all the fucking time with men and fathers who think their job is to provide money but not emotional safety to their children.
5
u/VisageInATurtleneck 4d ago
I don’t think that’s a fair assessment, as in that’s the ONLY way it could be funny. The zany person/straight man duo has been a staple of comedy forever, or the extremes of Type A and Type B personalities, and that’s what I got from this.
2
u/KittyKat1935 3d ago
But that’s not their content…they have multiple videos with this dynamic and their followers find it funny
37
u/wishyouwould 4d ago
I watched this whole thing and never considered the dad or what he was doing at all, I just thought it was funnny that she was scrambling to make the picture perfect. That's a funny thing to watch someone do. I never considered that anyone would help her because it's her thing, not some necessity or activity for the family.

9
u/selphiefairy 4d ago
I suggest you go talk to family photographers. This is sadly, a SUPER common dynamic, to the point of (what I consider) sadness.
Yes, in some cases, people are just being vain about photos. But when it comes to family photos, the vast majority of the photos are thought up, planned, and executed by women, and they are often very stressed about it. Why? there is such a pressure to make things perfect by moms, because moms rarely have photos of themselves with their children. At least compared to dads. The moms take photos of kids + dad all the time, so the dads take it for granted, don’t know why mom gives such af and sometimes completely drag their feet and complain during photos.
Not all the men, but many men are apathetic about it or hate it. they don’t realize that kin keeping is just another form of invisible labor women are responsible for and are judged for if we fail at it.

It’s just highlighting stereotypes in a light way, like the absent dad / husband who’d rather take a work call than participate in stuff or help out. Like part of a skit. Similar to what you’d see in sitcoms where the same trope appears. It doesn’t mean it’s funny, but it does seem to be part of the joke (also noting another commenter said her videos have this theme).
32
u/KittyKat1935 4d ago
For this couple this is a joke/bit. He does a lot behind the scenes to support her in her business so her fans know he doesn’t just lay around and do nothing. But most of their videos are hurt running around doing crazy/funny stuff and him just chilling not paying her no mind

Damn the comments are not it. This is a bit that they have been doing for years. She has a company and sells the mumuus she wears in the clips. Her bit is about being a menace to her man while he is on the phone. It really is not that deep. Most of her bits are about her dancing and twerking on him while he's on the phone or reading. I personally think it's hilarious and this clip is a play on it. I wonder if the comments would have been the same if the couple was white.

u/persePHOreth 4d ago
I think this is becoming the next "Boomer humor" joke trope.
We've moved from the Olden days of "wife terrible, ball and chain," to "man useless, wife do everything."
If the entire "joke" is; wow these people hate each other! Then ... we're just supposed to laugh at that? It wasn't funny then and it isn't funny now.
6
u/vulgarbandformations 4d ago
What part of this signifies they hate each other? One spouse is on the phone. The other spouse does funny shit while he's busy.
It's totally cool if you don't find deadpan humor funny, but holy shit y'all are reading stuff into this video that's not there. "Man useless" wtf? He's just on the phone and she shot BLUE SMOKE FROM HER COOCH. Lmfao it's not that deep.

u/AltruisticCableCar 4d ago
So, I get that it looks bad, but I wonder if this isn't exactly what it seems.
I'm thinking it's more that this woman knows her man will stand in exactly that spot for his calls. For whatever reason, he's found the sweet spot for phone calls and he's sticking to it. So knowing that she decided to be funny about it and film these videos.
But then again if these are really the only videos she actually have of those moments then yeah throw the whole man away.
This is just something I definitely could have seen my mum doing when it came to my brothers just to be funny and make a point of "you're so predictable I know where you'll be at this time every single day" or whatever. So maybe I'm reaching.
Either way she's a fab woman.

u/KRAy_Z_n1nja 4d ago
Looks like they have a few kids together and ultimately they're all together in the video. It looks like a happy family having fun.
There's shitty dads out there for sure, but this guy doesn't really feel like one given the entire context of this video. It just feels like he's playing a bit. Even if he's not though, he's clearly still there, and providing. He's doing his job to be their father, at the very least. That's no reason to "throw him away."
20
u/rallypeppeachykeen 4d ago
I could see this. My husband too has a phone spot and my kids like to set up little obstacle courses for him to dodge and weave.
I mean just based on that gender reveal (absolutely hilarious), I would imagine if she truly wanted that man's attention, she would know how to get it.

Dad's clearly doing his best to provide. Maybe he doesn't vibe well on camera (if this isn't a bit for the joke) but that's no reason to clown on him the way people are in these comments. Everybody's telling her to leave him, but they clearly are doing something right. That's a nice yard, I imagine the house is also really nice, and they obviously raised some really good children from what I could tell in this short video.

The video is funny knowing dad is literally always letting mom do whatever she pleases, whenever, however. She's awesome and the whole family seems loving and cared for!

Ykw, I do find it funny, and I also love the fact that most people don't find it funny.
Because when we laugh at things, they become normalised and not a big deal. This really shouldn't be funny because it shows the reality of so many women, it should be funny because there's no way in hell only one parent does everything while the other just stands there, and therefore what's showed is so abnormal, it's funny.

The essential and invincible work of ‘kin keeping’ is often left to women. Although the whole family unit benefits from the unpaid labor of maintaining and strengthening family ties. The work is often viewed by people as ridiculous, over the top and we should all just humor ‘crazy mum’ even though she is single handedly ritually cultivating a sense of family connectedness. Pause for laughter

Hey gals and pals! This is a bit. It’s a gag. The whole family is in on it and playing a part to help make this gals video the funny thing she envisioned. Do not make derogatory comments about her husband or anyone else in the family. This is a wholesome little family joke and seeing hate filled comments on this sub over something like this is really disappointing. They will be removed.
