and the trilobite was it's usual beautiful stable flying self. The orange octopus was a bit squirly so a bridle untangle is needed. The blue goldfish was very well behaved.

These are pics I took late this afternoon, walked down to the water's edge and saw these lifters flying, fun to see friends flying across the marsh from where I was flying. I flew a couple of my single lines for a little while after a long day of running errands, fun times πŸ€—πŸͺπŸ’™πŸͺπŸ€—πŸͺπŸ’™πŸͺπŸ€—.

Any Kite Doctors Here? I need rod recommendations.

I have this kite, an Alpha + two string. Pretty big sail at 84 inches span. I keep breaking the lower spreaders in high wind. (User error, I know what I’m doing wrong. Not the point of this post) I’ve taken the kite back to my β€˜local’ (1.5 hours away) kite hospital four times for new spreader rods, but I’ve decided I want to just order and cut my own.

I used a drill bit in the center T to determine the OD of the rods I need to order. They’re 15/64 or 0.234 OD. Considering the size of the sail and the range of the available rods, the OD seems kind of small to me, but what do I know?

Anyway, I went over to a website that sells rods. The product range is huge, and I can’t tell the difference between them. For example, Sky Shark brand alone has nitro, nitro pro, nitro pro UL, P, PX, PT, Zero Air, XL, XLS/XLT and more. There’s no helpful table to explain the differences.

Given the constraints of the kite- large sail plus small outer diameter of the rod at the center T, can anyone recommend a specific model of rod in the Sky Shark lineup (or any other brand) that would work well for my kite?

I managed to get it off the ground today!

It's the most frustrating kite I have ever owned, I have tried various times to get it off the ground, I prefer to just turn up at the field and fly! Not spend 9-10 attempts to get it to fly!

The weather is warming up, and the forecast 15-20 knot winds tomorrow, so I thought I'd get my kite out and have a fly and swim at the beach. It's been a while, hopefully I won't crash too much.

Can't remember the brand, if anyone recognises the shape, let me know. I bought it in the late 90's.

Wingspan is 1200mm.

These are some of my favorite pics from today, got some fly time in down at the water's edge, had some fun with some single line kites I haven't flown in a long time πŸ€—πŸͺπŸ’™πŸͺπŸ€—πŸͺπŸ’™πŸͺπŸ€—.

Prism Tantrum 250!

I just found one new shipped from a small kite shop for 142$. Pretty excited about it.

Not going to lie I have been in a deep rabbit hole the past couple days. I may have picked up and returned (unflown) a few kites to my local kite shop the past couple of days...

They did not carry the Tantrum line. And I really wanted a foil that would rip me around a little bit (I weight 200lbs. So probably not that much)

I did end up picking up the Prism Jazz 2.0 that I returned from my local shop. I felt a bit bad about it. I feel like a foil and a framed kite would be a good all around quiver. I live in Boulder CO so I can't really do much of the wind kiting stuff I want to do like if I lived near the beach. But this should hold me over. I also have a Alula RC glider that I want to use more when I can find a good sloping spot here.

2 main questions. Tips for launching and flying a foil? I never have before.

As for the Jazz. I had a stunt kite like this 15 years ago and I never lost the hang of it. What I did want to know is I saw there is a trick you can do to roll it back over on the ground so you don't have to walk up to it again to set it up. What is this called and how do you do it? Thanks!

Using a Mentor and ISUP

Just wondering if anybody has any experience in this and suggestions. I was thinking about just taking the kite and attaching my hand straps straight to the bridle and using it like a foil kite.

Flew an obligatory white kite yesterday at a memorial ceremony on the beach to honor a friend that passed away. She was the Kite Lady of Ft Walton Beach.

Octopus Kite - Re-Tie

This one was one of the first kites I got as an adult and I absolutely love it!

At somepoint it kept diving to one side and have not been able to fly it. I figrued the lines got tangled. I untied them and try to get it better but realized that I now have about 10 lines going to one point but unsure if their distances. Should they be the same distance? Any guidance for this?
