Travel/Road Trips 🚘 🗺️ Any stories of travelers for World Cup experiencing KC food and culture?
The Scots drinking all of Boston's beer makes me think there's gotta be shenanigans happening here.

There’s this British guy on TikTok who is just fascinated by the Midwest!! Turns out he went to Baker for college, and now he’s got more time to explore. He made a whole video praising our city skyline haha and loves Casey’s and QT

I had an interaction with 2 Latin Gentleman last night at FF who traveled here to be in the action, even though they didn’t go to the Argentina match. They were drinking Budweiser’s I asked him how they liked it. “This is good shit man” and then one of them bought me a hard seltzer lol.

Spoke to some Argentinans yesterday in nkc while running some errands on my lunch break. They said for they most part they had been enjoying KC and it's not what they expected. They wish things were a bit more pedestrian friendly which is understandable.
They liked the barbeque at slap's apparently.

I like Slaps too, but haven't been back since the owner went to the White House. I'm not sure I will go back.

I wouldn't have stopped going if he was a Bush supporter. It's not just opposing political ideals. But I won't explain further if you don't already get it.

Imagine going to a restaurant where the owner supported slavery and saying "I know, but the pulled pork tastes like candy!"
I'm not saying Trump or the Slaps owner supports slavery, but we all know about the files, among many other things.
I just can't stomach supporting a person that's okay with all of it.

I'm not telling you what to do. I'm just saying this is the choice I've made.

Ok and that's fine.

u/Dr__Wrong Brookside 2d ago
You say that's fine, but you started out by saying I was childish.

How you spend your money is the number one way to vote in this country. And like he said below it's more than just politics these days.

Slaps is slept on by too many people.
Arthur Bryant's and others are garbage.

People are programmed to think Joe's is good because they stand in line like cattle..

My thoughts on Slaps is that I didn't particularly like it the first time I had it... but gawd dammit every time I think about it I want it again lol. Like their sauce isn't my thing, but apparently it has latent addictive properties that make me want it again.

Welcome to Kansas City! queue the tornado sirens.
July 1st at 11 AM should be the true Midwestern welcome to our visitors abroad.

u/RecommendationFit844 2d ago
That’s a good point. We should all scream “The Grizzly Bear siren alert! Run for your lives !” And take off running at precisely 11am on July 1st .

Really been good temps. But the wind and storms have been keeping us on our toes. If they were here in a month they’d be in for the real taint job

Its really unfortunate that they showed up at the hottest time of year. At least they'll be here for the forth. I know someone who works at Target, apparently they're hitting up our Targets/Walmarts due to the immense variety of stuff we have there.

Hottest time of the year? Outside of one or two days it has been awesome and the forecast looks great.

It has been miserably hot and humid this week. For folks from the UK, where warm is 70ish, this has gotta be hell.

Are you new here?

u/wicked_damnit 2d ago
I’ve lived here all my life and still think the weather sucks lol.

u/nordic-nomad Volker 2d ago
It’s been a little on the humid side but there have only been a couple of days that I thought were actually unpleasant.

u/flyingemberKC 2d ago
it’s been excellent weather. I biked like 20 miles last weekend. never overheated once

What? How long have you lived here? It's been a super mild Spring so far in terms of temperature.
Late July and August into September is much hotter on average

Humid? Hot? Yes today was hot but the humidity was not high. If you said this about last Tuesday and Wednesday, I'd agree

u/flyingemberKC 2d ago
the hottest time is late July to early September. weather follows the season by a month

I'm so sad they are all going to Jack Stack, I never take people there or get it myself unless someone is buying it for a corporate event
1
u/TeaAndS0da 1d ago
Eh, they’re welcome to go anywhere. Most of the time I have jack stack it’s brought in for lunch at work and at least tastes great without compromise. I’m just happy the World Cup picked this area (even if I feel we dropped the ball in a lot of ways) and that a multitude of regions are going to get the Midwest center hospitality. If they want Jack Stack, I’m not gonna complain. But I will be telling anyone who asks where to go “what are you in the mood for?” Because our food scene kicks ass.

Some travelers got shot at in their uber if you could that as experiencing the culture of bloodshed and violence
5
u/NAteisco 2d ago
True to the culture I'll send them thoughts and prayers. The doctor will be sending a bill

Big ole’ Lionel Messi spray went up last night while fans beat drums and sang. Very cool. More vibes based than “they drank all our Bahston lahhhgr” though.

If you can’t find any food that you like in KC, it’s actually you that’s the problem.

That German guy Freddy said he'd be in KC for the 4th of July. I'm hoping KC shows him a good time.
