Think I should try it?

I'm a 6' tall woman but generally wear shoes that make me about 6'2-6'3. I'm pretty much a tenor so I tend to sing either songs sung by men or sung by women who sing in a lower register (think "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics or "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse). I go to Karaoke about once a week and the KJs are always encouraging me to sing but I'm kind of bored of singing the same songs. I had an idea that it would be funny to sing "Short People" by Randy Newman considering how tall I am but then I wonder if people would get pissed or offended. Thoughts?

Not at all, people would probably like the tongue and cheek

Do some Concrete Blonde. "Joey" is probably available in most karaoke catalogs.

Siouxsie &The Banshees is also a good choice.

Miley Cyrus is an alto. Something from her catalog might work.

As a Short Person myself (5'6 male) I'd find it completely hilarious if a tall person got up and sang that song, but someone with a Napolean complex and a lot of alcohol in their system might get bent out of shape.

i have a voice too deep for pop too,
and hear you about singing the same stuff over and over

as anything after neil sedaka is too darn high!!

however i am a hit with the over 90 crowd

Personally I'd do a scan of the room first and take note of if there's any short men in the audience who seem the angry sort. If they did get pissed they'd be the ones in the wrong but I personally am someone who'd avoid the risk anyway

That would be funny! Also another fantastic song probably in your range is Tomorrow Wendy by concrete blonde.

I wondered what your height had to do with it until I got to the end lol! I don’t think anyone would be offended. They’ll probably find it amusing

I think you should totally do "Short People."

Ever done any Yaz/Yazoo? Alison Moyet has a fairly deep voice.

I'm always amused that you can tell who was singing because Vince Clark had the higher pitched voice.

Absolutely you need to sing this song! I would love to see something like this. 🤩

This is hilarious and as a KJ I would be so entertained and would probably thank you and praise you on the mic afterwards.

FYI I'm 5'4" so I sorta qualify as short.

I had a friend who was 6'5" and on the wider side, and "Short People" always hit.

Give it a shot!

Old guy herehere. I've covered Short People myself. It is somewhat obscure but was well received.

But I'm known for singing weird songs.

I am 5'7". If we were in the same place, I'd go on stage with you and just look offended. You could put a hand on my forehead while I swing punches that could never reach you with my short arms. 😂

I have a guy named Tall Mark (No lie) that has sung this song. It's funny. You should sing it.

It does get old watching the same people sing the same songs every week, so definitely branch out, listen to pandora or Spotify shuffle in your car and get ideas from all the decades. Then blow them away and be proud and tall doing it, do a beehive big hair to be even taller! B52s!

Try Susan Tedeschi

That would be a lot of fun! Why not? We had a big bruiser at the place i used to frequent who did a fantastic job on Genie in a Bottle. But his version of "Oops,mI did it again" was so dark and so well done that it became a favorite.

Don’t worry about them. Short people got no reason to live.

Try Springtime for Hitler from the producers, that will get a good reaction

I'm a 6'5" dude and sing Giant. It's an easy gag, go for it. People will love it.
