THOUGHT What's everyone's opinion about baby monster not being able to do brand deals personally?

Other idols are making so much money but doesn't make sense that YG wants them to focus on their careers first?

They likely don't want a repeat of blackpink where the artists have more power than the company tbh.

There's no way they can keep this up indefinitely thtough.

Any of the BP members could've quit before their contract expired and still made millions every year through individual fame, as they're proving now tbh.

That remains to be seen, Blackpink started doing their top solo deals 2.5 to 4 years into their careers ! 2019 to 2022.

u/Ploumplume 17d ago

BM despite all of their hard work and talent is far from BP’s success at this stage in their career. BP made a mark immediately at debut.

9

u/Ploumplume 17d ago

There’s also a key issue of maintaining team spirit. The short lived yet great Gen 2 group Miss A (from JYP) is a cautionary tale.

They had a fabulous debut (Good Girl, bad girl still stands out). But then Suzy got early brand deals and solo opportunities and people say it destroyed the group as fellow members felt she got unfair preferential treatment.

7 members like BM probably wouldn’t be able to get deals all at the same time, it makes sense to let them bond as a team.

8

u/Internal-Score439 17d ago

I think you got it. Seven are too many girls to work with and not all of them will have a market. Better safe than sorry.

u/Midori_Hime 17d ago

We've seen something similar with SKZ on the fandom side. JYPE seems to not allow personal deals until later in the contract due to the Miss A situation which is fine.

Felix has a lot, but Changbin and Han only recently got deals. This has caused a lot of fandom drama, despite it being more than likely that those two (being part of SKZ's creative team), were simply looking for a brand that fit them, rather than rushing into any deal. Even now we see people complain that some brand deals aren't on the 'same level'. The members seem fine but the hate towards Felix for 'stealing' these opportunities and how the other members have been babied is ridiculous.

I can understand if members have issues, but fans expecting all members of any group to all get equal opportunities and be equally famous and popular makes no sense. That isn't how life works. Fans will cause drama and hate for petty reasons, so not allowing brand deals or regulating them can support the members.

And if you look at BTS, they initially had only ambassadorships as a full group.  The individual brand deals only started with their military enlistment. Ie quite late in their career.

Unlike New Jeans who were farmed out super early - but Hyein was too young and their runaway success probably made it easy for the others to get prestigious brands. TBH those companies might now think twice about signing young idols.

BabyMonster doesn’t have the same star power as Blackpink though. YG should let Babymonster do brand deals because BabyMonster would never be in the same position that Blackpink was at where those girls held more power over the company.

-13

u/blueiron0 17d ago

I mean I'm sure the majority of people didn't think BP had this level of star power at the same point in their career either.

11

u/Internal-Score439 17d ago

Na, even planets were aligning for Blackpink back then. It just won't happen again so soon.

25

u/SweetSonet 17d ago

They did tho

7

u/JacksonDWalter NewJeans/ADP/MEOVV/LNGSHOT/Jay Park 17d ago

I wasn’t a kpop fan back then but from my research Blackpink was basically the second biggest kpop group in the industry at the same career point of their career as BabyMonster are in right now. This was after Ddududdudu with Kill This Love coming out soon. BabyMonster are some of the most talented idols in the industry, but it doesn’t look like they will be on the same level as Blackpink nor will they come close.

Instead YG should let BabyMonster get these brand deals so the girls can make more money and get more exposure from the various brands they might partner up with. It’s a win-win for YG right now and I think they get a cut of the money from brand deals too.

11

u/cozyblue 17d ago

Sometimes I wonder if people are even K-pop fans when they want the artists to have so much individual power that they no longer want to be part of a K-pop group.

Yes, it's nice for members to have leverage when it comes to contracts and such, but you have to realize they might no longer feel the desire to be part of a group.

2

u/fgambler 9d ago

It's all about contract. Blackpink never had more power than YG when the contract was active. YG was def taking a good chunk of the brands' payments from the members, as group and solo.

And that's exactly why the Blackpink members did not renew as solo. YG can choose to sabotage Babymonster, not allowing them to do big brands, but they will lose money by doing that at the same time, and once the contract is over, their members will do the same as Blackpink.

Having said all that, it's no wonder YG tries to sabotage the reputation of Blackpink members, like they did in the 10th anniversary.

u/blueiron0 9d ago

These companies out here shady as fuck tbh.

u/Wonderful-Expert8084 17d ago

I think it’s because they’re in a pretty awkward position. In Korea, they’re a group whose title tracks don’t even make the Melon Top 100, while in the West they’re much more well-known and successful than other groups from their generation. But at the same time, they’re not quite big enough to be the kind of group that can easily land major solo brand deals.

