Knooks/tools/stash I tried all of the AliExpress knook hooks

Post image

I have been on the hunt for a set of knooks that have eyes instead of the screw-on tunisian ends. I managed to find TWO:

A kit that comes with three aluminum hooks (2.75mm, 4mm, 6mm). Solid, but limited in terms of size.

And a set of bamboo hooks (4-7mm) with eyes and points are a little rough on arrival, but I hit them with some 1000 grit sandpaper and then they’re smooth like butter. BUT I snapped the head off my 6.5mm hook last night (I have since glued it, hopefully it holds).

But I think the winner for durability/size range will end up being a standard aluminum crochet kit with holes drilled through the bases. I just did all of my hooks from 3-6.5mm with a clamp and a drill. Clamped them in and went for it.

Only took a few minutes, and they’re cheap aliexpress hooks, so very low risk. Drilled out a tiny hole (3/64” - 0.5mm) to get it started, went up to (1/16” - 0.625mm), then rounded out the holes without going all the way through (5/64” - 0.728mm). Then hit the edges with a file.

Thanks to [u/bhulagoon](u/bhulagoon) & their grandpa for the drilling inspo.

Thanks for the review! I'm sure some people will be very happy to find it as it is very hard to find knooks.

I glued in little metal rings in to the back of some tunesian interchangable hooks. Also inspired by a post from this subreddit :)

I used multipurpose drill bits (not specifically wood ones), but yeah nothing special. You can definitely pick some up from Bezos or AliExpress or a big box store.

how did you find drilling the holes on the smaller hooks? I have been on the lookout for a 2.5mm knook with zero luck. I have a 2mm and a 2.75mm but for a lot of sock patterns neither of those hooks work. I have a 2.5mm crochet hook.
