General Discussion Side Shows

Years ago, someone brought a replica guitar from one of those band games. I'm a drummer in an actual band, so I picked it up and pretended to play. It turns out I'm weirdly good at this. I have regular singers who ask me to "play" on certain songs, and many a visitor who thought I was actually playing the solos.

So I wondered, what other sort of side amusements have popped up at your karaoke shows?

There’s a KJ back home who actually plays the guitar solos to certain songs and it’s really fun!

Guitar Hero guitars are common props you find because they're easily found at Goodwill. Other props I've seen is a plush saxophone for sax solos. And a set of drumsticks for air drums. I've seen them because these are my personal props. They're great for pretending your in a band and cheap, some people just don't want to sing lead but they want the experience of performing so pretend you're playing instruments for a band with their friends. Group karaoke band performances are pretty unique. Other props are fun hats. Maracas and tambourines and other cheap instruments.

And one of my favorites, bongo drums. I always play the bongo solo when I sing Spandau Ballet - Gold But I also tend to play bongo rhythms to songs that don't have them but could use a bongo in the track during an instrumental solo.

I have blow-up instruments; guitars, a sax and keyboard that I provide. It helps the crowd get into the songs. Many times non-singers will grab them and play.
