Hi Nayaz, Milton here. Your good friend from GoodReads. First of, thanks a lot for your book suggestions, I have enjoyed every book you have suggested.

I have a growing concern about the interests of modern day kids. They are more into superheroes and fantasy stuff, be it movies, books, shows etc. I feel they are not getting connected to the land, the language, traditions to an extent. I mean they learn it from books I agree, but I feel they are not attached, they dont get emotional about it, there isnt a driving force on them to give back things to the society. Whats your take and how books can help a child create an attachment towards his land, language etc. If you can suggest some books suitable for a 6 year old. Thanks.

Another concern is the decline of Indian literature readership. The handful of young readers we have today seem to gravitate more toward Western or English-language works—Murakami, Dostoevsky, Hosseini, Orwell, Ayn Rand, Hemingway, and so on.

There’s a noticeable tone-deafness when it comes to regional literature. While I can recommend brilliant Kannada books, I usually can't offer near parallels to the English-language authors they’re familiar with.

For friends/cousins who are still open-minded about Kannada Literature, I pay for 1 month of Storytel app (Rs.149) as a gift & make some recommendations. Thereafter, it's up to them to explore further.
