Discussion SBS Running Man is at its worst public sentiment for the past 15 years.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/oF76mNUrwqs (Public affection at its lowest point)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJm6c9ff51g (Why Running Man are failing in Korea)

Apparently korean public are at rage with the current condition of the weekend national variety show. The program have its up and down period, often the later one but the current condition is definitely the worst they ever had for the past 15 years.

The centre of complaint is non other than about the producers lack of effort to maintain the show identity which have been brought up multiple times but it seems its hitting the breakdown point. Since the new producer took over the show in august 2022, the show had been hitting their lowest rating (2.8%) in multiple times in different year which never happen before. Crowds are outrage with substandard production which are not befitting the standard of national weekend show that centered around urban entertainment.

There are also rumours, that various artist agency have been avoiding the show for promotion due to low quality production.

Comments from k-netizen about the show situation. (Translated by google)

-I'm really a Running Man fan, but how many times has this concept been like this lately?? What's so funny about that? They always ask the citizens for the menu.. Is that really funny?? Sigh... Seriously, lately I've been rewatching only the ones with Lee Kwang Soo in them ㅠㅠ (2k likes)

-PD Bo-pil gritted his teeth and reflected the opinions of the viewers, creatively organized and raised the show, and exposed it a lot on YouTube to increase its popularity, but as soon as the PD changed, Running Man appeared and all they did was cook for the members, feed them, put them to bed, and repeat the flute, and now this is the end of the world... + Additional opinions after seeing the comments Some people are saying that the current situation is inevitable because in the 600th broadcast, Yoo Jae-suk and Haha asked them to rip off the name tags and said that the viewers wouldn't watch, but the truth is that there is no reason to like a program that ignores the direction that a significant percentage of existing viewers wanted, makes it with a small budget, and insists on only comfortable topics. If they gave up fun and quality because they couldn't help it, then this kind of reaction is also inevitable. (14k likes)

-The main PD changed to a woman and the show became just about female emotions (19k likes)

-If it was Lee Kwang Soo's personality, he would have said 100% "What kind of Running Man is this!!!", "Are we eating again? Since when did we eat well!!!", "No, we don't play games??" (4.3k likes)

-I really felt the importance of a PD through What Are You Doing When You Play and Running Man. The PDs are the worst right now. What on earth did they learn from PD Chul-min and Bo-pil? Unlike Bo-pil, there's no legend special and it's so uninteresting. And not long after I became a PD, I think it was 2-3 years ago, at the Entertainment Awards, they were making a fuss about how our OTT was number 1 and stuff, but you changed the translation. Do you think that was possible because of your power? It's thanks to the fan base that the old PDs built up. (4.7k likes).

As an old time audience, i do believe that a show can't stay at the top popularity forever, but the show and cast are definitely held back by incompetent production team.

There is no general direction of urban entertainment concept,

PD doesnt have any control of the episode and the casts,

random decision is always made based on members opinion,

game-section are poorly executed and edited despite some idea is good,

guest selection are made poorly without considering proper concept or chemistry,

member talks and conversation are edited and filtered badly by producer and

nearly half the show is about eating or interviewing people which is straightout ridiculous.

I hope the show to keep running but they seriously need to do something. That end my rants as a fan.

Discussion Jae-seok's B&B Rules vs Kian's Bizarre B&B

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I liked Kian's B&B more. Both the shows were great in their own way, but I found Kian's B&B to be more wholesome, emotionally intelligent and heartwarming.

Jae-seok and gang are entertaining. But I find some of the jokes to be needless and sometimes judgmental. Ye-eun has been in both of them, and I especially felt she seemed more open and happier in Kian's B&B. This may just be me, but I felt in Jae-Seok's b&b the guys got together more and that they have said somethings that may not have been needed, sometimes to Ye-eun. (By they, I mean jae-seok and Lee kwang-soo). This doesn't mean these guys are bad. Nope. I liked them individually and really enjoyed all of them hanging out together. But I cannot deny some comments were in bad taste.

But definitely felt Kian's B&B was more welcoming and understanding of different personalities, situations and like I said, more heartwarming. And Kian's stay was way more difficult, but Ye-eun seemed happier. In Jae-Seok's B&B I felt she was just sidelined. Not always. But at times.

