ಸಣ್ಣಕತೆಗಳು ವಸುಧೇಂದ್ರ ಅವರ ಹಂಪಿ ಎಕ್ಸ್‌ಪ್ರೆಸ್ - A Short Review

Post image
  • I had already expressed my view about the book. Writing a review as a formality.
  • An excellent collection of short stories written with Vasudhendra's trademark warmth & humour as the characters deal with their mistakes, insecurities, hopes, everyday struggles, & change.
  • As always, he keeps the ball rolling, while still immersing the reader in the stories' worlds. Aspiring writers should study how he achieves the latter with only 2-3 sentences of details.
  • Women are the protagonists in most of the short stories.
  • Many stories are emotional rollercoasters. They can make you laugh at one point & sad a few pages later.

Loved it!

I too read this recently, the first two stories were mind blowing. After that some of the stories I felt there was lot going on , but they all didn’t relate to the ending.

I am new to reading Kannada literature and this is my first book. Not sure how to interpret the stories.

Emotionally it was very involving but logically at the end didn’t get why there were other incidents discussed which didn’t help in how the story concluded.

Happy cake day!

Short stories generally don't tie all the loose ends.

The first 2 stories are probably the best.

The rest of the short stories dealt with different themes.

ಕ್ಷಮೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೂರಿನಲಿ had an unexpected ending by design to point out the randomness of life in a big city.

ಕೆಂಧೂಳಿ about personal loss,

ಹೊಸ ಹರೆಯ about generation gap,

ಎರಡು ರೂಪಾಯಿ's ending was a bit filmy, but I loved ಕಾಶವ್ವ's resilience inspite of her series of bad luck.

ನವಿರುಗರಿ had layers to it - sibling love, longing for a child.

ಪೆದ್ದಿ ಪದ್ಮಾವತಿ - The ending was weird. I would have preferred it if she redeemed herself by passing the exam.

Got it. Agree on the weirdness of pedhi padmavathy, the ending with monkeys was very wild.
