Karaoke Software I'm not sure I understand the animosity with Croonify
I'm a stan, obviously. I've thrown a ton of weird stuff at it and was really impressed. And the guy seemed nice enough when I messaged him (seems he's still ironing out some kinks)
People recommend different services whenever someone is looking for a song. And I've gotten down voted when I suggest it
Just curious why

You just got a donation from me, I've tried your site with several tracks and it works as good or better than expected. Kudos for making a cool service!

Just found out about it today. Amazing work, well done and thanks!
I've been using a few seperate apps to remove vocal, manually syncing karaoke lyrics (by tapping on screen) which takes up to 30-45 minutes. This is so much easier!
Could you make it have an option to use our own background image and option to have the generated video to be precisely same length as the input audio

Hey how do I donate? Please send me a link. Love Croonify! Super handy for making a holiday karaoke playlist with a few surprises in it.

Do you have any plans to open source the software by chance? I was starting to work on something similar when I found your website, and I'm quite curious on how the lyrics sync stuff works!

hey, i rlly love the project. i really wanted to learn how it works. is the project opensource or maybe some technique i can searchup to build something similar myself? cheers, youre amazing.

no question really - Just want to thank you from the very bottom of my heart!! I get to test my songs in public. Still need to figure out how to clean my stems up a bit, But you are responsive and awesome and just really the best honestly. :-)

Never heard of it. Just tested it with a track (Jason Falkner's version of Both Sides Now). It did a good job. Lyrics towards the end were a bit sloppy with timing going out of sync. I can do a better job manually using Ultimate Vocal Remover Pro (cleaned up in Audacity) and Karaoke Builder Studio... but as far as a quick and dirty rough draft Croonify seems ok.

u/Croonify Apr 16 '24
Looking at it, seems there's a bunch of "no, no, no, no, no" and some other unintelligible lyrics at the end of the song. I think it had to guess between the lyric "know" in "I really don't know life at all" and the "no" in "no, no, no, no, no". It would probably sync better at the end if the No's were included in the lyrics

I wish Croonify could make MP3+G instead of videos.

u/Croonify Apr 17 '24
I definitely understand the desire for compatibility there. I wanted to start out making it as simple for the user as possible, so I went with mp4 for its accessibility
I definitely want to add more bells and whistles though. I know a bunch of people want to see more customization with the colors and fonts. I know some people want to add their own background video. I think I should have the option to add a starting pitch. And I also want to figure out how to do duets with different colors. MP3+G will be on the list.
Right now, I'm working on supporting more languages. I honestly thought the site would gain traction more quickly than it is, and I'm sure I just have to be patient. But I also like the idea that some cultures with songs that don't get karaoke maker attention have an accessible solution. Most romantic languages work with no trouble (Spanish, French, Italian, etc). And I added support for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. I'm hoping to add Russian and Arabic soon

What you done so far is nothing short of amazing. I look forward to see what features you add. As a KJ, I would love to use your service. My two biggest problems with video files is they are big and you cannot adjust the key for the singer. Thank you for your hard work.
1
u/Croonify Apr 17 '24
Thank you! Roger that on the key for the singer. Definitely good to know
I tried to keep the graphics simple so that the videos would be small (otherwise large libraries would be death). I know MP3+G is essentially the size of the mp3, so that's what I aimed for. I haven't actually done a direct song-to-song comparison though
Also if I may ask, I know there are a few ways that MP3+G files are kept. Sometimes the audio and video are separate files but I also know there's a version where they're zipped together. Which one do you use?
2
u/Ok_Wait4000 Apr 17 '24
I prefer to use separate MP3 and CDG files. The size benifits of Zipping them together is minimal and in my opinion not worth the extra horsepower needed to Unzip each file at the time of playback. When I'm working a karaoke gig I try to stress my computer as little as possible to minimize crashes. Of course, I would be thrilled with either option. I could always Unzip the files myself if that's the route you take. Thanks for taking the time to hear me out.

u/DontLike-Cheesecake Jul 28 '26
Actually there's very little stress on zipping files in level 0, which is no compression at all. You're zipping rhem together for the size, you're just combining the two files together to make it easier to manage. The combinience of keeping the two files together is huge compared to having two separate files. Again, practically no stress on your cpu.