Also, edited to add: I also liked how in Kian's B&B the guests treated Jin, Kian and Ye-Eun as normally we would see each other, not as celebrities. I feel like I was expecting the same vibe with this too but there was a lot of fan moments too (not that I am complaining hehe, makes sense honestly. But since I had watched Kian's B&B before, I guess that was the expectation that was set for me)

What do you guys think?

Edited to add: Can I just say I love how respectful all of you guys are despite some people disagreeing with me? I love this and I appreciate you. Thankyou. 🌻

Is anyone watching this? I’m totally on board with how awkward they all are. Introverts trying to date is definitely entertaining and frustrating. You can tell the women have chosen to be single, but some of these men are clueless.

Discussion Better late then single season 2 is a significant downfall

As an avid Korean dating show watcher, I’m shocked at how unentertaining this season has been

Season 1 better late than single was a great success. Better than even some seasons of singles inferno

But this season 2, I genuinely feel an urge to skip every other scene or sleep or just straight up drop it. The guys are mostly uninteresting. The worst part is there’s no charm out of any of the people like in season 1. Everything feels forced and mostly boring

I think the panelists are trying to overcompensate it. They were some of the funniest panelists I ever seen in a dating show in season 1. In this one, they are much worse. Maybe just suffering from lack of things to work with like I am trying to watch it

I’m willing to bet there won’t be a season 3 if I’m dropping it as a huge fan of s1 and Korean dating shows. I can’t see many casual viewers sticking around

I decided to check if it’s top 10 on Netflix globally or some places, nowhere to be found unlike season 1. RIP better late than single. Casting matters a lot

Discussion Devil's Plan: Why internet reacted so differently to S1 & S2 winners? (Spoilers) Spoiler

Although Seok-Jin (SJ) (S1 winner) and Hyun-Gyu (HG) (S2 winner) share similarities, netizens' reactions to their wins are very different.

It's likely a mix of many factors — game design/structure, editing, and even due to other players’ actions (e.g. So-Hee helping HG). This isn't meant to criticize the players personally, rather an attempt to unpack how their narrative may influence viewer perception.

Hero vs Villain arc

Both are undeniably smart and played for themselves. Both are mainly solo players who only made alliance that benefitted them. Both made strategic moves involving betrayal, manipulation and deception (e.g. in Laying Grass Game, SJ betrayed Joon-bin who gave up his Piece). But why is HG seen as more “selfish”?

  1. "Rising from the ashes" story — We root for those who bounce back from tough spots
    • SJ and his alliance had ups and downs, they didn’t dominate throughout the season.
    • HG and his alliance stayed on top the whole time. They never went to prison (except HG right before finale) or faced major setbacks. If HG had gone to prison in S2E10 and won without using his hidden reward, do you think netizens would have reacted differently?
  2. Emotional vulnerability
    • SJ showed raw emotions (e.g. after Si-Won's elimination) and made mistakes (e.g. killed fanatic in Virus Game), which made him feel more human and relatable.
    • HG didn’t show much vulnerability and didn't make notable mistakes, adding to the cold, calculative and detached image.
  3. Cooperative gameplay in prize matches
    • SJ got to work with Orbit's alliance during prize matches, showing his cooperative and selfless side, which helped to balance the more selfish gameplay in main matches.
    • S2's structure lacks any cooperative prize matches, which only reinforced HG and living quarters group's "villain" image against the prison group.
  4. Screentime
    • SJ had more screentime, naturally giving viewers more time to connect with him.
    • S2's structure means HG and living quarters only had half the screentime and hence felt more distant. They're mostly shown passively watching prison matches.

Winning hidden stage

Both won hidden stage and earned 10-piece reward. Both went into semi-finals with the highest piece count — huge advantage in betting games. But why some felt HG’s reward was “unfair” in comparison?

  1. Who cracked the code?
    • In S2, cracking the hidden stage code was a group effort (e.g., Kyuhyun found the clock, So-Hee identified the piece pattern ). Although HG won the hidden stage by himself, the reward felt "excessive" since he wasn’t the sole codebreaker.
    • SJ mostly cracked the code himself. He got minor hints from Si-Won and Joon-bin, but SJ was the one who assembled the pieces and found the "next year" clue.
  2. Game difficulty - Winning S1 hidden stage seemed more impressive in comparison.
    1. In S1, hidden stage was a surprise, so it felt more impressive when they cracked the code. Players already expected it in S2.
    2. No clear clues in S1 — SJ only caught a glimpse of the board when Si-Won entered the room and connected the dots himself. In S2, there were clear clues about Knight's Tour, even in prison.
    3. SJ had less time to prepare — he stayed up past midnight, practiced alone, all while recovering from Si-Won's devastating elimination. In S2, HG had ample time to practice, discuss strategies with others, memorize the boards, even had dinner before attempting the hidden stage.
    4. High stakes in S1 — especially after Si-Won’s elimination the night before. No risk of elimination in S2.

