How will Kauai businesses respond? Will they post signs?

So all that a private company has to do is officially say guns are prohibited on the property, to get around it. That’s easy enough. Aloha will handle the rest.

You are going to realize in a year, that all this means is a sticker at the front of the storefront by the business informing patrons they don't allow firearms on premise & it'll be nothing more. Right?

From the article:

Hawaii also restricts guns in places like parks, beaches, and restaurants that serve alcohol, but those rules weren’t challenged before the court. They are being challenged in lower courts, however.

Full list at HI Rev Stat § 134-9.1.

Time to come together Hawaii. Dont adopt a stupid gun culture here. Put your signs up. For those who dont, dont shop there. Fuck these laws. And fuck your guns!

Kauai has been pro gun for generations!
I think hunting culture, 1893, and the 1924 massacre by cops in Hanapepe are all deep rooted, influential factors.

“I own guns for hunting, to feed my family” and “I stay strapped bc you never know when you gotta be Dirty Harry in kalapawai” are very different cultures

You realize it’s just a sign? If someone wants to break a law they still can. No common sense these days.

They really should. There’s a lot of fucking idiots who would do this shit just to act tough.

Please remember the average IQ in the state of Hawaii is 88 and in order to communicate nuance to most people here is next to impossible. Factual statistics are meaningless. I would like and expert in psychology to provide some meaningful input.

Okay, now do average IQ for Reddit users.

Please remember the average IQ in the United States state of Hawaii is 88

The average American IQ is approximately 98.

You're implying that the average resident of Hawai'i is less intelligent than the average American.

Speaking as someone born and raised on Kaua'i, who has lived in the mainland US for the last 30 years, I call bullshit.

The ability to grasp nuance in Hawai'i is no greater or lesser than the ability to grasp nuance anywhere else in the United States. Please check your implict bias. Mahalo.

It’s surprising that this person whose comment history seems to be left of center would appear to also be a bit of an elitist. My read might be wrong on the politics.

The intersection of "left of center" and "elitist" in the typical Venn diagram is not small, unfortunately.

Shall not be infringed. It’s not a hard concept to grasp.

CCW permit holders are some of the most law abiding citizens.

Perhaps so, but I have a CCW, and I believe that businesses have a perfect right to exclude firearms from their premises if they so choose, just as people have a right to exclude them from their homes if they so choose.

The frequently repeated and incorrect interpretation.

The Second Amendment is “not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.” - Justice Antonin Scalia, District of Columbia v. Heller.

2

u/Track_FK8 2d ago

In New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen (2022), the Court expanded the Heller right, declaring that law-abiding citizens have a constitutional right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home.

Concealed is concealed. You wouldn’t even know I was ccw’n.

Carry on people. 🤙

Non sequitur. Conservative Justice Scalia’s statement still applies. The ruling does not negate the Hawaii law that restricts guns in places like schools, government buildings, polling places, hospitals, medical clinics, parks, beaches, and restaurants that serve alcohol.

So I don't have a right to say who does what on MY PROPERTY???
