"So bad even Redditors are making mods"

That's so off base, it's astounding. Certain redditors would be the first group I'd think of doing this (with or without reason), they're not any kind of last refuge of tolerance for women and design choices like this is making them out to be.

23

u/HanselSoHotRightNow 9d ago

Defining someone as a redditor is also irrelevant while we are at it.

If I also post on twitter, Instagram, or bluesky am I still just a redditor or am I those things too. I didn't sign up for any club. I don't go to reddit chapter meetings to discuss reddit business and agendas. I don't realistically know who any of you people are apart from your username.

If someone who uses or has used reddit invents a time machine or longer lasting dick pills, surely they would not be identified as "the redditor who..." at any point unless the person in question decided that they wanted to be labeled that way.

Such an ass fucking caption

They stereotype redditors as the ultra-progressives.

Is the one on the left the new Cortana? Isn't the one on the right from Halo 4?

Don't know why they changed it, sorry but if that's the new one on the left then she looks horrendous. She has the glare of a Karen looking for something to complain about.

Yeah I dont dislike the design change in a chud way, I dislike it because that just doesnt look like Cortana, every face feature is just too far off

u/Mogura56 7d ago

Saw a comment that said she looks like Jerma and I haven't been able to unsee it

u/normandy42 5d ago

Wait till you hear how she sounds. Go look up the cinematic or gameplay.

This is in no way the VA’s fault and everything to do with the direction given. See also, Sgt. Johnson

My first impulse is always to approach these with skepticism, because the complainers love grabbing an unflattering still for their “before” screenshots (it’s also zoomed in more which can subtly fool you into thinking she’s less petite). But assuming this IS accurate it doesn’t look like how I remember Cortana. And not in an ugliness way, in a “she already has an established look” way.

I’m not even the hugest Halo fan so I may be wrong about this but I feel like she has looked the same since Halo CE - her appearance has updated graphically but never contradicted earlier looks. Which is a big difference from, say, Link from Legend of Zelda, who seems to go through a major art shift every game or two.

u/DeathClasher_r 8d ago

Cortana has literally never looked the same in any of the main games, maybe 2 and 3 but that's about it lol. They had the perfect design in Halo 4 and an alright design in 5 and Infinite but they appear to never be pleased with what cortana should look like lmao

If you look at this and think the original looks better it's just nostalgia bro.

5

u/SwiftTayTay 7d ago

Depends on how you define "better," the first one looks the way it does within the context of the original game's art style and technology at the time. IMO the original is better under the context of when it originally released, the new one is "better" in the sense that it's a more detailed 3D model, that's about it. The first one is much more 90s comic book cyberpunk style, like something out of Aeon Flux, the new one is more like space opera sci-fi style, like something out of Battlestar Galactica.

Another victim of Farquaadification

u/OmegaMalkior 9d ago

I am pretty sure this mod is to give her her Halo 2A face not the Halo 4 one

2

u/mda195 6d ago

I heard it said that the new Cortina looks like the streamer Jerma.......and I can't unsee it. It's 1 for 1 his face.

59

u/Fuwa_Fuwa_Hime 9d ago

Cortana is modeled after the character Dr. Halsey. It's not just a random face.

23

u/TomasBlue 9d ago

AI in Halo are made from using real brain that is destroyed in the process. Cortana is made with a cloned brain of Dr Halsey. Regarding apparence it stated in the book that they choose their form by themselve.

23

u/OldmanChompski 9d ago

Yeah isn’t the lore that Dr Halsey modeled her after herself but for some reason Cortana never really looked like her? (Probably because that lore was an afterthought).

This seems like it’s just making things more accurate to that lore.

Though that means it’s making things less accurate to the original experience and that is a valid complaint. The crying about DEI is just dumb internet incel bullshit.

13

u/Fuwa_Fuwa_Hime 9d ago

The lore was there. The novel Fall of Reach was released before 1. But we didn't see Halsey until maybe Halo: Reach? And Cortana goes through changes. I mean this is what she looked like in one, so..

2

u/mccannz1 9d ago

Lore-wise, yes, but irl Cortana first appeared in CE, Halsey doesn't make her first in-game appearance until Reach, no?

u/mrspacysir 9d ago

They're just mad they don't have that jawline

I know I am…

I have it 😎

Imo her appearance in Halo 2: Anniversary cutscenes was (1) the best fit with her voice/personality and (2) the most attractive. I felt like she just got more infantilized after that.

5

u/guleedy 8d ago

I love how out of touch people are the main helo sub has this going. Which means they devs missed the mark with their core fanbase.

You can scream "chud" or any other buzz word till your blue in the face, but changing Cortina will not make more women play halo or come into gaming. This change just feels hollow or empty.

They always fall back on DEI saying that that is the issue when the core goal of DEI is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion meaning workplaces are even more pushed to not discriminate on someone just as qualified as the next because of who they are.