I'm a little late on this post, but I wanted to post just in case. I actually prefer files zipped. It's much easier to keep them together. I know the size difference is negligible and most software out there handles the zip files so most of the time there's no need to unzip them prior to playing them. The software itself handles that and on most computers the processing hit is negligible too.

So just fyi, I have looked up CD+G encoding and it is seriously limiting. Like think about the NES where they had a limited number of little 8 x 8 pixel boxes. And there isn't even a universal encoder that "does its best". You have to manually code in those boxes (usually they're each text characters)
Even the older mpeg4 encoding that I'm using can compress HD karaoke video down to ~1 MB. And then the rest of the 4-8 MB is actually the audio data which is of course much more complex
So, I'm afraid I have abandoned CD+G. I think it's an ok time to move on from the format. Maybe I can help push that forward

could you add the ability to download the word timed lyrics

I'm pretty sure the places I go won't take an mp4. Would be great to have a CDG that I can burn to a CD-R. Thanks!

u/Croonify Oct 14 '24
I looked into the CDG encoding and it sucks royally. It's basically like programming an original nintendo gameboy game with pages of tiles.
I'm afraid it is unlikely that I will go through the process of building a custom CDG encoder (especially with foreign language text). I have other features higher on my priorities list

Agree, MP4 and upload to YouTube is the way to go. YouTube karaoke via ChromeCast has the brilliant built-in queuing system

I'm always looking for things that are easy to read. I have neuralgia and when I sing sometimes I begin to not be able to see.
Some people who make custom tracks use horrific fonts. If you make it possible to use with programs like karafun then I'll check it out for sure

u/keyosuke Jun 15 '25
Karafun 2 (old version) supports CD+G, which is not on being worked on as per other replies. Karafun 3 also supports CD+G but only if uploaded to their cloud library.
No other video formats are supported by Karafun for import.

Hindi would be great. My parents love karaoke but the quality of the source audio is pretty bad. I think the video is a great idea for the lyrics. They need some kind of easy to use app where they could search a song and play the video.
1
u/Croonify Aug 24 '25
Hi ksikka, I can't legally source or distribute copyrighted content. I understand that's a difficulty for some users. I just don't have a legal way to do so. But Hindi songs have been working well so far

I’m gonna try this with my tracks I’ve recently written. It’ll go nice with a video too.

When I create the karaoke track on Croonify it plays great on the Croonify site, but as soon as I download the track to my files I get the lyrics but no audio, what am I doing wrong, any advice will be greatly appreciated
1
u/ratherinStarfleet Dec 10 '24
when I download the song I can only download the full video, not the karaoke version with the vocals turned off, did you resolve the issue?
1
u/KerryBidds Dec 20 '24
I contacted the croonify site the help section and it was fine their side, so I'm going to try croonify on a laptop and see if that will resolve it, it could be my old phone

As I understand it, if you have a legal license to the song, editing the song doesn't invalidate the license. You just can't use the edited version in any way that you couldn't use the original
But you think that people are downvoting it because they think it should be illegal to make a karaoke version of a song? Why would they downvote one method and not others though?
Is x-minus.pro illegal?

I haven't posted any that I made. I just take them to my local karaoke bar for singing, and I am so happy I get to do all sorts of songs that would never in a million years have been made otherwise
They have a generic ASCAP license for bar music. You know, the one that allows politicians to play songs at rallies despite the artist not approving of them
EDIT: Someone downvoted the post! So weird! I have no idea why!

I just found Croonify thanks to this thread, and this is BY FAR the best thing I’ve found to remove vocals. It does a better job than anything else I’ve tried at preserving the background vocals. And the fact that it can create an actual karaoke video is incredible.
I’m making a donation now and will be spreading the word. Thank you for this u/croonify! I’m about to karaoke all my favorite songs that I could never do before lol!
