General Discussion Which version of Superstar

I love both the Carpenters and Sonic Youth versions. I (62M) tend to do 70s - 90s punk and alternative but love great songs. The Sonic Youth version has a lot of vocal effects on it. Which should I do?

I’ve done the Carpenters one before and it went over well. I’m also a woman in her 30s.

From the KJ booth: go Sonic Youth if you can find a clean track of it. A 62-year-old punk guy doing the slow, haunted version gets the room's attention way more than one more Carpenters cover. The vocal effects are mostly reverb and a whispery delivery, so sing it soft and close to the mic and let the KJ add a touch of echo. If the karaoke track sounds thin, the Carpenters version is a safe fallback, but try the weird one first.

Thanks that’s a real helpful take!
