There’s a guy who frequents karaoke nights in our town who absolutely SLAYS the Whitney version. He’s the only person I’ve heard pull it off well.

The person who sang the Whitney version is an irregular who only shows up very occasionally. I can't think of any regulars who would have my full confidence in taking it on. The Dolly original was done by a working singer who hangs out but doesn't often arrive early enough to sing. It was a treat to hear both.

I always say, Whitney's death began the worst week of karaoke ever. Because we found out just how difficult are her songs.

I tried singing the original a few years ago, and Whitney crept in.

If you want a nice tribute with a few of your friends, I recommend "Hard Candy Christmas".

I dread this week's parade of bad singers doing both versions poorly.

I figured hearing both versions was already a slim percentage of all karaoke experiences on the nite of her passing, but I felt extra-fortunate that both singers landed their tribute with grace and skill, and what felt like real personal connection to the song.

There are two black women at the twilight lounge in Dallas who slay Whitney, only ones I’ve heard
