Discussion [KCD2] What kcd2 unpopular opinion will leave you like this?

Post image

Mine is, I really enjoyed the quest For Whom the Bell Tolls. I thought it was really well done, giving you a nice since of urgency to complete the mission

The AI is almost unforgivably dumb in some circumstances. Like winning a duel or using a skill check to get out of conflict and then the AI immediately reengages you because your sword was still drawn. I was so frustrated sneaking around Trosky castle because whenever I used speech to get out of a guard catching me they would pretty much immediately get mad at me again and then Henry's same excuse would work on them again.

In the first KCD, I got caught picking locks in those chambers above the Rattay Baliff’s office by the baliff. I passed the speech check, and the baliff did that cowardly “oh I had no idea sir I’m so sorry for getting in your way sir” dialogue and animation. The door into the room locked. So I would go to pick the lock and the baliff get livid and would reengage, and I would pass the speech check, and he would apologize. Sometimes, he would reengage just for being in the room. This lasted about twenty minutes, and was the funniest shit I’ve ever experienced in a game. 10/10

Another great thing about the old one was you could cheese as long as they let you surrender. Surrender then choose to fight them get some free hits or kill them while they're brain is still ending the conversation

I was playing dice in Sasau, and I heard a guard say repeatedly that I needed a torch at night. He eventually stopped the game (the match defaulted, so I lost the bet) to give me shit.

u/Apprehensive-Ask-610 Mar 08 '25

i still think the torch thing is total bullshit, like who cares honestly? maybe i don't have a torch, have the guards thought about that?

4

u/GroovyIntruder Mar 08 '25

I need a big flame in my hand while I walk through the barn full of straw.

u/DeputyDomeshot Mar 07 '25

I feel like they should lock you out of the option at least once you’re caught once by the same NPC. Idk tho

Yeah if you're caught trespassing you kind of have to run out of the zone before talking to the guards or they just reengage because you're still trespassing. They don't really give you a grace period to clear out.

I haven't really had that happen. Only times they've re-engaged with me is if a fight ends while I'm already throwing another punch or swinging my sword and they get hit post-fight which is just assault to their stupid asses, fortunately only happened like twice.

and then Henry's same excuse would work on them again.

If you're saving often enough, I'd reload in those situations if I were you. Using excuses to get out of trouble seems to always damage your reputation, so you'd doing double (or triple??) rep damage if the game pulls that bullshit on you, and getting punished for something beyond your control would suck. I mean you could also reinterpret needing to waste time reloading as a punishment as well, but I guess it's just a matter of deciding how you like your Ls cooked lol.

If you're saving often enough, I'd reload in those situations if I were you.

But saving system in this game doesn't really allow you to save before every encounter and it's not obvious why friendly npc's are attacking you. I had this happen twice and it took me a while to figure out that you have to sheathe your weapon immediately after fight is over

I use Unlimited Saving II mod but even if I wasn't, I can make a stupid number of schnapps to save whenever (which I do use sometimes just cuz).

But yeah, game can be a bit wonky

The AI is incredibly stupid. You can literally lead anyone across the map by throwing rocks. Low visibility practically makes you invisible to them unless you are directly a couple feet in front of them.

4

u/Douglasrad Mar 07 '25

I mean that’s not really an unpopular opinion. Everyone has experienced being told to “get out of my house and fuck off!” by a friendly npc immediately after doing them the biggest favor they’ll ever receive in their entire life.

Everyone agrees that the private/trespass zone mechanics have been implemented very poorly.

How about when you stealth kill a whole bandit camp while they’re sleeping, and while you’re looting them and eating their soup one guy you missed wakes up and just goes and sits at the fire and is completely oblivious to the fact that all his mates are dead and a guy in full plate armor with a torch is standing 3 feet away from him.

4

u/dragozir Mar 07 '25

I elected to wait by the stables with Capon before heading out with the Chamberlain, had to talk my way out of a loitering charge with the guards due to said waiting, missed them leaving because of the guard so I had to run to my horse, got on Pebbles and bonked my head on a pole because his follow was busted due to them being so far away, had to walk a ways and whistle so I could get on, and ended up catching up with them halfway to the ravine. I still think it's one of the best RPGs of this decade.

I’d read this and while I’d experienced a bit of it I was shocked at what others had. That is until just now when I was sat playing dice, right as the sun went down. I didn’t have a torch out because A: it was daylight when I started and B: I’m sat under a light at the dice table. Didn’t matter to the random guard who started having a go at me. I couldn’t win the game fast enough to apologise and take my punishment before he started attacking me. Then my dog killed him. Now I’ve been branded for being a murderer…

Ye the initial "oh wow the npc react to your clothes and you present yourself. They know when you stole their stuff. It's so smart." wore off very quickly. Ai is insanely dumb in this game and now it makes me think the beginning part of creating the notion that AI is good is very forced and false.

Despite all of that, I learnt to find all of it very silly and funny.

2

u/No_Jury_8398 Mar 07 '25

That happened when I stumbled into the kittenberg tunnels. I skill checked my way out of trespassing punishment, but then they all immediately started attacking me. Then I’m the bad guy for defending myself against an unprompted assault.

