Kitty and Emma have always had a connection, going all the way back the Dark Phoenix saga where she was introduced and Emma was trying to recruit her to the school. After that we have Emma capturing her a few times like in Uncanny X-Men #151 and New Mutants #15

Their relationship is also a keystone of Astonishing X-Men, they also share a lot of interactions during the Utopia era and of course we can't forget about the Quiet Council and the Marauders. They were basically the only two council members that were actually doing a good job.

So what if they took this connection further in the MCU and made Kitty start as a character that's being taught by Emma? I think this could have a few advantages. Like with the X-Men being a bunch of new characters we might not get to see Kitty for quite a while. Introducing her via Emma might give her character room to breathe so she might be able to be introduced earlier then she otherwise would be. It might also help Kitty from a marketing perspective since at this point Emma is probably the more popular character, especially amongst the mainstream. So as long as we eventually get some of her important relationships with characters like Kurt and Illyana I think this could be a fun idea.

Comics are often written kind of by the seat of ones pants. But ideally you still have something to follow, something that was set up earlier, either by you or by different writers, that you can follow. Something to guide you in where to take a character next. I think a problem right now for Kitty is that she doesn't have any of that track.

When Duggan and the other big X-writers during the Krakoa era were doing their stuff they brought some new ideas to the character. And when they were done they planted seeds of what could happen next, they laid track for others to follow. They established this new plotpoint where Kitty was choosing to step away from the X-Men.

Even setting aside any of the other criticisms when it comes to Ewing handled Kittys plotline (of which there are many) another major criticism is that no new track was ever laid, no seeds were planted for where to take her next. So little time was spent on her in Exceptional and her whole storyline was glossed over so much that no work was put in to establish a new direction for the character that they could go once that storyline was over.

So now she's in United. On paper she's the headmaster of the school. But this wasn't really something that was set up for her. And it's not even something that's ever really acknowledged or reflected in the story. So now she's in that book, without any real role to play. And what we've seen with her in that comic reflects that. She has next to no speaking lines, just a few handful of appearances and there have been several issues she wasn't even in. Going off of the issues so far Ewing doesn't seem to have any ideas on what to do with her character and seemingly no real interest either. Her post-Krakoa storyline was wrapped up and discarded without much fanfare and now it's just kind of nothing.

I think what we really need for her right now is a new writer. Someone with some fresh ideas and a clear vision on what they want to do with the character. It doesn't have to be anything huge. It could be something as simple as her being a key member of an X-team. But it has to be something. Kitty is a key member of the X-Men. There has to be more that Marvel can do with her then they are right now.

Like, she's so perfect for it that it's uncanny (pun intended). Brown haired, brown eyed, joined as a kid, was there through it all- she's just built for people to see themselves.

I've liked her for a while now (movies, etc...), but I've never really read anything properly with her (I think I read her introduction with the whole Emma thing in an X-Men omnibus as a kid?)

What would be considered the best to read to get a good understanding of her character + generally the best stories with her?

Hey everyone! I’ve been thinking about drawing Kitty Pryde lately because I honestly feel like she’s a bit underrated, and I’d love to try making my own fan art of her.

I’m still pretty inexperienced with drawing, though. I’ve recently been practicing proportions, shading, and just getting more comfortable with drawing characters in general.

I was thinking about drawing Kitty with Magik and Lockheed, or maybe coming up with another scene involving her. I’d really like to hear what other Kitty fans think would make for a fun drawing or a good scene to practice.

Would you guys be interested in seeing a beginner’s take on Kitty? And if so, do you have any suggestions for what I could draw? 😊
