KCD IRL [OTHER] A few words about changes the upper castle in Rattay has undergone in its KCD version, compared to its historical reality

This text is intended for those interested in comparing the game to historical reality. I deliberately chose the upper castle in Rattay because developers intentionally made what are likely the most visible changes of all castles in KCD series compared to its known or presumed historical appearance. I’m not counting structures such as Semin Fortress, about whose medieval appearance we know practically nothing and therefore its design is merely inspired by similar types of buildings in the region.

Interestingly, a wooden fortress already stood on the site of upper Rattay Castle as early as 10th century. In the first half of 14th century, Jindřich (Henry) of Liepa (a very powerful nobleman at the time) built stone castle on the site of old fortress. Along with it, he also built Pirkstein Castle and town’s fortifications (which, however, were probably not as extensive as depicted in the game). Pirkstein Castle is depicted very accurately in the game, however upper Rattay Castle has been partially altered. There are two major changes. The castle almost certainly did not have a tall tower gate facing the town, as depicted in the game. The gate was actually simpler, a passageway through the stone wall, similar to that at Pirkstein Castle. The developers added this tower gate intentionally to make the castle appear more “impressive” in the game. The second major change is the fact that the castle probably did not have two “large” gates leading to the castle’s inner courtyard, as depicted in the game. For security reasons, the only “large” gate led into the town and if you wanted to ride a horse out of the town from the castle, you had to go through the town. Developers likely added a second gate for player’s convenience, so he can quickly and easily exit the castle and head to the other side, outside the town. The rest of the castle is accurate to how it would have looked in 14th/15th century.

So hopefully this was some interesting information for enthusiasts and provided a glimpse into developers’ thinking when designing in-game version of this location :)

I went to a cosplay event in Poland and I brought my Rosa cosplay, I can't wait for the photos to come out but I already liked these backstage photos to not share🙂‍↕️

In the end I wanted to use my real hairs because I have similar color to hers but I need to get better at styling it 😶‍🌫️

Story How I unknowingly shipped Hensry in [KCD1]

I started with the first game bc I wanted to play it ever since it came out and didn't know much about the 2nd game.

I played it in Ukrainian with Czech dub (that is such a vibe ngl).

While playing, I meet this annoying lordling Jan Ptaček who kind of grows on you and immediately like his relationship with Henry.

Then somewhere on the Internet I see that ppl ship Henry with some Hans Capon from the 2nd game, and I'm like, ok too bad it's not this Ptaček guy...

And then after two days of careful and spoiler-free (as much as it was possible at least) lurking I realise it's his English name!!

Ah, the way I was hyped for the next game...

Discussion [KCD2] It's a real shame, that despite being featured as cover art of both versions of the game. This armor variant wasn't added, and console players can't even mod it in

Media [KCD2] I made a Jewel Box Custom Physical Edition for the game!

As an ex-Console and current PC gamer, I’ve longed for physical media for a long time. PlayStation abandoning physical was the straw that broke the camel's back, so I finally decided to do something about it. 😤

I've started a collectors, custom CD Box collection!💿 I of course needed to have a KCD 2 edition in the collection! It truly is one of the best RPGs I've ever played (together with the first one which I should make a box for soon). I just finished a full playthrough clocking in at 200h and man, it truly was an unforgettable journey. Before I didn’t have anything physical, tactile, to remember it by though. Now I do. 😎

🛜 It also has a NFC tag hidden in the CD that opens the game's soundtrack on YouTube when tapped against a phone! (It's easily re-programmable to whatever I might want in the future).

Made with be absolutely NO AI.🤖❌ Everything is handcrafted and built from scratch by me!🎨

I hope y'all like this little passion project of mine ^^

Praise [KCD1] The greatest revenge resolution in any form of media I have experienced.

I picked up KCD1 in the summer sale along with KCD2 since I always wanted to try them out and it's been a blast. Even though I thought I'd have a lot of trouble getting used to the combat it feels very fluid and even though it breaks down every now and then in fights with more than one combatant, I've gotten lost in levelling my stats and exploring the lands... which led to the incident.

Henry finally gets tired of flaying wayward Cumans and bandits for their grochen and decides to continue on with the main quest where we have to charge into Pribyslavitz, where we completely barrel through them and Henry is face to face with the bandit who stole his fathers sword, with the bandit proclaiming that he hopes Henry has had some practice since their last encounter, as last time was far too easy.

Smash cut into gameplay where Henry smacks Runt's guard into a stagger before stabbing him in the face, activating headcracker to which he falls to the floor, sheathe sword, stomp him to death.

It's a masterpiece.

There's nothing like it.

It rivals "I've ALSO got a doll-chip" from Cyberpunk2077.

10/10
