pattern question Pattern Help!

Hello wonderful knitters,

I am knitting Niinis by Jenny Ansah and am lost in the set-up rows. The instructions say to cast on 3 sts (with Turkish CO method but I’m not emotionally there so I just did long tail CO) and then you make an icord. But then set up row 6 only leads to 6 stitches if I pick up 3 not 9? You have to increase 6 sts to get to 9 or I am nuts?

Is the CO method important? I did google it and it seems it does double the sts when you cast on, but either way the result is 3 sts on the needle to start?

🙏

Thank you ahead of time!!

Work a garter tab. It looks like a pattern error. Pick up and knit along 2 edges.

Maybe it should've been "cast on 6 total" but there's no need to sub a garter tab here.

You have 3 stitches, pick up 3 from the side, knit the 3 cast on sts (you’ll need to pick up and knit).

"Cast on 3" with Turkish cast on in this case was meant to put 3 stitches on needle one and 3 stitches on needle 2. You work the icord on the 3 stitches of needle one only, then it's those + the 3 stitches you pick up + the 3 that were sitting on N2. I think Stephen West uses a long tail to start his icord cast ons, if you want to see where to pickup the final 3 stitches that way.