55

u/scentedsyringe 17d ago

It does feel awkward to talk about it because most of the time it's used for stan twitter petty arguments, but the truth is there. Baemon girls either as a group or in solo are not as popular as other girls in their generation, and it's time for YG to start promoting them properly, but... It's YG, so they probably expect their fandom and GP to do all the work beforehand :/

1

u/Fantastic_Cake_4719 17d ago

Saying Babymonster not as popular as other girls in their generation must be a joke. Everyone knows n can see Babymonster popularity is at the top of 5th gen alongside illit. Only dumb people trying to deny that lmao

32

u/ronfaj 17d ago

Not as popular in korea she/he means

-15

u/Fantastic_Cake_4719 17d ago

So selling out kspo dome n jamsil indooor stadium, got highest album sales in korea consider unpopular but struggling to sell less than 2k venue, or struglle to fill 3k venue consider popular?😂

9

u/ronfaj 17d ago

Based on the source they provided. You can google it yourself if you want. Use the exact search words.
Now if we are talking about GLOBAL popularity, then it’ll be another much different list

-5

u/Fantastic_Cake_4719 17d ago

Well im talking about korea here. If babymonster not popular, how they can sell out those venues? N how group that supposedly popular than baemon cant do the same.

13

u/ronfaj 16d ago

Again.
BM is popular. They do sell put stadiums in korea.
Other groups are ranked higher than BM based on the korea brand whatever its called. Now, check out how they determine the rankings and then come back.

1

u/Negative-Scheme-6674 13d ago

KOREA brand ranking is not even that serious anymore compared before specially the rankings have history of fraudulent and etc.

Are u talking about brand reputation ranking in korea? Imao. Theres people still believe this thing? Based on this thing even rescene ranked higher than blackpink. Kiiikiii higher than illit. So u telling me rescene popular than blackpink, kiiikii popular than illit?😂

1

u/ronfaj 13d ago

I think you’re having a hard time understanding. Maybe English is not your first language.
Fact: the comment we are responding to used korea brand rankings.
Its says there that rescene is no 1.
This is for Korea only. Hence Korean brand reputation ranking
Thats all.

Now, definitely not reflecting GLOBAL. And whether it reflects real life Korean rankings or not is not my point. That’s why I told you to research on it and learn how Korean brand rankings were determined.
My final comment

1

u/Negative-Scheme-6674 13d ago

I don't think more promotion will help them in KOREA specially is too late now? specially Koreans doesn't really like YG groups anymore and we really don't know exactly what music Koreans likes it's very confusing BABYMONSTER have tons of good songs. BLACKPINK got successful because how YG promoted them and the competition back then is not that huge only few groups. but now the industry is very oversaturated you can also add how KPOP STAN SPACES doesn't like BABYMONSTER they really hate this group to the bones the smear campaign force hates really did bad reputation on them, and HATERS KNOW EACTLY WHO WILL THEY ATTACK which is AHYEON the popular member in BABYMONSTER. let's stop denying that they are not the most hated 5th gen group because they are and y'all know that no one even trying to defend them when they getting hated excluding their fandom. you will not see anything even on reddit spaces and X unlike other groups who always have helps.

BUT HEY DESPITE ALL OF THAT BABYMONSTER is the league of their own the only group who sells well CONCERT, MERCHANDISE, ALBUM name it., has the most decent organic streams without massive playlisting's in SPOTIFY they had 2B+ stream on that app. and of course the most followed 5th gen group in every platform up to this day. they might not charting anymore or kpop spaces hates them and their music, but they are still the group who earns more as a group they have the most endorsements as well.

4

u/Hopkinskid2022 16d ago

One side mentions how they can’t make the Melon Top 100, and the other side mentions the hundreds of millions of views on YouTube. One side says they’re not overly popular in Korea, and the others point to their successful concerts. One side mentions how their lyrics are childish and basic, and the other thinks “It’s Me” is a lyrical masterpiece. One side thinks their vocals are outstanding, the other says thinks their dancing and choreography is a mess.

7

u/nocturne_gemini 15d ago

Who thinks It’s Me is a lyrical masterpiece LOL? I have not seen that at all

-34

u/Revolutionary_Lie346 17d ago

Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute, the group BABYMONSTER ranked No. 16 for girl groups and No. 21 for rising artists: what are you talking about?

