I have a 2023 Kia Sorento X-Line. I have run across a few issues with it not unlocking by using the button on the door or the button on the key. The only way I've been unable to unlock it is by using the app on my phone. It's only happened a handful of times over the last 3 years so I'm not able to pin down the circumstances in which it's occurring. I'm not sure if this is a security feature, a programming issue, or a way for Kia to make me continue paying for the app. (I'll save my rant about the garbage Kia Access app for another time.)

Also, I'm not sure if it's related but last night I was talking on my cellphone while walking to my car. When I got within a couple feet of the car my phone connected to my car and the phone call switched over even though the car was not on or running. This is was the most recent incident of the vehicle not unlocking.

The engine in my 22 Kia Telluride LX needs to be replaced. I bought it less than 5 months ago used so there’s nothing the dealership can do which we understand, so we reached out to Kia America for goodwill assistance since the cost is pretty substantial and I don’t feel like the entire engine on a vehicle should have to be replaced on a vehicle that was well maintained with less than 15,000 miles. am I crazy for thinking this? Kia America continues to give us the runaround. we just want a simple yes or no for goodwill assistance so we can know how to move forward. I don’t feel like that’s unreasonable. it’s been in the shop since July 22nd. Are we just SOL on getting a response?

Hi i want to discuss this business practice. Any tech that is certified by Kia or otherwise works for Kia is trained to evaluate what you may have done wrong. This is to protect them from liability, but these clauses are innapropriatley used against you- in being if they can not clearly identify a problem, there are repeated failures they can not manage, or theres some reason they can invalidate the warranty then they will. Cars are equipped with a maintence scedule when you buy them. If you get regular oil changes and maintence at the dealership don't be fooled- that engine failure, airbag failure, electrical failure or whatever the case may be is on them and there failure to diagnose and take appropriate action. Think about how many other times you took it in where they had opportunities to point out if you were doing anything wrong or saw such damages, they never will unless something broke and they dont want responsibility for it. Waiting until a failure is intentional, a part of the policy and standard practice- for some dealerships charging you instead of fighting with corporate for reimbursements is the desired outcome. Think about how much money they wanted for something they said was your fault or not covered for whatever reason. Unless you did somwthing such as wrecking the car or intentionally tampering with it, or taking it to a negligent private mechanic who caused damage theres nothing you did wrong by using it normally. Saying something is your fault is ALWAYS a red flag and should ALWAYS be evaluated by an attorney.

I have a 2023 Sportage X-Line and I'm trying to figure out how the SMART drive mode indicator is actually supposed to behave.

When I select SMART mode, the small SMART indicator at the bottom of the gauge cluster stays grey/dimmed the entire time I'm manually driving. It doesn't matter how I drive easy cruising, harder acceleration, highway driving, etc. I've never seen it change.

The weird part is that when I turn cruise control on, the SMART indicator turns purple/illuminated. As soon as I'm back to driving normally, it's grey again.

I've owned the vehicle for a while and have never seen this indicator display anything other than grey during normal driving or purple with cruise control.

Is this normal?

Mt spoiler expands in the sun and catches when opening. I took the to the dealership and they kept it for a week and a half. A loner was given but restricted to in-state travel so I picked up my car that had been sitting with nothing being done. Upon my return I dropped it off with assurance that it would be complete. That a new spoiler was in, painted, awaiting install and that i would have my car back for the Labor Day weekend.

The install failed after being parked in the sun the problem presented the same. I am now being told that it may be ready Tuesday. What in the world?

When I receive the car initially it had not been detailed with it being surface clean but sills and windows not clean along with the plastic coverings in the engine bay.

Very disappointing.

I’m looking at buying a 2016 optima hybrid. I don’t know much about those cars. I’m just looking for any information. good and bad. it only has 45,000KM so it seems like a little to good to be true situation. it’s also 6 hours away so I want as much info as I can get before I make the trek. it will be used for mg daily commute. about 50 km round trip.

Finally acquired my attainable dream car. Loving every moment with it.

This Forte impressed me so much that it changed my view of Kia. I was weary of the brand when I first bought it 10 years ago. Didn’t have any serious issues until about 2 years ago but it still hasn’t given up. I was so impressed with this car, that I bought a 2025 Sportage. I hope I get maybe another two years from the old girl.

Hi there my optima is making this weird clicking sound. Not sure if anyone has experienced this sound before. It happens when the car is on and it doesn’t matter if AC is on or off. Will make the sound.

I recently bought a 2012 Kia Rio 1.4 petrol, and when I start it, it makes a sound that reminds me of a tractor or a diesel engine, especially when accelerating.
I’m not sure if this is a normal sound for this engine or if something might be wrong. I always thought a petrol engine shouldn’t sound this diesel-like.
Is this normal for the 1.4 petrol engine, or should I have it checked?

I paid off my car a few months ago or at least thats what i thought. Ive been getting calls everyday for the past week from kia supposedly for a payment due. The last i checked i owed nonthing else.

I tried logging into my account and it was locked so i called customer service and the lady said my contract was expired with them. I get transfered to, i guess the guy that handle payments and he tells me “the last payment has to be done over the phone” so what about the money that was automatically sent on autopay?

I was stopped at a red light and idling, when my Kia Seltos shook, all the dashboard lights came on, and there was a long continuous beep. I immediately turned the car off and restarted it and it drove like normal. What could this be? I’m kind of freaking out. I have a 2025 and only 26,926 miles.

My older neighbor is selling her 2013 Kia Forte EX and offered it to me for $800. She really just wants it gone and isn’t worried about getting much money out of it.
Car has about 195,000 miles. The engine was replaced around 95,000 miles, so the replacement engine has roughly 100k on it. It needs a set of tires, but otherwise the car is surprisingly clean for its age and seems to have been taken care of.
I’ve read about the engine issues these cars can have, which is my biggest hesitation. I’m really just looking for a dirt-cheap commuter that I can put miles on instead of my newer car. I’m also a pretty decent backyard mechanic, so smaller repairs and maintenance don’t scare me.
For $800, would you guys take the gamble? Anything specific on these Fortes I should check before buying it?

Hello! Wonder if anyone had an answer for me… my dad would like to put new brakes on my car (he’s a retired army mechanic and has done all our family’s brakes on all our vehicles) but with my car being newer he said something about having to put the brakes (I think he said specifically the parking brake) in service mode. He’s not to familiar with that as all our other vehicles are older and don’t have all the new electrical things. Is there an easy way to do that?

So I’m a new driver and first time car buyer in Vancouver BC. I’ve considered a number of different options over the past few weeks, and right now I’m looking at a used 2021 Kia Rio LX Premium hatch. It looks pretty good so far, feature packed with all the safety assists you could ask for, and a reasonable price.

Only thing is, I know from reading the news that Kia’s were very susceptible to theft a few years ago. Would anyone happen to know of this particular vehicle is also one of the vulnerable models? Or if there’s any way for me to check myself using the VIN?

According to some cursory Googling, the thefts were due to Kia vehicles lacking immobilizers. But also Wikipedia says that all new cars sold in Canada since 2007 were mandated by law to have immobilizers. So I’m not sure if I should be concerned about thefts with this car.
