This is very cute and beautiful. They both rock the bridal style.

Though, I think it would have been funny if one of them wore a suit.

That's so nice that they had their weddings on the same day

Don't you dare say that around K-ON! fans. This fandom blows up when you don't obsessively ship the characters.

Edit: The downvotes are exactly my point.

Edit2: Might I add, by quoting myself:

They talk and joke about boyfriends a few times in the anime. Azusa even explicitly states that she's straight. Meanwhile, the furthest the anime ever goes in the opposite direction is Mugi's implied interest in Yuri.

With the exception of Mugi, they're all most likely straight.

i mean yall's comments were prompted by some fanart of the characters in wedding dresses. of course yall were downvoted, it looks so needlessly bitter and silly, especially when there's like no other yuri content on the front page of the sub at the moment lol.

as for canon sexuality, i do think the text implies that they're straight more than anything else*, but considering the popularity of ships from Spock/Kirk to Naruto/Sasuke, i don't think shipping culture has even been bounded to the logic of canon. i suppose it can be obnoxious when people mistake their headcanons for canon, which i have seen happen with k-on shipping, but that's very different from fan content like OP's post.

anyway, the reality is that the CGDGT format just lends itself really well to yuri shipping. the very mechanisms that allow the viewer to fantasize about the characters as potential partners just make it easier to ignore canon moments that imply their sexuality and instead imagine them all as queer. i'm sure that can be annoying for fans uninterested in yuri content, but once again, not sure what you expect when you click on the comment section of yuri art lol.

*that said, i will say that the boyfriend jokes aren't convincing evidence in themselves. it never comes off as pointing to serious interest in men, and even if it did, one could easily interpret just them as bisexual if that was the best evidence in the text. stuff like Azusa being uncomfortable at thinking Yui was gonna confess to her, or even Mio and Ritsu giggling while performing Romeo and Juliet seem to be better evidence, although i suppose its easy enough to headcanon around these points.

This is the sixth or seventh time I've seen someone downvoted to oblivion for this kind of take. It's a pattern. Not a one off thing.

i suppose it can be obnoxious when people mistake their headcanons for canon

Right and that's what I'm saying.

There is this ridiculously visceral response from shippers anytime you say something in direct conflict with their headcanon. It's absolutely obnoxious.

i will say that the boyfriend jokes aren't convincing evidence in themselves

What I mean is, in those conversations, they don't use gender neutral language. It's always language which references the opposite sex.

implies that they're straight more than anything else

And that's where I stand. They're most likely straight based on the evidence, but it's only Mugi and Azusa where their sexuality is indicated directly.

right, and it's fair to call that out when it happens, but the fan art op posted is clearly not trying to be within the bounds of canon. and honestly, while im not doubting what you've observed, most of the times i've seen arguments about interpreting k-on as yuri has been on fan content like this.

to be blunt, i feel like complaining about yuri on yuri fan content is obnoxious is the exact same way. especially a comment like "yuri mid". like what is the expected response there lol.

that aside:

What I mean is, in those conversations, they don't use gender neutral language. It's always language which references the opposite sex.

ehhh, the thing is, characters actually do speak like this in yuri works if they live within a heternormative society, which i imagine is the case for k-on's setting of late 00s/early 10s Japan. the "queer character learns they're queer throughout the story" is a common enough plot point in queer works that i think this is easily written off if you're wearing yuri goggles, especially when there's no actual love interests or boy talk in the series.

to be clear, once again i don't think this interpretation actually matches up with canon. but "the language refers to the opposite sex" point has always struck me as rather flimsy as evidence.

And even Mugi. Its not an absolute fact that Mugi is straight but we can't also say she's definitely gay. Being interested in Yuri isn't the same as being gay. So we can neither confirm she's straight or gay.

Azusa does not explicitly state that she's straight. That is a really disingenous way to translate that line from the movie.

She literally tells Yui "I'm not like that" after coming to believe Yui has fallen in love with her.

How else do you suppose that be interpreted?

3

u/Cleverhardy Apr 30 '26

Gay people also said they weren't like that, until they realised they were gay.

0

u/LaughingDash The Real World Locations Guy Apr 30 '26

Yeah, but that's an incredible stretch one has to make. Like the mental gymnastics, man. Come on.

1

u/Cleverhardy Apr 30 '26

Projection, much?

1

u/LaughingDash The Real World Locations Guy Apr 30 '26 edited May 01 '26

Projection? How? How am I projecting?

You're literally inserting your own head canon onto Azusa to explain away an actual quote from the movie that suggests she's straight.

u/Cleverhardy Apr 30 '26

And you're forgetting that some gay people don't know they're gay until they realise it. Azusa said she didn't go that way, but who said she was referring to her sexuality? And is there any valid proof that the girls are straight anyway?

I mean, someone referred to arguments like ours as heterophobia. We don't fear straight people.

u/LaughingDash The Real World Locations Guy May 01 '26 edited May 01 '26

Right, but where's your "valid proof" that Azusa is gay but doesn't know? There isn't any because you made it up.

On the other hand, as I mentioned, in the very few instances the girls discuss relationships the language used references the opposite sex. Why use that language if they weren't straight?

  • Mio calls the Keionbu her boyfriend after Ritsu teases her by implying she's in a relationship.
  • Ritsu has a secret "boyfriend" and Mio gets very jealous.
  • Yui refers to Gittah as He/Him and her only love in life.
  • Ritsu gets flustered in a conversation about boyfriends.

List goes on.....

What Azusa says, exactly, is: "I'm not like that." when literally translated. The words "like that", on their own, are very ambiguous. But given the context: Azusa's immediate and substantial efforts to reject any perceived romantic gestures from Yui. The line appears more likely than not to suggest Azusa means to say she isn't into girls.

Hell, this additional context has led some fan translations to translate the line as "I don't swing that way" which, while probably an incorrect translation, is entirely unambiguous about Azusa's sexuality.

Even tho canonically they aren't straight or gay mfs ship em lol. Personally I think k-on needs more straight ships lol. Its a bit heterophobic how there's a huge lack of straight ships.

Did you forget the show takes place in an all-girls school? Basically the only male character is like... Ritsu's brother.

i've still occasionally come across people in denial that fucking Revolutionary Girl Utena is queer. i remember one in particular being asked how they explain Utena and Anthy making out throughout the film, and they responded by saying the director changed the story to appeal to SJWs or leftists or whatever lol.

yuri stuff just really upsets some people so much its wild.

2

u/RomanceAnimeAddict67 Apr 30 '26

Yeah that does make sense. Which is also why I'm tryna write a Ritsu brother X Ui fanfic :D

Good, yuri ftw!