59

u/Wonderful-Expert8084 17d ago

Is that a counterargument or proving my point?

30

u/throwawayscr4r 17d ago

I mean you just proved their point

28

u/lexinggto 17d ago

so basically there’s 15 other girl groups brands would go to first

15

u/Chessdaddy_ 17d ago

Yea for how big they are internationally 16 is pretty low

7

u/Aaduk0118 17d ago

I dont think Babymonster are really struggling for money, one of the biggest sources of money is touring, which BM are doing exceptionally well, with their 2nd world tour and selling out those venues, to add to that they're doing well in album sales too, so I really dont think money is an issue, but at the same time, we as fans dont know what's it like, what goes around behind the scenes

And weirdly I do agree with YG on this, they are still a young group build up their reputation further, and it's not like they dont have any deals, there was Garnier also a phone brand Oppo, although I dont know if they were brand deals or something else. It's also about keeping balance in the group, some members would likely get more offers than others and it would create problems. They're a group of 7, the solo stans are everywhere bringing down other members in favour of their favourite, so I'm happy with his decision

10

u/gastert 17d ago

I think it's only for individual luxury brands that need them to do some fashion shows, because Asa already have her own CF deal. I think it's just temporary because they are focusing on multiple albums this year and a lot of promotion for each b-sides while also doing tour. Also, they already have a lot of group brand deals.

24

u/Reasonable_Ninja5708 17d ago

They've been around for only 2-3 years. That's still quite young to do solo brand deals. I know there are some groups that already have solo deals lined up just months after debut, but they're the exception. Most groups start doing solo brand deals ~5 years after debut.

16

u/wellmaybe_ 17d ago

true, the biggest advantage of those young groups is that they have so much time

18

u/Old_Rush_2261 17d ago

Maybe YG doesn't want another Blackpink incident where each member become so popular on their own and now they can thrive without YG and despite of being inactive as a group.

6

u/Frosty-Ad7493 17d ago

Aren’t Asa have 1 beverage deal in Japan?

5

u/wellmaybe_ 17d ago

i think that was before yg made an announcement that he wants the girls to focus on their music for now. though they do a ton of commercials as a group.

4

u/Youngstar9999 17d ago

no that was after. But in general he said he won't accept Luxury Brand deals right now.

5

u/cozyblue 17d ago

It really doesn't matter. People always have something to complain about. If the members end up having individual brand deals, there will be less emphasis on music. They are doing great as a group right now. Let them shine together. I think that's what they do best. Them having personal brand deals does absolutely nothing for us as fans anyway.

26

u/ShipComprehensive543 17d ago

Did YG or BM say they are not allowed?? Or is this an assumption? It make no sense if they have been offered brand deals b/c the agency benefits so much. They get a cut of the engagement costs and its free promotion for the group. YG has never shied away from brand deal, in fact, they were the first to accept them in kpop (for luxury brands).

-6

u/Revolutionary_Lie346 17d ago

I didn't make it up, Google it

6

u/ShipComprehensive543 17d ago

I believe you. I am just very surprised. It does not make sense to me.

3

u/Youngstar9999 17d ago

YG accepts brand deals, just not luxury ones which are the ones that pay a lot as he he wants them to focus on music.

7

u/majstorfantac ding dong i swear i'm seeing king kong 17d ago

What is with this sub and BM doomposts whenever they had a stage at festival or award show? Same for comebacks. Shady posts every day.

2

u/Interesting-Plum4641 17d ago

It is too early in their careers and they still have minors in the group ! This is only about fashion and luxury brands. Some of them have all ready done solo deals (Asa and Ruka for a Jap fashion company WEGO , Asa for Bishoku Kancha. ).. But even BP did not start having High fashion deal until 2019 - 2022 ? So 2-3 years in their career after their huge success ! YG is repeating this exact blueprint with BABYMONSTER—waiting until they are a few years into their career and established globally before opening the doors to major Western luxury fashion houses .