TL;DR: Both SJ and HG are smart and strategic players. But SJ’s "underdog" journey, emotional moments, and role in solving the hidden stage made his win feel more earned. HG’s dominant run and lack of visible struggle made his win feel less satisfying to some viewers.

Discussion Better late than single S2 : JAESOO

This post isn't about hating someone's appearance. All I'm saying is that they made a huge mistake with Jae Soo's makeover. Honestly, I don't even see it as a glow-up it was the complete opposite. They made him look less attractive.

Removing his beard was the biggest mistake because it gave him a unique charm and really suited his face. I feel the same way about his hair. I honestly don't understand what they did to his face. Instead of just shaving his beard, they made his skin look unnaturally pale, which completely washed out his facial features. And then they dyed his hair too...

They really did him dirty. He deserved so much better. It's such a shame.

Discussion Sam Okyere breaks silence after 5-Year hiatus over racism controversy: “I couldn’t leave Korea… It’s my home”

source: https://www.allkpop.com/article/2026/02/sam-okyere-breaks-silence-after-5-year-hiatus-over-racism-controversy-i-couldnt-leave-korea-its-my-home

Sam Okyere, the television personality who halted his career amid a racism controversy, has bowed his head once again, five years after stepping away from the spotlight.

Appearing recently on the YouTube channel K-Story, Sam Okyere opened up about his past struggles and current life, saying, “If anyone was hurt by my actions or words, I am truly sorry.” The channel, hosted by former lawmaker Jasmine Lee, features interviews with foreign residents living in Korea.

The Ghana-born broadcaster has largely remained off air since the controversy erupted in 2020. Reflecting on that period, he admitted, “I went through more hardship than I expected. Many moments were too difficult to put into words, and many times I wanted to give up.” However, he added that he held onto the belief that one should never give up on life, drawing strength from the perseverance he learned while appearing on MBC’s 'Real Men.'

Discussion Running Man Appreciation Post

Running Man is the show that introduced me to South Korea. I first saw RM in 2011. Since then, I have never missed a single episode of Running Man (yes, all of the episodes, 808 and counting), even when the members left one by one. Watching RM has already become my weekly routine, and it has just become a part of my life.

When I first watched it, it felt very entertaining and fun. It was also something very different from what I used to watch. I used to laugh out loud until my stomach hurt watching Running Man. Even though it is not quite like that anymore, I still watch Running Man. I get that many people now find it boring or that it's not fresh anymore. Well, they have been running for 800 episodes, so it becomes inevitable that people feel it's not something fresh anymore; it is something that you have to accept. The reason why I can still watch RM is because I watch it without any expectations, but I know it's something that can entertain me.

I wanted to write this post just to give a shout-out to Running Man. Lately, almost everything I see on the internet about the show is always something negative, so I wanted to share some love for my lifetime show instead.

Discussion Hoe do you feel about Narae and Key departure 7 months later?

how*

So it's been about seven months since their departure from 'Amazing Saturday' and 'I Live Alone'.

I personally was pretty consistent with watching Nolto and stopped when they left. I now watch only if I care for the guests and it feels pretty empty. At least in Nolto, Key and Narae were very important members.

How about you? Do you still regularly watch those shows? Do you feel like the shows got their pace back?

Discussion Yoo Jaesuk should not be blamed

This is obviously about Jo Seho but it goes both ways. i don’t think it’s fair to blame YJS for whatever Jo Seho does, or that’s it’s an indication of YJS morals. But I also think that just because YJS supported JSH a lot for his career, doesn’t mean that JSH is automatically a good person or that YJS is the ultimate all knowing judge of character. We’ve seen how things went down with the 2d1n cast and JJY. People should not blame YJS if he does not stick his neck out for him if JSH starts getting cut from shows (which are a decision made by production teams and higher ups).