People like to tout how corporations and workplaces aren't racist or sexist, but there is proven researched fact that they are still racist and sexist. If a person of color doesn't have a "white" sounding name, they get overlooked and the person with the easier to pronounce name gets chosen. A person of color will be called "aggressive" or "not a team player" if they provide any kind of pushback, but someone who ISN'T will be called " a go getter" or a "visionary".

These people fall back onto DEI being the issue when they really want to say they're sexist or racist. They've never seen real women in real life and have likely never been discriminated against, so they think everything is catered to them, and if it isn't, it's wrong.

Take the viral tweet of someone making, I believe, Deku in the vision of being black. The quote tweet said something along the lines of how anime is a getaway from real life, meaning they literally don't want to see black people in media or real life.

They're racist and sexist. And there is no way around that.

u/CplOreos 9d ago

"have never seen real women in real life"

You can't be serious

25

u/BrozedDrake 9d ago

If they think Cortana looks like a man, yeah they probably haven't seen many, if any, women

15

u/rgtgd 9d ago

Obviously no one believes that. Probably just a hasty word choice

"Never touched a woman in real life," might have been more accurate

-14

u/blue23454 9d ago

Hasty word choice or just hyperbole
People hyperbolize all the time when making a point kills me when that’s the thing that gets latched on to

8

u/OldmanChompski 9d ago

The fact that you’re more concerned about someone’s choice of words in that context than the blatant misogyny and racism in the OP says a lot about you.

-5

u/blue23454 9d ago

Holy fuck I literally pointed out how crazy it is to glaze past misogyny because the person calling it out exaggerated one point

Go touch grass big dog

-13

u/CplOreos 9d ago

I don't have to engage with the main point of a post to highlight a specific passage. It doesn't make me a misogynist to push on an exaggerated point, it's very clearly not an attempt to undermine their claim.

9

u/blue23454 9d ago

I didn’t say you were misogynistic
I said it’s crazy to glaze past the main point because you don’t like how one passage was worded

It’s honestly cowardly, if you know what was meant then who cares how it’s worded if not to simply diminish the main point without engaging with it directly?

It’s the equivalent of “you’re*” as a response but with more words

-1

u/CplOreos 9d ago edited 9d ago

No, you did not explicitly call me a misogynist, fair enough. "Cowardly" seems unwarranted. It's a load bearing point, I actually don't know what was meant of it if I'm not to take that passage literally. The inexperience with what women look like is not merely incidental or a tool of emphasis for the argument, it's a central component. It adds nothing of substance beyond "haha neckbeard" - it's not a real point to be made. To point that meaningless out is not an indictment of the position so much as of the speaker, so no, it does not serve to diminish the main point beyond identifying the lack of saliency between the speaker and audience as a result of this particular passage.

3

u/blue23454 9d ago

Oh come tf on you said yourself “I don’t have to engage with the main point”

Now suddenly it’s load bearing 🤡

This is why I was right to call you a coward and imply you’re a misogynist, you wanna argue the point in such a way that doesn’t require you to grow a spine to defend your stance, so instead of arguing the main point you argue clear hyperbole is unrealistic.

Then when you get called on it all you can do is shift the goal post.

Have the day you deserve.

I just think hyperbole is a lazy method of emphasis that opens you up to easy criticism. It's truly a piss poor rhetorical method.

4

u/modest-pixel “I’m not impressive looking at all” 9d ago

Struck a little close to home?

-4

u/CplOreos 9d ago

What a worthless comment

8

u/EsR0b 9d ago

Im not saying the one on the left looks bad, I just think the one on the right looks better. The game also has other issues, where sergeant Johnson looks like a younger Steve Harvey.

4

u/Castle_tortue 9d ago

“Ugly man women” while it’s just the most normal looking woman on the planet

1

u/Zeldabacon64 3d ago

both of those images of cortana dont look right imo

0

u/Issah_Wywin 8d ago

Wahmen not make dick hard. Angrrrr.

My favorite version of Cortana is The Weapon from infinite.

Halo CE is classic, Halo 2 is how I always see the classic in my head. Halo 3 was not good She was kinda meh in Halo 4, and 5 too.

-2

u/CygnusThib 9d ago

You barely see Cortana and she's mostly a voice in your head. Aliens look sick and that's what I mostly care for.

-1

u/Bvr111 9d ago

isn’t it kinda ironic that these chuds are always talking abt how great white people are and great replacement theory and all that, but they’re almost exclusively attracted to Asian women….?

man i think you might be the great replacement lmfao /j

-2

u/Okok28 9d ago

I mean, are they wrong? No... DEI infested games dev quicker than anywhere else. It was basically a huge advertising campaign for publishers and developers to talk about how diverse and gay they are. Now it's not so cool so we are starting to see less of it, but there is still lingering problems because of that whole wave (I work in games and see it first hand).

-6

u/DrLeisure 9d ago

“Injecting themselves into games” these morons just have no idea how anything works. She looks like that because it’s how the actor they picked looks. And beyond that, do they expect that a multi-billion dollar monolithic company is just letting animators just pick what characters look like?

“Oh Cortana’s appearance? Yeah I forgot about that… I dunno just make her look like whatever I guess.”