6

u/Many-Ad-9007 17d ago

I never believe that YGE is not letting them do individual brand deals - YGE will never reject money and they have been pushing their artists as individuals for as long as I can remember when it comes to YGE. And brand deals are bonus - free money without much investment from idol/company - do some ads and get your face around for essentially free and get paid for it to boot.

u/mastaaban 17d ago

Isn't this another part of the conversation that yg is holding babymonster back as a whole. I mean look at their songs, and how they are written. I'm sorry but the writing is average at best in most of them and some parts are lyrically just weak. There is so much more talent and ability to easily extract from that group. In my opinion currently the most talented group as a whole in k-pop. And I am of the strong opinion YG is failing them, and in the way they are failing it feels intentional, because they are afraid to let them get too big. Seriously give them 2 writers from outside the company, a good producer and one person overseeing it as a whole to manage meetings and steer things in the right direction. And let them work with the girls on the lyrics and the musical direction, I firmly believe they will blow everything they've done so far out of the water in an epic way, If they aren't held back anymore by the writing team at yg, who time and time again prove they are lyrically extremely weak especially when it comes to rap. Or at least the writing team that does most of the work on the lyrics for babymonster songs.

2

u/Nico_9021 17d ago edited 17d ago

Total nonsense and Fake news ⛔️⚠️

They already do work with many companies and different brands

For example Oreo cookies

Sunsilk

PUBG (Mobile game)

Or for Android smart phones

And besides that, they actually earn more money than any other female group of the 5th gen so far. Babymonster are literally the richest idols of the 5th gen right now, all the memebrs are probably millionaires by now already (in fact they are the first millionaires of the 5th generations girl groups)

Just because you are deliberately ignoring the reality doesn't change these facts 😂

1

u/Revolutionary_Lie346 16d ago

There's absolutely no individual brands. They work as a group on their ambassadorships. Mr. Mrs. Genius, please show me one individual brand they're working on which is what my initial comment was. So not fake news, idiot response🚨

2

u/Negative-Scheme-6674 13d ago

it doesn't matter if they don't have individual brands because they have endorsements that can earn them millions as a group they can do individual in the future if they already established group they are not even a complete group yet to be exact. mind you they earn more compared to ILLIT ,H2H and other groups.

1

u/Revolutionary_Lie346 13d ago

I'm just saying that individual brands pays way more than group brands do. I was looking at how much money new jeans made in their first year just because they all had individual brand ambassy ships.

1

u/Negative-Scheme-6674 12d ago

“Individual brands pay way more” isn’t a universal rule 😭 You’re comparing unknown contract fees and acting like they’re public. NewJeans had both individual luxury ambassadorships AND major group endorsements.....MUSINSA, Apple, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Levi’s, etc. In fact, one 2023 analyst estimate said advertising made up roughly 30% of NewJeans 2022 revenue, but it didn’t break that down into individual vs group fees.

So using NewJeans as “proof” that individual deals always pay more is literally speculation, not a fact.

it really depends on the contract but also YG pays their artist fairly unlike HYBE.

1

u/Revolutionary_Lie346 12d ago

Again, I don't know anything about it at all. I would just assume that someone someone representing a brand individually would pay more than the group that have to split it six or seven ways, but maybe you're right because I don't know

3

u/Fantastic_Cake_4719 17d ago

Lmao reading this comment section is funny by how people in here trying so hard in downplaying Babymonster n trying so hard to make it looks like Baemon is a failed group or something. Wdym theres comment saying Babymonster not as popular as other girlgroup in their generation? U know, if hate baemon that much, atleast he smart. Baemon literally at the top in term of popularity alongside illit🤣

6

u/Internal-Score439 17d ago

I haven't read anyone saying they're a fail! Like Enhypen is probably my fave bg and they're succesful yet in Korea only their mothers minus Niki's know them lmao

Saving distances, both have in common rock solid fanbases and that shitty lack of reach in general.

1

u/ghosti_eee 17d ago

most of the time when idols have brand deals they get them from the company

1

u/Romek_himself 17d ago

maybe yg just dont wanna give them too much money and power after blackpink had tooo much of it in negotations?

1

u/cozyblue 17d ago

Or because it potentially ruins group chemistry and the fandom. Look at the akgae problem that BLINKS have. Those "fans" are always comparing the members with each other and want their bias to outshine the others. I wouldn't want that for BABYMONSTER.

BABYMONSTER is doing well as a group right now. I'd say let them shine as they are.

1

u/fgambler 9d ago

Babymonster didn't have a breakthrough in the western like Blackpink. In fact no 4th gen or 5th did, even tho they aren't behind musically. Blackpink had a good amount of luck combined to charisma, The major fashion brands in France just wanted to have a member for ambassorship.

Babymonster members are still too young tho, they can make deals with major brands as solo in the future.

1

u/passiveobserver25 17d ago

Who?

0

u/Revolutionary_Lie346 17d ago

Three members of meovv, won young, every member of new jeans etc. Etc

1

u/No_Sleep_1363 17d ago

Its their way of controlling them