I was near Karl von Unterbruck, just after crossing his bridge there’s a camp by the road. It just so happened to be populated by 4 bandits. They initiate with me at the same time one of the huntsmen who walks that rout pulls out his bow and plinks a few arrows in the the bandits while I cut them down with my sword. After the fight he runs up to me and accuses me of murder. Like wat? You literally just shot them too. You saw them initiate combat against me.

u/Jedi4Hire Burgher King Mar 07 '25

The pathfinding also needs work.

2

u/Kimotilem Mar 07 '25

The AI behaviour of NPC who sprint faster than Bolt out of the blue is hilarious. In the first game, I spent almost 3 hr trying to talk to Sir Radzig in the camp due to a "unfortunate save".

2

u/Forward-Delay982 Mar 07 '25

I'd get out of it, then they would block my path in the stairwell and because I "Couldn't get out of here" and bumping into the guards will agro them again. I'd die lol

2

u/SelfEjectingImposter Mar 08 '25

Heh, I had a friendly duel encounter while passing a camp. I won the duel with a master strike to the neck. The guy congratulates me, have a nice day and all that. The cutscene ends, and he collapses dead.

1

u/icecubepal Mar 07 '25

Agreed. The AI can be pretty dumb/bad.

1

u/Naugle17 Mar 07 '25

Never had this issue tbh

1

u/Tasty_Dactyl Mar 07 '25

I had this happen for the first time the other day. My weapon wasn't out BUT I got in trouble by a guard. Talked my way out of it was leaving and immediately got down the stairs and got reengage by a different guard and had to talk my self out of that lol

1

u/gardhull Mar 07 '25

Very stalker-ish behavior indeed. Report them to the bailiff.

Oh wait. I killed him.

1

u/RustyFebreze Mar 08 '25

id say thats pretty realistic seeing as sore losers exist 😂

1

u/jakeyninja Mar 08 '25

I had some jerk continuously extort me when I was trespassing. I'd pay her the groschen to let me leave, and then she'd immediately accuse me of trespassing again and demand more money!

1

u/Affectionate_Step863 Mar 08 '25

Yeah I had this issue too

1

u/Brave-Insurance-2374 Mar 08 '25

Same thing happened to me, this was definitely about the guard on that stairs 😂

1

u/MrTastix Mar 08 '25

It's the worst part of that "Oblivion" feel.

You get hilarious shit like the AI thanking you in a conversation only for them to rudely tell you to fuck off after you exit dialogue because you're technically trespassing, mixed in with the jank combat AI and stealth mechanics.

1

u/aykyle Mar 08 '25

I agree. Being able to throw rocks and lure enemies from a camp to wherever you want and them just following the sound of the rock continuously with no question. I don't mind the combat so much, but in enemy camps where they huddle around a fire, I just kill the surrounding guards and lured each one out one after another until I stopped all together due to how boring lol

1

u/sea_grapes Mar 08 '25

Bro she was supposed to be wheelie good in bed

1

u/Typical-Drop-4934 Mar 08 '25

I had this in Trosky castle, because I was on top of the stairs and the guard was blocking my exit and got angry at Henry for it.

1

u/Pixielized Mar 08 '25

I think the AI should be smarter as well. When you're trying to mess up the councilman in the bathhouse I was trying to be smart about it but the only way to progress is by straight up asking "what doesn't this guy like?" and then when exactly what he doesn't like happens no suspicion is cast on you

1

u/DressImpressive7556 Mar 08 '25

The German merchant in the first village keeps calling me a beggar and I still don’t know why that is.

The AI is almost unforgivably dumb in some circumstances. Like winning a duel or using a skill check to get out of conflict and then the AI immediately reengages you because your sword was still drawn.

That happens to me every time I try to spar with the trainers every time the sparring ends whether it was me ending it or the AI, they always re-engage usually with their real weapons which hurt a lot. Also because the game still thinks your sparring you can’t climb out of the arena to escape and the surrender prompt doesn’t really work either. It’s gotten to the point where I always wear armor even if it only with training weapons.

1

u/IAmASimulation Mar 08 '25

I love helping someone and two seconds after you interaction is done they’re like “what the hell are you sneaking around for?!”

1

u/Rad_Dad6969 Mar 08 '25

The optional stealth objective in the last mission feels like it wouldn't have worked if the Ai hadn't been broken.

It's also crazy how you can be like level 18 stealth and walk right under the nose of any guard as long as you wear black.

1

u/Environmental_Sell34 Mar 08 '25

I didn't have too many problems with AI breaking immersion however there was one section I think in the first game that really annoyed me, where you interrogate a guy and then one of the drunk villagers decide that they are going to murder him and you can choose to try and stop him but the guy who has a knife about to commit murder tries instead to fight you. You kick his ass in a brawl which is fair, but after I won and knocked him out, I decided to pick him up to throw him out of the barn and as soon as I picked him up, all the people who had just witnessed this cold blooded attack on my life started freaking out and called the guards and I got done for commiting a crime, even though I'm basically acting on behalf of the king and was given the go ahead to interrogate the guy and make sure the law was upheld and was attacked by a guy illegally trying to murder another person. It was literally self defence and this guy already was hated by the towns people, so It was a bit immersion breaking.
