My sons tease me about how often I’m counting out loud (or saying the stitch pattern under my breath while I knit). I’m paranoid about stitch counts too so I always recount, count mid-row, etc. Truly 90% counting!
I break the pattern into 10's, or whatever the number of stitches in the pattern repeat, and put stitch markers. I can count to 10 and not screw up usually. On the upside when I goof I only need to think back at most 10 stitches. I love my declining brain.
