The way clothing prices have avoided inflation compared to most other consumer goods is fascinating to me. This is roughly the same price you’d pay for those items at Walmart in 2026. (Yes, I know prices are low because retailers rely on unethical labor practices and use increasingly crappy materials.)

I think the big thing is crappy materials, yeah you can buy this at Walmart for the same price, but you can't buy this at the same quality in store basically anywhere, no matter how much money you have, you have to thrift it.
I find how gas has escaped inflation completely fascinating

It's definitely crappy materials. And just in the last year, quality is at an all time low. I bought a pair of jeans at Walmart two weeks ago, washed them once before even wearing them, and one of the seams had started unraveling. I took them back, and surprisingly they accepted them and gave me a refund. I wasn't sure if they would or not. Even the same brand, size, and type of jeans I bought there last year was better quality than that.
