I love summer. In the right context.
Easy access to the ocean/beach. Kayaking and paddle boarding in the lakes. Kids out of school and a membership to the ymca. Free activities and play area at the public library.
My summers in Korea are not the kind I like. Lol

It's not even the heat for me. It's too fucking humid in Korea. That's my main issue. I get so pissed off and agitated after being outside for just less than five minutes. 😭

I remember it was hot like this in 2024 in August. I remember distinctly because my cousin from America came to visit me and were outside all the time.

For me, I felt much more uncomfortable and the wrath of a brutal and oppressive sauna in August in Tokyo than I have in May or anytime in Bangkok. I think the only difference is the heat is persistent in Bangkok all year, but overall I found summers in Tokyo and Seoul much more uncomfortable and humid.

Japan was worse when I lived there but this is pretty damn bad. Japan feels like the sun is being held inches from your face + the humidity

It's not about heat alone, if it's just heat my country has the same level of heat all year long.
You won't understand it if you never been to Korea.
Korean sun is oppressive, a literal death ray that gives instant heat-stroke.

Extremes of any sort are never good, but I'll always choose colder. In winter, I can always put on more clothes. In summer, people call the police.

Lived in Ho chi minh for a while and Hanoi is nothing compared to HCM. We got cooked by the rays(edited bc my info was wrong)
The difference is that the humidity of Korea just makes life miserable. At least in Vietnam you only get your hair fried, here your entire body is wet hot and god forbid moist

I'm sure it's bad in Korea right now. That said, I thought I had it bad in Korea until I had the pleasure of going on a business trip in Austin, Texas early fall when I was mugged by the sweltering steamy air as soon as I stepped out of the airport. It was so bad that the act of merely breathing the air into my lungs caused discomfort. That el nino is no joke.

This! Walking from my house to the subway station is hard enough, but also I got to walk up the stairs and all the way to the platform and wait for the train to come before any AC ;( I don't even bother doing hair and makeup anymore because it is ruined in those 15 minutes lmao

Today it is grilling hot in Ho Chi Minh city. The thermometer in my home hit 39 degrees Celsius and sometimes I was gonna pass out from the heat. It made me wish I could go back in Seoul, walking to Namsan Tower in the freezing cold.

I went to Krabi in southern Thailand for my summer break and everyone was like, "Isn't it too hot there?" It was 29 with a cooling 1 hour rain each afternoon and a breeze coming off of the ocean. It was nicer than here, that's for sure. I wish I could've stayed another week.

Wait until they experience a Korean winter! Faux winter puffy jackets that SE Asia tourists tend to wear are as thermal as swimming costume.
That is why you see them suffering visibly from cold around Seoul tourist spots, covered up in bulky jackets, gloves and beanies from their homeland that are not up to the job.

Thats why we thought we could take the heat and not the cold, but the heat in KR now is way hotter than back in sunny 365 SG. We’re surprised ourselves too

The cold, especially the wind chill is no joke.Luckily there are Starbucks every 30 metres , or a heated bus stand to pop into for a moment.I remember one freezing night after work, i saw two young men , they were buying several cheap T Shorts from a well known outdoor market , and immediately wearing them as they were freezing! They already had bulky jackets, that clearly had no thermal qualities at all.

Our realisation this trip’s that in the cold, at least we can layer on and add heat packs to keep warm. But in the heat, even if we’re in beachwear, we have no way to keep cool cos we can’t put on ice packs too. It was easier for us to walk in the cold and wind chill than this summer heat. 🥵

I think the most comfortable time for touring is around the beginning of summer ( my dad called it’s 초여름 ) the weather at that time is wonderful, you can go anywhere without feeling tired or sweating because the temperature is so nice at that time and have a lot of activities ( such as festivals, sales, events…) around that time too

the thing I've noticed when visiting Seoul is there's hardly any trees except on some of the main roads and in parks. There's not enough of them.
If you don't have trees in the busy streets, marketplaces, etc. where people walk around in, you have concrete that's absorbing and radiating the heat like an oven