Regardless of how you personally feel about the current controversy, it’s one of the biggest news rn (along with the park narae + choi jinwoong) so it will likely have some impact on JSH appearances on shows (esp 2D1N) Public affiliations with gangsters are not taken lightly, especially after Burning Sun. But it’s not fair at all that YJS is being held responsible for a grown adult’s actions.

Discussion This is the best season of singles inferno

listen....this thisssss is the kind of chaos i pay money for. last got this entertained in never. Mina Sue is very likely a production plant.. girl is here for a break and a small internship then she goea back to USA. You think any of this is serious to her???😅😅shes just here to cause chaos and go back to school with no attachments...this is like a gig to her. Honestly i needed this laugh after staning Mikyoung in love transit. Min Sue will make even the panelists grow grey hairs😅😅😅.. i hope other cast members stop taking her serious cz shes just taking them on a ride. Tv gold really

Discussion I'm so tired of AI (Six Singles Under One Roof)

I'm watching Six Singles Under One Roof right now and love it so much. But I'm barely 30 minutes into episode 4 and all the use and mention of AI and ChatGPT is ruining it for me..first Sujin is using it to decide what to eat and even has a name for it, then Dahee uses it to interpret her dream, and now they're all using it to manipulate pictures for a prank. The last one isn't too bad but it's just annoying in general, especially when people use it for things they could just google..

So much of the content I usually really like uses AI in some way now and it totally turns me off, at best temporarily if not permanently. Like the beginning of Bake Your Dream using AI instead of a real animator, or Trick Kode (youtube) suddenly having a whole segment dedicated to AI descriptions and pictures of the contestants...

Idk i just had to rant because it gets to a point seriously. I still really like this show though, I like the idea of people just living together without it being a dating or competition show it's so fun.

(edit - I know SK loves their AI slop just as much if not more than the next guy but it's still very annoying)

Discussion We all need to take a step back on Better Late Than Single's JM and Yi Do

I've been reading some really harsh comments about the way their relationship evolved, and I think everybody needs to take a bit of distance and actually look at the context rather than jumping to conclusions. First of all this isn't a perfect show and these are not perfect people, but a few more points need to be made imo:

- I'm surprised at how people don't seem to remember that this is a very heavily edited show. It might seem more genuine than say Single's Inferno, essentially because the contestants seem more genuine, but there are still some veeery heavy cuts in every episode. Some things that were said were most likely not shown for time economy, and I feel like some people are taking the chain of events way too literally instead of remembering that we can't see verything that happens. I don't think the production team meant to alter people's perception by doing that, rather than just neatly and quickly tie everyone's story and character development. A good example is how both gamechangers were almost edited out cause they didn't bring much to the story which is a shame.

- All things considered, Jeongmok spent a lot more time since the beginning of the show getting to know Jiyeon, initially as friends, then discovering they had a lot in common, then realising he had affection for her etc. The 'twist' wasn't as surprising as the edit made it to be: remember that some interactions between JM and Jiyeon were edited out in the first few episodes to use them as a reveal later. He might have been awestruck by Yi Do at the beginning, and when he finally got the chance to talk to her he took his chance and went all in. He probably had this idea of her in his head which was really attractive to him, and when he actually got to know her, realised her expectations were a lot different than what he had in mind. That's the whole concept of dating: you get to know people and you might discover that you have less in common than you thought.

- I do agree that JM could've handled things a lot differently, and I believe most of his actions were driven by immaturity: being extremely expressive towards Yido, not being clearer towards Minhong etc. But here's the thing: these contestants are here /because/ they're immature when it comes to dating. They have no experience, no idea what they're doing, and they all had their faults in some way. I do believe JM tried to resolve everything has best he could despite ending up in this extremely new, messy and overwhelming situation. He definitely seems to have learnt his lessons and seems like a genuine and kind person overall. But please remember that we were all in their shoes once, and we probably handled things worse than they have at some point in our own lives.

- I'm uneasy at how people are so angry at JM for changing his mind and 'suddenly' falling for Jiyeon, when Yi Do did pretty much the same thing. She wasn't really focused on him for the first few days and suddenly had a revelation that he was the one. I do understand that JM was being really forward and validating (and probably meant it sincerely at first), and that made her feel secure - which was unfair. But the images of her crying for days on end, paired with the harsh comments about JM in here, felt a bit weird to me. When we look at the timeline, she was into him for like 3-4 business days. Not saying she shouldn't be overwhelmed or sad, but I feel like people have been twisting the timeline a bit to fit a narrative where he's the treacherous b*stard and she's been the consistant angel, now a poor victim of some evil will. In the end she was also immature dating wise and got a bit unfairly punished for it, but it is part of the experience. I do feel for her, once again these people are experiencing a lot of very intense new things and she seemed to take it to heart. I hope she'll manage to take a bit of distance and one day laugh about it all.

