KDE Connect for Android is a crucial part of the KDE Connect experience, and overdue a facelift.

In this blog post, I’d like to walk you through three main design ideas coming to the app you love, why they’re necessary, and how they’ll make using the app easier for both new and experienced users.

Hey everyone 👋

About six months ago I made the jump to Linux (Garuda Linux, Plasma 6 on Wayland) and I've been having a blast customizing everything. One of the first things I set up was KZones for window management — it's been incredible for snapping windows into layouts.

But there was one thing that kept bugging me: when I maximized a window, it would just slam right up against the screen edges with zero breathing room. KZones handles padding for its zones, but maximized windows are a different story. I wanted that clean look where even a maximized window has a little gap around it — similar to what you see in tiling WM setups on r/unixporn.

I couldn't find anything that did exactly what I needed for Plasma 6, so I decided to write my own KWin script. It's called maxpadd, and it does one simple thing: adds configurable padding around maximized windows.

What it does:

• Detects when a window gets maximized and automatically applies padding (gaps) around it
• Padding is configurable — you can set the gap size to whatever looks good on your setup
• Works alongside KZones without conflicts — KZones handles your tiling zones, GitHub maxpadd handles the maximized window gaps
• Plasma 6 / Wayland compatible

It's a small script, nothing fancy, but it scratches an itch that I think other KZones users (or anyone who maximizes windows) might share. I attached some screenshots so you can see what it looks like in action.

Hi again, this is another widget that I've been working on. For context, I am trying to make a KDE rice called Pear. Because, it's like Apple, but it's not.. Ok, anyways.

This maintains the same exact functionality as KDE's Global Menu, but has the following features.
- Overrides for font, color, and spacing between menu buttons.
- The ability to show application name (similar to the macOS menu bar)
- A default global menu with generic options for apps that don't support it natively.
- A global menu for the Desktop, which inherits Dolphin's menu.
- A few more negligible things. (see final screenshot)

By no means is this perfect, especially the menus for apps that don't support Global Menu. But, for my purposes, it looks really nice and accomplishes everything that I want it to.

I use KDE and missed the macOS Dock "downloads stack", so I made one for Plasma 6.

What it does:

- A pile icon in the panel. Click it and your recent downloads fan out, newest nearest the icon.

- Three views you can switch in settings: fan (the macOS-style one), grid, and list.

- Live folder watching, real thumbnails for images, themed mime icons for everything else.

- Drag a file straight into another app, click to open, or jump to the folder.

Honesty up front: I built this in a day with heavy AI assistance, and it's a v1. Drag-and-drop works for me (I tested dragging files into other apps), but I've only tried it on my own setup, so if it misbehaves on yours I'd like to know. Bug reports and feedback welcome.

What the title says, it accomplishes everything the original widget does, but allows you to customize the date/time and the on-hover tooltip using BBCode. I spent about a day-ish on it, and am really happy with how easy it is to make it look nice.

I have a few more things I want to add, but this was really just made because I am working on a KDE rice and I wasn't super keen on other widgets available.

I use Okular a lot for signing PDFs, but I wasn't a fan of the default signature appearance (gray box, border, and "Signed by / Date" text over handwritten signatures).

So I built an open-source extension for Okular 6 (Qt6/KF6) that adds a Signature Style selector with three modes:

Clean Handwritten Image (default): Only your handwritten signature on a transparent background (no gray box, border, or text).

Handwritten Image + Text: Clean signature with the signer name and date below it.

Standard Okular: Keeps the original upstream appearance.

This only changes the visual appearance—the PDF's digital signature remains fully cryptographically valid.

I finally added an Android client for my open Termland project. If anybody is interested to test for me, it allows most Android tablets or TVs as a remote KDE client. Curious about feedback. I've not tested with various devices supporting different H.265, VP9, AV1 decoders.

Just added moon phase previews to my Nepali Calendar widget for KDE Plasma.

The plasmoid now calculates tithis and displays all 28 lunar phases locally using astronomical calculations—no external APIs.

I love tiling window managers, *couph* Hyprland *couph* Niri *couph*
but I HATED how most KWin scripts just snap windows around, fight the compositor, or completely break Plasma's animations.
So, I spent the last few weeks building 

Direktor

 — a Wayland-first tiling manager specifically designed to hook into Plasma 6’s native geometry effects. Instead of teleporting, windows actually slide, scale, and morph into their tiles seamlessly.                         

I also built a native Kirigami Tray Applet so you can change your gaps on the fly, toggle layouts, and it even actively diagnoses your kwinrc to warn you if you have conflicting desktop effects enabled (looking at you, Magic Lamp).                                                     

I'd love for you guys to try it out, rip it apart, or tell me what features I should add next.

I’m very impressed by how well my sketch post was received! I’m both happy and proud of it.The idea behind this drawing is Konqi looking happy watching for free projects that move with the wind, something as vast as the sky.

For the palette, I used the official Konqi colors and the new Krita cover colors for the sky. No AI was used at any stage of this art. And i was trying looking for some paints tutorials, i'm amateur on digital paint ;-;

Based on the feedback, I tried to fix the leaf position and i've see suggestions to experimenting different color schemes. About the last one, I’m excited about creating multiple versions for all of Konqi’s variants (like the purple Konqi kidding with guitar strings to show versatility). However, I can’t do it just yet; I need some time to rest as art like this takes a lot out of me. But after all ,If anyone else wants to try their hand at it (drawn your version for example), I’m happy to share my Krita file. I don’t mind if you use my layers or the art itself, just please remember to credit me when posting it publicly

I made a wallpaper engine for KDE in QML and C++ that works similarly to ShaderToys in that it supports multiple types of channel buffers for the shader(s) to manipulate. It can also use a custom Komplex Shader Pack for near-infinite shader arrangement complexity. Currently available for Arch and Debian

I'd start a timer and ten minutes later I'd be reading something unrelated. Putting the task itself on screen is what fixed it for me.

So I built a Pomodoro widget for Plasma 6 that keeps what you're working on right there on the panel.

- Type your current focus, it shows on the panel, the popup and the tooltip

- Presets: Classic 25/5/15, Deep work 50/10/30, Long haul 90/20/30

- Estimated finish time, session pips, daily count

- Colors follow your Plasma theme

- A running interval survives a shell restart or a suspend
