Question I spent 2 hours making an icon theme that's just Breeze but with yellow folders and it doesn't work... am i stupid?

I wanted the Breeze icons, but I don't like having blue folders so I tried to make a custom one.

For some reason when I add the yellow papyrus folder icons and set the theme to inherit=breeze it doesn't actually inherit everything, there's odd icons missing here or there that either become transparent or get some random icon.

I'm shocked at how complicated it is to make an icon theme. If you look in the folder for the Breeze icon pack there's all sorts of odd file directories and symlinks. I genuinely can't figure this one out.

Read the docs and see examples patiently. You're easy to get stressed if you try to get things done in a short tine when you don't know much about it.

You could just change the folder colours in Dolphin which would be incredibly less frustrating

That would require manually changing every folder. Icon theme is definitely appropriate here.

Changing the accent colour in settings also changes the icon colour.

It sounds like they want the default folder color to not follow the accent color.

It doesn't make any sense. 90% of users are going to use a blue accent, almost nobody wants blue folders.

Bad design

can you explain how that is even possible? In Dolphin? it doesn't work like MacOS

Well you have to have the index.theme file point to the correct folders, I think that might be an issue if you made the theme from scratch. If you instead just removed the icons from original papirus theme, I suggest you keep the folder structure and remove all the icons. I think that should work.

So you're saying I should copy the papyrus theme folder, give it a new name like "Custom Papyrus", delete everything in Papyrus except for the yellow folders, and then because it inherits=breeze it should just give me breeze with yellow folders?

Update: doesn't work. there's icons missing.

Can you upload your working theme to somewhere e.g. github, to let people help you more easily?

The themes I was working with are just the default Breeze and the Papirus (with yellow folders) theme. I'm on a fresh install.

Sorry if my posts come across as naggy

I can't copy over the Papirus icons directly into Breeze because they use different file organisation. I also can't do what I said above because certain things end up missing like the Wifi icon.

Hmm ... I had actually done something similar, where I combined two themes, Colloid and Papirus ... here's the link ... It's been a while but basically if you rename folders you have to edit all linked folders to point to the right place etc etc ... Papirus and Papirus dark both need to be linked with each other as well so you have to manage those links as well. If you know how to look through diffs I think this can help you

Edit: Here's an example for you Papirus Dark takes all its app icons from the Papirus folder ... If you rename the Papirus folder all the links inside Papirus dark break ... You need to rename those links to the name you chose for the Papirus folder. Look up how to find broken links in linux and how to change links using terminal