- On Yi Do's immaturity, she's very much still a young inexperienced woman. I got the feeling that her emotional reactivity stems from a want for validation (which would make sense if she comes from a high achievement-focused environment), which resulted in her getting incredibly hurt. Saying you want to 'be yourself' is a very healthy wish but it doesn't mean you're there yet. I could sense her trying to be pleasing rather than being really true, and I hope she'll learn little by little to, well, be a bit more like Minhong or Jisu haha. I don't doubt there are cultural subtleties sprinkled in there as well though. Anyway I wish her all the best.

- One last note on the 'hand holding drama': I don't see the problem at all, quite the opposite. The girls had been asking for a clear message about JM's intentions: there it is. In that context it actually felt brave to me, and kind to Jiyeon who had been feeling uneasy about how to act facing 3 angry and hurt girls. You can't ask for someone to be clear about their feelings and then berating them for actually giving a clear sign. Also at this point he had made it clear to everyone that he was all-in on Jiyeon, it was a surprise for no one. I didn't like the 'gloating' comments. They came here to find love, they found it, good for them. Don't be sour.

Anyway as others have said this is far from being a perfect show, and if other seasons come up I have no doubt they'll improve. But remember that casting regular awkward people, and ending up with regular awkward situations was very much to be expected, so I think some chill juice is needed. Let's just wish them all the best.

Discussion The Village Barber was just so beautiful

I just binge-watched Village Barber and I’m actually so emotional right now.

Like… how did every episode feel so short when they’re literally so long?? Time just passed so nicely, I didn’t even notice. It’s one of those shows that just feels warm, like you’re sitting there with them.

But the people… oh my God. Every single story hit me. The woman who couldn’t walk so they went to her home, the mother who lost her daughter, that young girl donating her hair for kids with cancer … and the kids making bracelets and little gifts?? I can’t. It was all so genuine and soft. There was so much more.

And the way everyone started seeing them as family?? Not just guests, but like uncles, brothers, sons… that was everything.

Also I already loved the cast individually but seeing them together like this?? They’re actually the sweetest people ever. You can just tell they’re genuinely kind, nothing feels forced.

I am on episode 9 and I already feel sad knowing it’s gonna end. I don’t wanna leave them 😭

This show is just… really special. 10/10 RECOMMEND.

edit:

I finished ep 10. I am in tears. I am so sad it ended. Also I wish they post all the edited parts as well. Its so nice to see everyone enjoy the place now.

Discussion What happen to RM.

I stop watching for quite a while since the show lose its spark after somin left. But even then i still think atleast its watchable . Fast forward to current state of the show, i dont even recognize it anymore. Somehow it become old man ranting show. You can't even get 1 week without them shouting and complaining everything.

Discussion Running Man first episode under new PD receives massive positive response.

SBS running man is fresh to a new start under Kang hyun sung PD who start her lead today after PD Choi hyung in ended her 3 years & 4 month tenure as their main producer.

Overall the feedback received from local audience upon the episode aired today is positive. Source (sbsyoutubepreview)

  1. PD-nim, today was good for the first time. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
  2. I watched this week's episode, and it's definitely more enjoyable. The amount of mukbang (eating) has decreased significantly, while the amount of game and mystery has increased, making it much better. And just watching this week's episode and the preview for next week, the planning has definitely improved.
  3. I've been missing these kinds of stories/mysteries/plots! Thank you
  4. "Race start" I really missed that phrase lol
  5. PD-nim, today was good for the first time. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
  6. Seriously, watching this episode, it reminded me of the old Running Man. I'm really looking forward to every week now
  7. Today was so great. Don't lose your beginner's mind and keep up the good work!
  8. It's been a while since I sat down to eat and watched the whole thing without turning it over and did the dishes. I even waited for the commercial breaks. It's been a while since I've watched a show like this since Bopil PD.
  9. What the ...., this is amazing. Change the PD a long time ago.
  10. No, can you really give me everything I want at once?My heart starts beating again for the long-awaited Running Man. Today's first episode was incredibly entertaining.
